1. Do you need support for Assetto Corsa Competizione? Please use the proper forum below and ALWAYS zip and attach the WHOLE "Logs" folder in your c:\users\*youruser*\AppData\Local\AC2\Saved. The "AppData" folder is hidden by default, check "Hidden items" in your Windows view properties. If you report a crash, ALWAYS zip and attach the WHOLE "Crashes" folder in the same directory. Do not post "I have the same issue" in an existing thread with a game crash, always open your own thread. Do not PM developers and staff members for personal troubleshooting and support.
  2. As part of our continuous maintenance and improvements to Assetto Corsa Competizione we will be releasing small updates on a regular basis during the esports season which might not go through the usual announcement process detailing the changes until a later version update where these changes will be listed retrospectively.
  3. If ACC doesn't start with an error or the executable is missing, please add your entire Steam directory to the exceptions in your antivirus software, run a Steam integrity check or reinstall the game altogether. Make sure you add the User/Documents/Assetto Corsa Competizione folder to your antivirus/Defender exceptions and exclude it from any file sharing app (GDrive, OneDrive or Dropbox)! The Corsair iCue software is also known to conflict with Input Device initialization, if the game does not start up and you have such devices, please try disabling the iCue software and try again. [file:unknown] [line: 95] secure crt: invalid error is a sign of antivirus interference, while [Pak chunk signing mismatch on chunk] indicates a corrupted installation that requires game file verification.
  4. When reporting an issue with saved games, please always zip and attach your entire User/Documents/Assetto Corsa Competizione/Savegame folder, along with the logs and the crash folder (when reporting related to a crash).

Generic Weekly Hotlap Challenge #132 – The first to hatch.

Discussion in 'Console Lounge' started by Totall Wrytoff, Jun 9, 2019.

  1. Welcome to the thread for the Weekly Hotlap Challenge #132 - "The first to hatch" and the Third Round of the mini-series, The Anglo-American Challenge.

    The Challenge:
    Hotlap
    Car: McLaren MP4 12C
    Track: Brands Hatch GP
    upload_2019-6-9_21-19-52.png
    upload_2019-6-9_21-20-2.png
After the collaboration with our best mates across the pond last week, we're back to Blighty for a full-English.
The McLaren MP4 12C. Brilliant. This is another car that we haven’t run before and a car that I’m delighted to propose.
Launched back in 2011, it was the first road car wholly designed and built by McLaren and their first production road car produced since the F1. But at the time, we really knew them as multiple F1 championship winners, so they had a lot to live up to and in my opinion, they really delivered. There were some niggles – the gearshift wasn’t the best, the electronic interface was poor and some said the car was a bit characterless, but absolutely no one said the view out wasn’t brilliant and it wasn’t absolutely the fastest thing they had ever driven. It pushed forward the boundaries of performance and usability and I bet quite a few whips were cracked at Maranello.
There are still very few machines that can live with the 12c along a country road. At the time nothing could touch it.
The chassis is a carbon tub, very special at the time and more importantly the 12c has an innovative hydraulic suspension system connected to all four corners, so no springs or ARB . It acts like a central damper, individually controlling each wheel, keeping the car flat, optimising the grip across all tyres but also giving a feel-some and supple ride.
It also has an epic motor, called the M838T. (Obviously when is comes to names McLaren prefers digits to letters.) This was based on an engine originally designed for Indycar, developed by McLaren and helped by none other than Ilmor and Ricardo. Once built, to test the engine, the team secretly bought a Ferrari 360 to use as the mule. I bet that’s still around in someone’s garage somewhere!

The M838T is dynamite. It is a 3.8 L twin-turbo V8 producing 616bhp at 7500 rpm and 443 lbf/ft (!) of torque at 5600 rpm. In a car that weighs just over 1400kg with a full tank. You get 80% torque available at just 2,000 rpm, so with TCS off it can be really wild. In fact journalists described the performance at the time as “shocking.”
    This is straight from Wikipedia:
“DragTimes.com posted a YouTube video of a stock McLaren 12C accelerating from 0 to 60 mph in 2.8 seconds and from 0 to 100 mph in 6.0 seconds and also recorded a 1/4mile of 10.27 seconds at 135 mph, the 3rd fastest verified time for a stock production car. The manufacturer has a claimed top speed of 207 mph but a top speed of 215 mph was achieved in the 12C Spider, which is 3 mph "slower" than the coupe. The Coupe, in reality, can do 218.61 mph and will slow from 120 mph to a complete stop in under 5 seconds, or 62 mph to zero in around seven car lengths.”
    That's eyeballs on the windscreen!

Brands Hatch GP is rightly up there with Zandvoort, Spa and Imola as one of the most popular circuits in WHC. It was last used in WHC#109 and no apologies for running it again. I did my first ever track day around the GP circuit, (I have a photo which I will publish if there is demand!) My father raced here in the sixties in his Mini Cooper 1275 and at one Sports Car Race meeting, against the powerful Jags, Ferraris, Fords and Porsches of the day, it started to rain, then poured. He won the race outright and got fastest time of the day. When I was little we had a big silver cup on the mantelpiece at home. I wish I had his talent! The Cup was stolen in a burglary in 1978.

Brands Hatch was originally the name of a grassy hollow on Brands Farm and the “circuit,” first used by cyclists, was formed from the tracks made by the tractors. Who needs Hermann Tilke when you have a Massey Ferguson?
The track is just brilliant – it runs through Kent woodland, it has good elevation changes, turns uphill and downhill and has several fast, blind-apex corners. It needs some learning and demands skill. It is also precisely what the McLaren MP4 12C was so exquisitely designed for. Let’s lay some rubber through Surtees!

Speaking of which, road tyres of course, the recommended pressures are Semislicks at 33 psi, or Street at 37 psi.

How to take part - Hot lap:
To enter, select Hotlap, choose the McLaren MP4 12C and Brands Hatch GP circuit. Please setup the session as shown below:
    Mode: Hotlap
    Time of day: Free
    Ambient Temp: 26 Degrees

A leader board is collated regularly. Unfortunately editing of posts gets locked on this forum so this post cannot be updated.Weekly Hotlap Challenge Championship League

    How it works:

    1. Enter the Weekly Hotlap Challenge as posted every Sunday evening and you will be automatically entered into the league table.
    2. Your ranking in the final standings, posted on Sunday evening, will earn you points, as follows:
    Place Points: 1st 15 2nd 14 3rd 13 4th 12 5th 11 6th 10 7th 9 8th 8 9th 7 10th 66
    3. Every player taking part in a WHC, but finishing outside the top 10 will get 4 points.
    4. Every player who is in the table, (ie has entered a previous WHC) but does not play that week will get three points each week.
    5. Players that join WHC after WHC#114 will be awarded 3 points retrospectively for every WHC missed. For example, if you enter WHC for the first time at WHC#124, your name will be added to the table, with 27 points, plus whatever you score in WHC#124.
    6. Specialist Challenges will also feature throughout the season. These will be as monthly mini-series, for example Formula 1 February or Muscle Car Month, or nominated car types, for example the best driver in road cars. These events will be announced in the WHC Thread.
The updated Championship league table will be displayed in a new post in the Console Lounge each week.
At the end of the year, the WHC before Xmas week, the winners will be declared -
    * Championship podium
    * Specialist Challenge Winners
    * 1st place Contributor (the most Bonus points)
    * 1st place Loyal Lapper (who has entered most regularly, most often, if there is a draw, Bonus points count, then Champ points)

Brilliant. Great story and of course I demand the picture. First time for me in Brands Hatch and looked forward to try. Had a first go and for sure TC for now and very technical track.

Quick warm up - a few laps to get a feel and sort the pressures. TC OFF is not too unmanageable, it gave me an instantly faster lap and makes the challenge much more involving.

Looks like I'm parked but this is hard on the brakes (fronts are disappearing into the arches) and I'm clenching-up going into paddock, in the hotted up Clio 16v.

Sorry I forgot the pic again but I do show the scoreboard and the setup and the end of the vid. I bastardized labbe's tune for silverstone which basically means I added a bunch of camber and toe, I also took out 1psi of the LF tire, and adjusted fuel.

I think the key to being quick in this car is to try not to let the tires spin. Its hard to be smooth in this car, on this track, without being able to soften the suspension. A patient right foot can compensate better for wheelspin than the tc imo it just takes a bit of finesse.

I love cars that are overpowered and undertired?! (is that a word?), and Brand hatch is always a fun track. I wish I could travel abroad to race on some of these tracks in real life. Pretty jealous @Totall Wrytoff that looks like so much fun! I think I'm gonna look into the pylon autocross league this summer and hopefully they have some events close to me. The closest real race track to me is 600km away  I often have dreams of winning the lottery and traveling to all the famous racetracks and renting a f1 car for the day! Then I would buy a place beside the Nurburgring and race my collection of cars there everyday. :)

I thought the only road course was near Edmonton Alberta. Which too far for me.
    http://www.castrolraceway.com/index.php?mo=pages&p_id=124

There used to be a track in Calgary and I actually took my 2001 Yamaha FZ1 (aka Fazer in Europe) on the last open track day before it was closed down. That is an amazing bike btw, I rode it 300km with saddle bags on it to the track, and rode it back home after the track day. I put some sticky tires on it and ended up grinding about an inch off the footpegs lol. Put both knees down for the first time, it was a great day. I still have the bike, but riding it on dead straight highways isn't very appealing anymore. I have to ride 50km one way to get to a road that has a few nice corners and its not a lot of corners lol. So it doesn't get ridden much anymore. I have tried going for group rides with a few Harley riders, but they seem more interested in posing with their bikes at the gas station than actually riding them. Probably because they're terrible bikes and overpriced to boot.

Anyways, as I was looking up the racetracks in Alberta to find out about the Southern Alberta Solosport Club, which is the club that does the timed solo runs around a course made of cones, usually on a airport runway or some other large expanse of pavement, and I ended up coming across this https://badlandsmotorsportsresort.com/product/reserve/

My dreams are coming true! I can't believe that they are planning to build a world class motorsport resort like this so (relatively close, 250 km) away. I will be doing a bunch of research on this today! WOW.
