1. Do you need support for Assetto Corsa Competizione? Please use the proper forum below and ALWAYS zip and attach the WHOLE "Logs" folder in your c:\users\*youruser*\AppData\Local\AC2\Saved. The "AppData" folder is hidden by default, check "Hidden items" in your Windows view properties. If you report a crash, ALWAYS zip and attach the WHOLE "Crashes" folder in the same directory. Do not post "I have the same issue" in an existing thread with a game crash, always open your own thread. Do not PM developers and staff members for personal troubleshooting and support.
  2. As part of our continuous maintenance and improvements to Assetto Corsa Competizione we will be releasing small updates on a regular basis during the esports season which might not go through the usual announcement process detailing the changes until a later version update where these changes will be listed retrospectively.
  3. If ACC doesn't start with an error or the executable is missing, please add your entire Steam directory to the exceptions in your antivirus software, run a Steam integrity check or reinstall the game altogether. Make sure you add the User/Documents/Assetto Corsa Competizione folder to your antivirus/Defender exceptions and exclude it from any file sharing app (GDrive, OneDrive or Dropbox)! The Corsair iCue software is also known to conflict with Input Device initialization, if the game does not start up and you have such devices, please try disabling the iCue software and try again. [file:unknown] [line: 95] secure crt: invalid error is a sign of antivirus interference, while [Pak chunk signing mismatch on chunk] indicates a corrupted installation that requires game file verification.
  4. When reporting an issue with saved games, please always zip and attach your entire User/Documents/Assetto Corsa Competizione/Savegame folder, along with the logs and the crash folder (when reporting related to a crash).

Generic Weekly Hotlap Challenge #144 – Mixed emissions

Discussion in 'Console Lounge' started by Totall Wrytoff, Sep 1, 2019.

  1. Welcome to the thread for the Weekly Hotlap Challenge #144 - Mixed emissions

    The Challenge: Hotlap
    Car: Ferrari 488 GTB
    Track: Red Bull Ring GP
    upload_2019-9-1_17-57-47.png
    upload_2019-9-1_17-58-29.png
We haven’t driven a Ferrari for four weeks and the last one we drove was called Superfast. This week it is called the Quattrocentottantotto and even in Assetto Corsa, (in other words sitting still in your room,) this car feels rabidly fast. The 488 GTB is a shockingly fast car. The will-power required to behave sensibly in public with this car would be way beyond me. The acceleration is utterly outrageous, gears two to five disappear in seconds at full throttle, by which time you are really travelling. Travelling like a fighter pilot in a low level dogfight. In fact, talking of dogs and those of you that have a dog will understand this, when you give a dog a treat, it sits there looking expectantly and wags its tail. You give the treat which disappears so fast, you wonder if it was there at all. The dog is still sitting, looking expectantly and wagging its tail, so you give it another and this time you notice the blur of movement and instant return to expectant wagging. That is the Ferrari gearbox. Feed it third for example and it devours it instantly and wants fourth, wagging its tail, waiting for another gear.
When it was launched in March 2015 the 488 GTB was the replacement for the brilliant 458 Italia. Ferrari has a long and illustrious history of mid-mounted V8s. The first was the 308 GTB over 40 years ago, so this is a vital model for their range. And there was huge consternation at the time. The free revving, scalpel sharp, naturally aspirated V8 was being replaced by a turbo V8. The first turbocharged Ferrari road car since 1987 and the 2.9-litre F120A V8 of the Ferrari F40. Main reason was to improve fuel economy and emissions. Reading about this I see apparently the 488 does “almost 25mpg.” Almost 25mpg. Hoho, that’s 10mpg more than I did driving from Inverness to London (580miles) last week in a two litre turbo, so really, expect almost 5mpg. Ferraris aren’t about emissions, they are about emotions!
And perhaps the 488 did lose some of the Ferrari character and emotion, but at the time nobody noticed because it was so shockingly fast. Suddenly the 458 Italia seemed a decade out of date.
So why is it so fast?
The 488 GTB is powered by the Ferrari F154. The F154 isn’t just any old engine. This is a 3,902cc all-aluminium, flat-plane crankshaft, dry sump V8, with two parallel ball-bearing, twin-scroll turbochargers and two air-to-air intercoolers. Mathematicians will notice each cylinder has a capacity of quattrocentottantotto cc. The turbine wheels are made of a super special, low-density TiAl alloy as used in jet engines to reduce inertia and resist high temperatures. This pinnacle of Ferrari engineering and know-how generates 660bhp at 8,000 rpm and 561lb/ft of torque from just 3,000 rpm. That’s a specific power output of 169hp and 144 lb/ft torque per litre, both records for Ferrari. But not only that….
The expertise and effort of Ferrari has led to a total of 14 awards in the International Engine of the Year competition, including a record of four consecutive overall titles between 2016 and 2019, along with four “Best Performance Engine” titles. The engine also won the 2016 Best New Engine recognition on its debut. Between 2016 and 2018 the F154 took first place in the 3-to-4 litre class. Following the adoption of new categories, in 2019 it won both 550-650PS and Above 650PS awards.
The 488 GTB was named "The Supercar of the Year 2015" by Top Gear and 2017 "Best Driver's Car" by Motor Trend.
In 2018 the F154 was crowned International Engine of the Year Best of the Best as the most significant engine since the launch of the International Engine of the Year in 1999. Suffice to say, the 488 GTB rocks!
    upload_2019-9-1_18-1-27.png
After some trial and consideration the place to rock is the Red Bull Ring. This circuit shows off the car and the engine’s blistering performance to great effect. Great traction away from the slower corners, great feeling of balance through the faster turns. But be too keen on the throttle before the car has settled and you’ll be speared into the barriers. Getting it slightly wrong is a big accident rapidly. You won’t just jump in a nail a lap, it will take some building up to. TC Off is a very big, brave move this week. The torque is rampant and very tricky to measure, can you better the Ferrari electronics? Can you better RSR’s theoretical best - a 1.34.4? No mixed emotions about it, although already superseded by the F8 Tributo, Enzo would love the 488, the car is outrageously fast, it’s going to be an emissionable experience!

Tyres this week are Hypercar Road – According to the “Ferrarichat” blog, the 488 came with Pirelli P Zeros or Michelins. "For track tests, Ferrari fitted Pilot Sport Cup 2s because they provided better results." I'm sure well have the Pirellis! Recommended pressures are, 32psi for the fronts, 33psi for the rears.

Quick few laps, finally, to get the party going.
I was very distracted this evening. Wife and kids are away in Cuba and out of the blue, a lady neighbour turned up,:cool:popped in for drinks, then stayed for supper. We sat on the sofa and chatted... and I realised I wanted to watch the F1 highlights and get a few laps in rather than try to remember how to.... Anyway, she left, probably gutted but all ok;), I watched the highlights and did seven laps. Phew. Not guilty but clearly still have the pace, this doesn't happen often, I might have rushed the write-up for 143, but thanks for listening and letting me get that off my chest.:D

For a true record, it was awkward, Spa was a case of anything but, and I behaved like a gentleman, I reckon!:D

OK, I didn't yet touch the toe, but corrected PSI again then went out with enough fuel for 8 laps:
