1. Do you need support for Assetto Corsa Competizione? Please use the proper forum below and ALWAYS zip and attach the WHOLE "Logs" folder in your c:\users\*youruser*\AppData\Local\AC2\Saved. The "AppData" folder is hidden by default, check "Hidden items" in your Windows view properties. If you report a crash, ALWAYS zip and attach the WHOLE "Crashes" folder in the same directory. Do not post "I have the same issue" in an existing thread with a game crash, always open your own thread. Do not PM developers and staff members for personal troubleshooting and support.
  2. As part of our continuous maintenance and improvements to Assetto Corsa Competizione we will be releasing small updates on a regular basis during the esports season which might not go through the usual announcement process detailing the changes until a later version update where these changes will be listed retrospectively.
  3. If ACC doesn't start with an error or the executable is missing, please add your entire Steam directory to the exceptions in your antivirus software, run a Steam integrity check or reinstall the game altogether. Make sure you add the User/Documents/Assetto Corsa Competizione folder to your antivirus/Defender exceptions and exclude it from any file sharing app (GDrive, OneDrive or Dropbox)! The Corsair iCue software is also known to conflict with Input Device initialization, if the game does not start up and you have such devices, please try disabling the iCue software and try again. [file:unknown] [line: 95] secure crt: invalid error is a sign of antivirus interference, while [Pak chunk signing mismatch on chunk] indicates a corrupted installation that requires game file verification.
  4. When reporting an issue with saved games, please always zip and attach your entire User/Documents/Assetto Corsa Competizione/Savegame folder, along with the logs and the crash folder (when reporting related to a crash).

Generic Weekly Hotlap Challenge #138 – Along comes a Spyder

Discussion in 'Console Lounge' started by Totall Wrytoff, Jul 21, 2019.

  1. Welcome to the thread for the Weekly Hotlap Challenge #138 – “Along comes a Spyder.” It’s the final round of the “Convertibles” Mini-series. As it is summer time, you should watch out for the spyders.

    The Challenge: Hotlap
    Car: Porsche 918 Spyder
    Track: Monza 1966 Full Course

There will be no shortage of power this week. We are in Porsche's weapon, developed for a hypercar battle with their Italian and British rivals.

It was 2013 and it was petrol-head shock and awe! The leviathans of the supercar world treated us to the most awesome threesome! It was quite overwhelming. It was genius. The supercar manufacturers used ever increasing PC attitudes as an excuse and went head to head in a battle to produce the best/ fastest / most advanced, most super hybrid supercar. This is how to save the planet, supercar style! Pre-launch intrigue and excitement was too much, people went silly with comparisons. Ferrari, McLaren and Porsche in an all-out road battle! It had been so long since we’d had an occasion to pose man's primordial question – “which is fastest mate?”
All three manufacturers took very different approaches, each car is very different, but all are very, very lust-worthy. Quite understandably there were people that bought all three! Envy is a cardinal sin but, come on, in this case, it’s just a reasonable emotion!
When the trio were first revealed, I thought the Ferrari was a bit aloof, I wanted the McLaren P1 sooo badly. But oh my God, look (below) at what the Porsche does!!
    Look. at. that!
I was really torn – really, really torn – by these little pups... ones that spit blue flame from just behind your shoulder. By the entire universe, that is so very, very good!
And, it’s not just any old flame, this is not a bit of inefficient combustion, Macca. No, this is blow-torch grade flame, Bunsen burner-with-the-hole-open flame. This is the level of flame that obliterates normal metal. Yes, you can have that firing from your exhaust pipes, Sir.
    It is unimaginably cool.
    upload_2019-7-21_21-20-46.png
But incredibly, it actually gets better.
Shuffling around for images, I found something that I hadn’t even considered!
We are now travelling beyond unbearably cool and into the realms of personal fantasies being realised, for free, on a daily basis. The image below is not a piece of modern art… actually, it is! It's a photo taken by a surprised motorist on a motorway… Yes, Kleenex Man-size ready? It is the view of the back of a 918 Spyder - the red-hot motor flanked by jet-engine afterburners on full thrust. The thought of piloting a car doing this brings the hairs up on the back of my neck. This is why I want the Porsche Spyder. We should all have this!
    upload_2019-7-21_21-24-14.png
The Porsche 918 Spyder has a naturally aspirated, dry sumped 4.6 litre V8 that revs to 8500rpm and produces a comparatively modest 600bhp with drive sent to the rear wheels. The Spyder also has two electric motors, one on each axle, which adds drive to the font axle, more power and considerable, instant torque. The front axle motor disengages at speeds of over 130mph. So all up, there’s just under 600bhp from the combustion engine and around 290bhp from the electric motors. That makes for 890bhp and 950lbs/ft of torque, so even though the car weights a hefty 1650kg, those are numbers we really like!
Porsche produced a standard car and a variant called the “Weissach Package 918,” which I think is the one we have in the game. It’s 90kgs lighter than the standard, de-limited and comes with special paint jobs.
The car features two hybrid modes, Sport and Race and you have control over the amount of energy recovered/ battery recharged during braking. You'll need to have a play. There is also a push-to-pass button to deliver even more electrical power. I couldn't see much effect at higher speeds in a quick test, other than the battery bar emptying faster. Until things slow slightly in 5th, you're romping through the gears way too quickly to need it before then.
    upload_2019-7-21_21-30-18.png
We have used this track only once before, Moodyryder's WHC#57 with the Ferrari 312/67. It’s 10km all the way round so there’s plenty of space to stretch the legs but time flies by. You’ll crack 200mph no problem. Once again, Curva del Vialone will have you holding your breath. And you’ll need to manage your electrical juice and regen. There’s a big drop off in performance if your charge runs out before the end of the lap and a long distance between regen points.
    upload_2019-7-21_21-30-35.png
A BIG caution! There is the most horrendous bump of the way out of Curva Sud Alta Velocita, the final banked curve. You’ll see what I mean when it bites and spits you off into a horrendous high speed crash first few times round. 100% stability control and 100% TCS won’t save you! It’s a question of learning where to open the steering and lift slightly. Other than that, the car climbs the walls like a spider, really piles on the speed and handles the corrugated surface well. With a higher setting for regen/ recovery you can replenish the batteries in the big stopping areas then watch the climbing speedo munch the power down the straights. So line her up at Monza, light the afterburners and see what she’ll do. Avoid the nasty bite and let’s rip!

The tyres are either Hypercar Road or Hypercar Trofeos, recommended pressures are:
    ..Road - Front 31psi, Rear 32psi
    ..Trofeo - Front 32psi, Rear 33psi

So many crashes lol! That last damn curve is a killer. It wasn't till I had about 20 spins in the same spot and I could see all the skidmarks, that I was able to finally drive around that stupid bump.

I probably should spend a bit of time learning which parts of the track are best to use the power button on, as it was I only used it near the end of the lap. My split 3 time is 1 second slower than the wr, so I must be doing something wrong in that section. Ill try to upload the vid later today.

    Nice!
Yep I just built up a similar cache of skidmarks at that spot, made me chuckle reading this :)

I can't figure out how to stop all my electrical energy being delivered automatically, is it even possible in this thing? I have tried all three MGU-Delivery modes and each still seems to consume energy when I am full throttle but not pressing the boost button.

Better put this time down now and hopefully improve soon!

There are two bumps, they are depressions where the concrete slabs meet, due to the road angle flattening off the banking. I've shown the first in my intro, tough to spot at 200mph though. The second is two slabs later.:D I reversed up to check them out!
I braked too late for turn 1, lost time in this lap, but made it through the bumps twice.
That's a feat I haven't been able to repeat in the last 40mins!o_O

A few mistakes in last sector. I downshifted too early and lost some speed on the last corner, but maybe thats why I was able to make it around that corner...

    Great minds think alike!!
After being spat off the track again and again I decided to leave loads of skid marks near the bump so I could prepare for the bump, the bump still won.

Into the 2.18’s in a big way. Always aiming to be in 5% of the top guys so fairly happy with this. Need to figure out those 2 right handers before the bridge keep skimming the barriers which is costing me time..
    any videos yet?
Happy with this at the moment though.

I am soooo far behind the learning curve on this...I think I drove it when it was first introduced in AC. I just drove 3 laps around the track (I have quite a few laps of intimate experience with those nasty bumps on the banked curves) but have no idea if I am in Sport/Hybrid and no idea of PTP button...I suspect I have to do some reading and learning before I will be able to post a proper time. Unfortunately, I have a bit of time tonite and tomorrow and then I am away from the rig for the rest of the week. I did turn a couple 2:20's in my tire pressure setting runs so I suspect once I open up the 918s' bag of tricks a bit I will be able to get into the teens. What a gorgeous machine to drive though...I like it.

Starting to do the happy dance! After watching Pretend Racers video (thx mate!), I noticed his shift indicator app showed the battery bar...checked my Sidekick and it has an option to show the battery so now I have that info but no control over it...still looking for that Go Fast button (Kers?). TC off, Hotlap mode and man is it hard to thread the needle and miss those $#@!!!&^ bumps!

    I experienced the same issue.
The fix is simple: select something other than Optimal grip, then switch back to optimal and continue.
I'll try to put up a short video showing how to do it if my instructions didn't make sense.

It cooled down enough to have another little go at this; haven't touched the setup yet but managed to find a line where I can hold it flat through the dodgy bump so that was pleasing. I found I can only have one lap before the kers runs out so just have to restart after that, quite annoying as prevents getting into a nice flow and actually having a chance of beating my time.

I took in board some tips from last week about trail braking still no expert but moving in the right direction. Just about got the flat hairpin sorted before the bankings but more work needs to be done in turn 1 3 and 4 . I see how the 2.12s are being done. Tried an alien race but bizarrely I got fastest lap at 1.17 I guess due to the hybrid delivery..
anyway onwards and upwards. I can’t believe it’s taken a year to learn About trail braking!!!

    I love this thread.
