1. Do you need support for Assetto Corsa Competizione? Please use the proper forum below and ALWAYS zip and attach the WHOLE "Logs" folder in your c:\users\*youruser*\AppData\Local\AC2\Saved. The "AppData" folder is hidden by default, check "Hidden items" in your Windows view properties. If you report a crash, ALWAYS zip and attach the WHOLE "Crashes" folder in the same directory. Do not post "I have the same issue" in an existing thread with a game crash, always open your own thread. Do not PM developers and staff members for personal troubleshooting and support.
  2. As part of our continuous maintenance and improvements to Assetto Corsa Competizione we will be releasing small updates on a regular basis during the esports season which might not go through the usual announcement process detailing the changes until a later version update where these changes will be listed retrospectively.
  3. If ACC doesn't start with an error or the executable is missing, please add your entire Steam directory to the exceptions in your antivirus software, run a Steam integrity check or reinstall the game altogether. Make sure you add the User/Documents/Assetto Corsa Competizione folder to your antivirus/Defender exceptions and exclude it from any file sharing app (GDrive, OneDrive or Dropbox)! The Corsair iCue software is also known to conflict with Input Device initialization, if the game does not start up and you have such devices, please try disabling the iCue software and try again. [file:unknown] [line: 95] secure crt: invalid error is a sign of antivirus interference, while [Pak chunk signing mismatch on chunk] indicates a corrupted installation that requires game file verification.
  4. When reporting an issue with saved games, please always zip and attach your entire User/Documents/Assetto Corsa Competizione/Savegame folder, along with the logs and the crash folder (when reporting related to a crash).

Generic Weekly Hotlap Challenge #124 – “A Long tail on a long track”

Discussion in 'Console Lounge' started by Totall Wrytoff, Apr 14, 2019.

  1. Welcome to the thread for the Weekly Hotlap Challenge #124 – “A Long tail on a long track” and the Third Round of our 3rd mini-series - Die Meisterschaft Deutschlands (The Championship of Germany)

    The Challenge:
    Hotlap
    Car: Porsche 962C Long tail
    Track: Nordschleife Endurance
    upload_2019-4-14_21-3-21.png
    upload_2019-4-14_21-3-32.png
It’s Easter holiday week so we’re going to have a big one – it’s a challenge with a capital “C” and also a Group C. It’s the turn of the so far overlooked Porsche 962C Long tail.

WHC veterans may remember Moodyryder’s “I am a legend” WHC#58 (Nov 26, 2017.) Thanks to him, this is a shameless plagiarisation of that excellent combi. It also gives me the chance to repost the link to an utterly fantastic bit of film he dug out for WHC#58.
Derek Bell drove the 962 to 21 victories between 1985 and 1987. He said at the time that it was "a fabulous car and it was really quite easy to drive….” Have a look at this to get you into the mood and perhaps give you a clue on gearbox set-up!

Group C was a category of motorsport, introduced by the FIA in 1982 for sports car racing. It signalled a change in philosophy. Instead of the more usual limits on engine capacity, the FIA placed limits on fuel consumption. Group C cars were limited to a minimum weight of 800 kg and a maximum fuel capacity of 100 litres. With competitors restricted to five refuelling stops within a 1000km distance, Group C sports cars were effectively allowed 600 litres per 1000 kilometers.

The 962 was an amazing car, dominating sports car racing for nearly two decades. It was innovative - it was Porsche's very first monocoque chassis, it introduced electronic engine management and it introduced ground effect downforce at higher speeds.
Porsche built 91 962s between 1984 and 1991. 16 were officially used by the factory team, while 75 were sold to customers. The car was powered by an air cooled, 2869cc, DOHC turbocharged flat-6, which produced between 650-680hp.

The cars that ran in the World Sports Car Championship were designated as 962C to separate them from the different spec US series versions. The name Long tail refers to the more slippery, low drag bodywork, so technically this is the Le Mans car. The Short tail body has higher downforce and was designed for shorter tracks.

The Nordshleife Endurance circuit, at over 25km, is the longest bit of road we have in AC. I like the way the new track allows you a bit of warm up before you get to the old circuit, but I don’t think you can drive the whole lap at 100%....

The recommended pressure for the Soft, Medium and Hard 80s Slicks is 30psi at the front and 32psi for the rears.

How to take part - Hot lap:
To enter, select Drive > Hotlap, choose the Porsche 962C Long tail and Nordschleife Endurance Circuit. Please setup the session as shown below:
    Mode: Hotlap
    Time of day: Free
    Ambient Temp: 26 Degrees
    Setup: Free
    Controller: Free
    Assists: Free
    Stability: Free

To qualify for WHC you must have the ambient temp set to 26 DegC.

    Deadline: Easter Sunday 21st April 2019 - 21:00 GMT.

You can run as many laps as you like and update your times as often as you like. It is all about taking part, testing yourself and enjoying Assetto Corsa. All Platforms are welcome.
To submit a time, pause the game and select 'session' from the menu and screenshot this page or take a photo of your screen and post it in this thread - Note all the information from the screen is required including temperature, mode heading and of course the car being used!
Please post video clips and share information in here as well, but without the session screen your time will not be included (placing the session screen in a video clip is acceptable).

Please use the following format to post your times:
Your time, to be shown as x.xx.xxx.
    Your platform (PC Xb1 PS4)
The image or screen shot showing your time.
    Your thoughts and comment

Please mark updated times with Improvement.

A leader board is collated regularly. Unfortunately editing of posts gets locked on this forum so this post cannot be updated.

    Weekly Hotlap Challenge Championship League

    How it works:
    1. Enter the Weekly Hotlap Challenge as posted every Sunday evening and you will be automatically entered into the league table.
    2. Your ranking in the final standings, posted on Sunday evening, will earn you points, as follows:
    Place Points: 1st 15 2nd 14 3rd 13 4th 12 5th 11 6th 10 7th 9 8th 8 9th 7 10th 66
    3. Every player taking part in a WHC, but finishing outside the top 10 will get 4 points.
    4. Every player who is in the table, (ie has entered a previous WHC) but does not play that week will get three points each week.
    5. Players that join WHC after WHC#114 will be awarded 3 points retrospectively for every WHC missed. For example, if you enter WHC for the first time at WHC#124, your name will be added to the table, with 27 points, plus whatever you score in WHC#124.
    6. Specialist Challenges will also feature throughout the season. These will be as monthly mini-series, for example Formula 1 February or Muscle Car Month, or nominated car types, for example the best driver in road cars. These events will be announced in the WHC Thread.

The updated Championship league table will be displayed in a new post in the Console Lounge each week.

At the end of the year, the WHC before Xmas week, the winners will be declared -
    * Championship podium
    * Specialist Challenge Winners
    * 1st place Contributor (the most Bonus points)
    * 1st place Loyal Lapper (who has entered most regularly, most often, if there is a draw, Bonus points count, then Champ points)

    Shakedown.
Its took me just under an hour to get round the lap successfully.:D
It's very difficult to keep it on the track in some places. I drove cautiously for this lap, just to get a benchmark down.

I had a few goes and I think it will take me 3 weeks to have a time down. I had to learn this track at some stage. The only thing is I have family visiting on Wednesday for 10 days so will eat like a king but very little racing. Great challenge

aaah...nords... and downforce - hope i have not to pay the damage i do to this car... emmm - or i try another challenge - this is my car, i am a gentleman driver and no(!) damage through the whole week and a decent lap time .... its worth a try!
@Totall Wrytoff - is it " Die Meisterschaft Deutschlands" or "Porsche Cup" ?? :D:D:D

    Great time Totall. Very impressive!!!
You’ve put my first attempt to shame
    By a full 30 seconds.
It’ll probably be next Easter when I manage to get a half decent time on this track.
    Love the car though.

  7. Haha, good point! When I first listed the combis for this mini-series, Mercedes and Audi were in, with the AMG GT3 down for the Nordschleife next week. But the 962 was also on the list of unused cars and compared the the AMG GT3, it was much more exciting, so I've switched.... The GT3 sounds great so I do want to run that soon, we've also got the Audi Quattro Sport, which drives really well and the Audi V10 R8, Porsche Boxters, Cayenne, Cayman GT4 and 918 Spyder.... So it certainly looks like a Porsche Cup at the moment, but provisionally, that is due to change next week. But we could have a quick poll... from the cars listed above, who would like to see what?:)

Really??? Thanks Lewis! A wow!:D For myself!
This was only the second lap I had got round in one piece, the first was disallowed because of half a tyre off the road somewhere. It was far from perfect and I drove round like tiptoeing on eggshells. Maybe that's the way to approach it!
I raised the ride height quite a bit, softened the springs, aero at 2, stiffer rear rebound and transmission had long 1st,2nd,3rd gears with top speed in 5th at 214mph.
Going to put the visor down, find my inner Derek Bell and have a proper go this afternoon, I'll post the set-up details once I've abandoned my work and fired up the console.

Yeah really mate!! It’s a Wow from me!!!
I’ve managed to knock some time off now,
8:30’s but I think out of 8 laps I’ve done only 1 has been ok with no faults.
The more cautious I am trying not to make a mistake the more mistakes I seem to make.
I just don’t know nords very well so the (stabilisers) green lines are out for the time being.

@Lewisxbone - nords is only bout investing a lot of time. you have to do hundreds of laps until you know this track. than you can attack the whole time.
there are too many tracks in ac to be an expert everywhere. ;)

found a way to bring the fun back for me:

try to act like an real driver - avoid crashes and be honest to myself doing this!

so - as in the past, starting with cold tyres (thats just for me, tyre blankets - emm... i think its smarter to use them....:p) - assists so realistic as possible. damage on, tyre wear on
little more tyre pressure, more aero, 30l, medium tyres, 90% turbo, arb softer front and rear.

    1. attempt - slightly into barriers after dunlop, light damage right front, too early too much pedal to the metal
    2. lap - clean 8:50
    3. attempt - killing the "pin" at yokohama-s, no damage, lap invalidated.
    4. lap - lost concentration at klostertal, left into barriers, medium damage, lap invalidated 8:44
    5. attempt - too early pedal to the metal after yokohama-s, only grass, lap invalidated, no damage.
    6. lap - 8.22

This is really challenging, thinking bout the money every crash would eat... so - i am back on fire. this is really good to be nervous around nords.
dunno if i can stand this, but thats my attempt to have more fun in WHC again! :)
