1. Do you need support for Assetto Corsa Competizione? Please use the proper forum below and ALWAYS zip and attach the WHOLE "Logs" folder in your c:\users\*youruser*\AppData\Local\AC2\Saved. The "AppData" folder is hidden by default, check "Hidden items" in your Windows view properties. If you report a crash, ALWAYS zip and attach the WHOLE "Crashes" folder in the same directory. Do not post "I have the same issue" in an existing thread with a game crash, always open your own thread. Do not PM developers and staff members for personal troubleshooting and support.
  2. As part of our continuous maintenance and improvements to Assetto Corsa Competizione we will be releasing small updates on a regular basis during the esports season which might not go through the usual announcement process detailing the changes until a later version update where these changes will be listed retrospectively.
  3. If ACC doesn't start with an error or the executable is missing, please add your entire Steam directory to the exceptions in your antivirus software, run a Steam integrity check or reinstall the game altogether. Make sure you add the User/Documents/Assetto Corsa Competizione folder to your antivirus/Defender exceptions and exclude it from any file sharing app (GDrive, OneDrive or Dropbox)! The Corsair iCue software is also known to conflict with Input Device initialization, if the game does not start up and you have such devices, please try disabling the iCue software and try again. [file:unknown] [line: 95] secure crt: invalid error is a sign of antivirus interference, while [Pak chunk signing mismatch on chunk] indicates a corrupted installation that requires game file verification.
  4. When reporting an issue with saved games, please always zip and attach your entire User/Documents/Assetto Corsa Competizione/Savegame folder, along with the logs and the crash folder (when reporting related to a crash).

Generic Weekly Hotlap Challenge #136 – As quick as Quick Nick

Discussion in 'Console Lounge' started by Totall Wrytoff, Jul 7, 2019.

  1. Welcome to the thread for the Weekly Hotlap Challenge #136 – “As quick as Quick Nick.” It’s the second round of the four week Mini-series, “Convertibles.” It’s summer time, so it’s time to get the roof off.

    The Challenge: Hotlap
    Car: Ferrari F2004
    Track: Nordschleife Endurance Cup
    upload_2019-7-7_21-12-22.png
    upload_2019-7-7_21-12-37.png
Speed up your synapses, this week’s going to be a big one. We’re going to run the Ferrari F2004 around the Nordschleife Endurance Cup. It’s a track we have only used once, way back in WHC#27 and posted by the main man, Graveltrap.
We’ve also used the F2004 only once previously. It was April 2018 in Hugo C’s WHC#74 at the Nurburgring GP. The car is mega. Absolutely mega. Even on the compromised, grooved tyres. And you don’t have to press lots of buttons to get a good lap. Ok, he was a a driver in a league of his own, but just have a look at Michael Schumacher’s 2004 season results. Complete domination.
    upload_2019-7-7_21-13-0.png
There’s no doubt we’re going for records this week.
Obviously the first three things to say about records at the Nordschleife are – 1. Porsche 956, 2. Six minutes, eleven seconds and 3. Stefan Bellof. His lap in May 1983 was an incredible achievement and that lap will always be the record; six minutes eleven in that car was outstanding on every level. Stefan Bellof wears the crown for King of the ‘Ring.
However we’re using a different circuit and there has been an F1 car driven around this very layout. In April 2007, as I’m sure you know, “Quick” Nick Heidfeld did three laps of the Nordschleife Endurance Cup in the 2006 BMW Sauber F1. Scandalously, it was not at all quick. For “safety reasons,” BMW announced that the car was slowed with hard demonstration tires, run at maximum ride height and limited to only 170mph/ 275 kmh top speed. Also Heidfeld had to slow right down once each lap for a film camera car.
    upload_2019-7-7_21-13-28.png
BMW Sauber announced an official lap time of 8:34!
However, since the camera car was in a different sector for each lap, astute fans were able to estimate a lap time of around a 7 mins 28 secs.
Even more punchy, Road & Track magazine reported, around the old Nordschleife, Heidfeld's lap was about 5 mins 57 secs, breaking the track's six-minute barrier for the first time in history. It is very speculative, Road & Track measured the speed in some corners and then calculated the time. Also, according to F1 Racing magazine, BMW engineers had estimated the car could lap in under 5:16, an average of 147 mph (237 kmh.) It’s all a bit of a cop-out.

But we are not going to cop-out; we’re going to do it. Most definitely! At the very least, we’re going to try!
It’s madness, but not the horror you’ll be thinking it is. Even on lower downforce settings the car sticks to the road and, shall we say… allows you to test your bravery. To start with it will have so much more in it, on the way into, through and coming out of corners, than you can accept. Long moments pass in a blink.

Motorcycle racer Graham Crosby said, “the time you spend between the throttle and the brake is a waste of time.”
We are talking fleeting moments! The F2004 is ready for as fast as you can shrink those fleeting moments and it’s ready to do it even faster. It’s up to you, avoid the big kerbs, get onto the throttle early, push it and you can get on top of this epic circuit.

It starts with a gentle introduction around the smooth, wide corners of Nurburgring Sprint section, before you plunge away and down into the Green Hell, but think Heaven.

At first, it’s an eye-widening, vivid, shocking, flurry of apices, gears, brakes and throttle. The greenery is a blur to each side and the grey strip underneath you uncoils like a mesmerising snake. But you soon adjust. It’s a thrilling exercise in fast-forward. It is your impassionate, controlled, precise deployment of a yowling, screaming V10, with brakes like ship anchors on a short chain and an extra-sensory speed of response at your fingertips. You’ll get braver and braver. Where, at a corner a lap before, you were hard on the brakes and down into second, you now, carrying huge speed in fourth just lift slightly, turn in, nail the red-white flash of apex and be gone.
You’ll be trembling with adrenalin at the end of the lap…. You’ll pit, drop the aero and lengthen the transmission and have another go… because you know you can go quicker.

The tyres are Soft, Medium and Hard, grooved slicks, the recommended pressure for all types is 23psi.

I remember having to miss that week with long tail because of my family over. My goal was to learn the track as much as possible for the next time it happens. I did one lap and I still haven't a clue where am going.. anyway from what I understood about the car is I absolutely love it and I actually think it's probably one of the best car to learn the track. It brakes and grip so well. Great intro Totall Wrytoff.

    Diving in!
I did some practise runs (none without a crash) on the old circuit to get the basic settings. Then did a few laps on the Nurburgring GT Sprint to get those corners understood, then went and did this. A few times I could not believe I had kept it straight, a few times where I was cautious and quire a few times where I was massively reckless. But amazingly, it was a first lap, clean lap, and overall, oh yeah, it felt very, very fast.
Love Island is on, so I'm retreating to the cave to try again.

ET, you will have company in your initial misery...I've not a clue on the green monster but it's high time I learned it. I have taken the F2004 out for a spin and..well....yes...could be a few days before I am able to post a time and not for lack of trying! Looking forward to it.

ps - Unlike the Mazda, I'll not feel an ounce of sympathy for burning the rubber off this machine!

Back in the days when my team was good. And when the cars sounded good. Today? Not so much. Pretty sad seeing Verstappen finesse LeClerc that other race. And Hamilton still has a shot to have a similar line to what Schumacher had in that graphic. Total damn domination! Not looking much better in MotoGP land either with Ducati eating that Honda and Yamaha dust... haha

Anyway, this finally broke the stranglehold Crash Team Racing: Nitro-Fueled had on me. I ain't quite giving up CTR, but you all best know when the Nordschleife is on over here I'll be on too! And the F2004? Yes! THIS is one of the greatest representations, if not the greatest representation, of a race car I've seen in a sim-racing game. The F2004 is up there with the 312T as one of my favorite Nordschleife Hotlap Challenges as well.

Did a 6.32 on my first lap in two weeks, as well as a 6.18 on the third attempt and this time a few tries later. All the Nordschleife - Tourist experience paying dividends since that's usually all I play online! After that though I kept messing up from trying to push, not slowing enough, and understeering off into the grass, onto a curb, and sometimes into a railing. And not once did I drive through the banking of the Karussell since I'm a wuss.

And apologies @Totall Wrytoff for not being able to get back at your quote earlier. I think I only drove either variant of the Miata a handful of times since that previous 2017 challenge. And damn, that was the month I got my Fanatec setup together! Anyway, I seem to gravitate to purely faster or more symphonic machinery in games. And with reality I went from looking at Miatas in the classified many years ago to only looking at sportbikes that can do 160+ mph and breach our local freeway speed limits in just seconds. How times change! haha

This sort of challenge could end in divorce.

I've done three laps and already been yapped at.

Hopefully I might get another try before Sunday.

If not, here's the video. Plenty of obvious time to gain if only it was neat & tidy.

I had fuel use off, soft tyres and upped final drive one notch. Otherwise left alone.

I struggle with single seaters and generally use the roll bar camera.

@Lewisxbone - aero is F4 , R6, I think top gear is set for 220mph, I'm hitting 210ish mph and I increased bumpstop and packer for more suspension travel, all else I've left alone for nowo_O

I suppose any car can be frustrating on the green hell but this one is so twitchy, any mistake is instant death, (I almost wish I had an F1 wheel for the t500). I had so many restarts that I actually earned an achievement that I thought I'd never get. See if you can spot it in the video. I don't know who made the setup - I think I got it off of the setup market. Anyways, I adjusted psi, fuel, and the tc. The setup is at the end of the video.
Its quite a loose setup but it makes it more fun to drive and that's how I like it.

I think the best possible time will probably be done by someone who can do two laps in a row. The second lap will be quicker because the tires will be at the right temps at the beginning of the lap. My tires weren't up to the right temps forever. I might still want to drop the psi a bit, but its a balancing act of where on the track you want optimal traction, and then make sure the tires last the whole lap.
