1. Do you need support for Assetto Corsa Competizione? Please use the proper forum below and ALWAYS zip and attach the WHOLE "Logs" folder in your c:\users\*youruser*\AppData\Local\AC2\Saved. The "AppData" folder is hidden by default, check "Hidden items" in your Windows view properties. If you report a crash, ALWAYS zip and attach the WHOLE "Crashes" folder in the same directory. Do not post "I have the same issue" in an existing thread with a game crash, always open your own thread. Do not PM developers and staff members for personal troubleshooting and support.
  2. As part of our continuous maintenance and improvements to Assetto Corsa Competizione we will be releasing small updates on a regular basis during the esports season which might not go through the usual announcement process detailing the changes until a later version update where these changes will be listed retrospectively.
  3. If ACC doesn't start with an error or the executable is missing, please add your entire Steam directory to the exceptions in your antivirus software, run a Steam integrity check or reinstall the game altogether. Make sure you add the User/Documents/Assetto Corsa Competizione folder to your antivirus/Defender exceptions and exclude it from any file sharing app (GDrive, OneDrive or Dropbox)! The Corsair iCue software is also known to conflict with Input Device initialization, if the game does not start up and you have such devices, please try disabling the iCue software and try again. [file:unknown] [line: 95] secure crt: invalid error is a sign of antivirus interference, while [Pak chunk signing mismatch on chunk] indicates a corrupted installation that requires game file verification.
  4. When reporting an issue with saved games, please always zip and attach your entire User/Documents/Assetto Corsa Competizione/Savegame folder, along with the logs and the crash folder (when reporting related to a crash).

Generic Weekly Hotlap Challenge #140 – The bully on the beach

Discussion in 'Console Lounge' started by Totall Wrytoff, Aug 5, 2019.

  1. Welcome to the thread for the Weekly Hotlap Challenge#140 – “The bully on the beach.”
Many apologies for the delay in getting this up.
Please note, the closing time for WHC entries is now 18:00GMT on Sundays.

    The Challenge: Hotlap
    Car: Mercedes-Benz AMG GT3
    Track: Zandvoort Circuit Park

    upload_2019-8-5_16-55-51.png
The AMG GT3. It’s a bruiser. It looks like a bruiser and sounds like one too. We haven’t used a GT3 car since Hugo Catarino’s WHC96 at Barcelona GP with the Z4 GT3. I avoid them because the PC’ers have ACC, I think they have too much downforce for the power and I think it’s a shame that these great engines have their breathing and fuelling choked by the FIA’s GT3 regulations. It affects the torque and power curves weirdly, some require you drive it like a diesel. But the AMG GT3 sounds great. The other great thing, although academic for most of us I suspect, is that you can drop Mercedes Racing an email and buy one of these for yourself. As of this June, they’ve sold a total of 130 GT3’s. Happy days.
Unlike the GT roadcar’s 4 litre twin-turbo, the GT3 race-car uses AMG’s 6.3-litre V8, called the M159. It is also used in the SLS AMG GT3. Apparently the 6.3l M159 has better “user friendliness,” ie; it’s older, so far less techy and complicated, so it’s more reliable, cheaper and easier to run and service!
Outrageously, the M159 in the GT3 has at least 100BHP and 35lbs/ft LESS than its road going brother in the SLS. It should be the other way round! Come on, a racing car should always have greater power than its road car derivative!! As you will see the GT3 is very fast around a circuit though; it’s lighter, uses slicks and has a very comprehensive and effective aero package. Presumably the race-car would be dropped by the road car on a derestricted autobahn. But on track, especially this one, the AMG GT3 is “der bosh!”
    upload_2019-8-5_16-56-23.png
Zandvoort by the sea. Zandvoort is the most frequently used track in WHC. It was last used in WHC#119 when we thrashed that pretend holiday rental car, the surprisingly fun Toyota Corolla.

Also, back in WHC#119, there was a possibility that F1 might return to Zandvoort. Ever the soothsayer here’s what I thought at the time…
“I can’t see it happening but it would be fantastic, then carnage!”

But, as I’m sure you all know, it HAS happened! Here is the official word – “On Tuesday 14th May 2019 it was confirmed that Zandvoort would host the Dutch Grand Prix for 2020 and beyond for a duration of at least three years, with the option to host another two in the future.”
The Dutch Grand Prix… (it even sounds excellent)…is scheduled for 8th-10th May 2020. We know and absolutely love what the Dutch are like! Max at home, with a few pals. That’s got to be worth a ticket, it will be on a different level and more than completely and utterly mad!

So what the AMG GT3 like around the seaside? There is masses and masses of grip. Certainly compared to last week, it will make you smile. You need to focus on being controlled and accurate then. But bumps you didn’t notice in the Toyota will now deflect you from your line, they’ll disrupt your braking and on the brakes at Scheivlak, can send you into the gravel. Greater speed and grip requires much greater attention to detail. This circuit has details by the bucket and spade load.

When you begin the challenge, just listen to that sound as you pull away for the first time. Rising up the revs through your tall first gear is like you rolling up your shirtsleeves and flexing your Popeye-like forearms in the younger kids’ play area! You have the big muscles, you are the bully!
Finally, as you enjoy the immediate effect of the steel racing brakes into, the eagle-claw grip through and the African-Bull-Elephant-level grunt out of the corners around this fascinating circuit, just think of doing it in an F1 car! Trust me, we will and roll-on May 2020. Meantime, go and be the bully on the beach!

Soft, Medium and Hard Racing Slicks are available. Generally standard for GT3 cars, the recommended pressure for all types is 26psi.

  4. First post is to say many thanks from me and I'm sure many thanks from all of us last week, to @Lewisxbone.
Thanks very much for stepping in to do the timings and so sorry for the last minute flap. I'm very grateful to you!:D

So on Friday morning last week, since the kids were away, Mrs Wrytoff demands a romantic weekend somewhere rural and by the sea. So there was very little time to organise anyone to help out, thanks again to Lewis. We were down in the New Forest and this morning, I'm thinking, get back as soon as poss to post WHC#140. My wife insisted we weren't in any rush to get home, I went quiet and then she said:
"would you like to go to the National Motor Museum at Beaulieu?"
Several people had asked if I was going but I'd said I couldn't possibly take my wife to look at cars on a romantic break...
It's well worth a visit if you haven't been, way too much to list, it's a petrol head's dream.
So WHC#140 is up even later than expected, but you get a (not very good) picture of the fabulous Mrs Wrytoff, seemingly poking her head out of the sun roof of our car. I mean, the car I would like.:)

A few quick scruffy laps to get on the board.
3-4 seconds to find throughout the week.
    Nice combo though
    Thanks TW, no probs.

    upload_2019-8-5_18-49-38.png

Just 8 laps done so far, loaded an old spa setup so probably room for improvement there. A couple of 1:40's to warm up, then a little pushing for a lower 39, then back to pit.
Checked thread, didn't beat Lewis yet so back out, a couple of invalid laps then 2 more which were tidier finishing in the 38's.
    That'll do for today :)

Wow, yes, sooo much grip. And a great sound too!
Sadly, far too many knobs to twiddle on the setup, most of which I haven't touched yet. Life's too short! :D

Can't quite seem to make the softs work for a whole lap - they overheat with every little slidey mistake :) - so I'm still a little quicker overall with the mediums.
    Setup tips gratefully received! :p

Superb intro to the WHC #140 @Totall Wrytoff ! WRT to the combo, I am the opposite of @LeiF . Love the track. The car...not so much. Mercedes....where is the wooden dash (real wood mind you) and the infotainment touch screen?...:D. However, I do love throwing a grippy powerful GT3 around this track. Flat out on the straight, downshift, tap the brake to set up the front end, then on the gas through the corner and the catapult launches!

Still on the Softs and have had to adjust tp's quite a bit as I got more aggressive/TC conservative at 4/soft arbs at 2/lotsa camber but not maxed. Also playing w gear ratios to get some good grunt at the apex. New brake pedals!

First time ever on this circuit. Put on hard tires for a long training session, but somehow Xbox network is disconnecting and couldn't make a long one.

This circuit and AMG GT3 combo reminds my country's roads, Brazil, with my car's upgraded suspension, a Bilstein B14. For that reason, my wife nicknamed my car "popcorn".[IMG]

A few tenths left here and there but I think I will need to try some setup changes to get much below 38.5, don't think ratios are particularly optimised for this track shall we say, when my 6th says 175 mph :)

    upload_2019-8-7_19-27-23.png

In fact looking at my three laps from today, I didn't go purple in either sector on the fastest lap lol!

    Another cheeky improvement :)

    1.38.558

Slightly shorter ratios this time, still didn't hit purple in both sectors though.
