DIY conversion of a Gaming Chair into fixed rig ^^

Not sure if here is the right place to post this but I wanted to share you something I build to improve my racing experience with my existing equipment without spending tons of money.

Also I have not seen anything like it in the net so maybe someone might find it interesting.

Just a few words to my situation and why I wanted a change.

As my PC room is kinda limited in space I am racing in front of my desk instead of having a dedicated racing rig. To be honest I am also using my PC for different other things which require a desk and I don't want to have a second PC and monitor just for racing.

But racing with an office chair comes with some major downsides.

1. you have to block the wheels to not move backwards when braking
2. the damn thing is turning left and right which can be very distracting.
3. The stand is not the stiffest thing and it wobbles back and forth when you hit the breaks and release them again.

This brought me to the idea to build something that I can temporarily swing under my chair for racing sessions without demounting the original stand and makes the base much more stable and solid.

I measured the maximal high of my chair and build the new basemen slightly smaller.
That makes it easy to move the chair in the most upper position. To have it rock solid and fixed I only need to lower the chair which sits then on construction and does not move any more.

However there is some room for improvement but for the first approach I am quite happy with the result.

Cool, quick DIY. Wouldn't seem to work well though with a load cell. In my case, I used luggage belt straps to hold my chair from moving, esp. backwards, as I brake.

 

This is something I will hopefully be able to test with my planned wheel & pedal upgrade.
But yes, at the moment I only use the Logitech pedals with a stiffer brake spring.
Also having a wooden floor (and no carpet) might help as well and with the rubber pads under the chair legs it does not move at the moment.
Maybe with a load cell brake I need an additional U-shaped frame to connect the pedals with the seat.

Anyhow, this is by no means a replacement for a real racing rig and it looks not very elegant as well.
But it fits my needs for the moment, having to race from the desk and trying to drive as consistent as possible.

I use these, they work perfect. I also used bungie cords to stop rotation in the beginning, but realised if you are sitting correctly your chair won't turn anyway so I leave them off now.

I used something similiar before to block my chair wheels but for me it never worked out well.
Mostly because my chair has an aweful amount of flexibility in it's original stand (build quality?).
However the chair itself is very comfortable and I like it.

But it is nice to know that I am not the only one racing at the desk.
Thought you guys are all running fancy water cooled full motion rigs with bells and whistles

I found them in a street market (1 Euro). But they are probably on the internet

 

That's what I was going to say, connect the chair to the pedals. Even if you don't notice the chair moving it probably is moving slightly and I think that could lead to muscle cramps if you end up in a awkward position.

I had a similar setup but the brake force is what killed it every time. I used to use cut up yoga mats under the chair, they seem to get very stuck to flat surfaces.

 

Looks like you can find these kind of stoppers also in the Amazon.com store!
But quite expensive in my opinion.

I got myself two of these in a local home improvement store which worked quite well.
Don't ask me how these guys are named in english , but they are simple seals for waste water pipes that you should find in any store.
