1. Do you need support for Assetto Corsa Competizione? Please use the proper forum below and ALWAYS zip and attach the WHOLE "Logs" folder in your c:\users\*youruser*\AppData\Local\AC2\Saved. The "AppData" folder is hidden by default, check "Hidden items" in your Windows view properties. If you report a crash, ALWAYS zip and attach the WHOLE "Crashes" folder in the same directory. Do not post "I have the same issue" in an existing thread with a game crash, always open your own thread. Do not PM developers and staff members for personal troubleshooting and support.
  2. As part of our continuous maintenance and improvements to Assetto Corsa Competizione we will be releasing small updates on a regular basis during the esports season which might not go through the usual announcement process detailing the changes until a later version update where these changes will be listed retrospectively.
  3. If ACC doesn't start with an error or the executable is missing, please add your entire Steam directory to the exceptions in your antivirus software, run a Steam integrity check or reinstall the game altogether. Make sure you add the User/Documents/Assetto Corsa Competizione folder to your antivirus/Defender exceptions and exclude it from any file sharing app (GDrive, OneDrive or Dropbox)! The Corsair iCue software is also known to conflict with Input Device initialization, if the game does not start up and you have such devices, please try disabling the iCue software and try again. [file:unknown] [line: 95] secure crt: invalid error is a sign of antivirus interference, while [Pak chunk signing mismatch on chunk] indicates a corrupted installation that requires game file verification.
  4. When reporting an issue with saved games, please always zip and attach your entire User/Documents/Assetto Corsa Competizione/Savegame folder, along with the logs and the crash folder (when reporting related to a crash).

Generic Weekly Hotlap Challenge #146 – The timekeeper’s target

Discussion in 'Console Lounge' started by Totall Wrytoff, Sep 15, 2019.

  1. Welcome to the thread for the Weekly Hotlap Challenge #146 – The timekeeper’s target

As we come up to the 150th Anniversary of the WHC we are going to celebrate the milestone with a series of challenges chosen in co-operation with those who have played a significant role in the WHC, The Legends of WHC!

Quick reminder to all, please could you include your name and format as described below when posting your times.

    The Challenge: Hotlap
Car: Ferrari 458 Italia Stage 3
    Track: Imola
    upload_2019-9-15_18-7-15.png
    upload_2019-9-15_18-7-23.png
If you haven’t driven this car, I think the Ferrari 458 Step 3 will surprise you and quickly slot into your garage of favourites.
As we all know the Ferrari 458 is much more than a car. It is a masterpiece of engineering, a precision instrument of speed and dynamics, clad in a supermodel-level-hot body.
Does Assetto Corsa’s “Stage 3” improve on the brilliance? According the Assetto Corsa database the Stage 3 has - extensive modifications to the suspension springs and dampers, similar to those seen on the 458 challenge trofeo car. It sits much lower to the ground, taking full advantage of the underbody aerodynamics. It is also much lighter than the road car weighting under 1200kg and runs on slick tyres.
The one thing that could be said about the 458 Italia was, whilst it had fantastic balance, in my hands at least, it was a bit, erm, slidey.

But now we’ve got slicks, which is the second thing you notice when driving off for the first time. You can hammer it into corners, enjoy that delicious balance for a split second and then hammer it out! Here’s a car that you can hustle and finesse around the lap.
If you haven’t guessed yet, it’s a great choice of car by the man who has partaken in more WHCs than anyone else, who is often fastest around a track and who is our current timekeeper. I would like to quickly point out, this will be a surprise to him, be assured he won’t have been practising, unless by pure chance.
    upload_2019-9-15_18-12-31.png
We last used Imola for WHC 126 with the P330. The circuit is named after Ferrari founder Enzo and his son Dino, who died aged just 24 years old. It is a legendary track but there’s something about it – it has taken its victims and of course we lost an icon here. The place is eerily still - it retains that hushed, painful atmosphere of sad loss, an echo of the afternoon where thousands of us stood or sat, just staring, unbelieving, stunned and numb.
So let’s do what all of those in our memories would want us to do here. Take to the track in something joyously fast and noisy! The circuit is fast and flowing, but requires bravery and precision on the brakes with accuracy of line into the quick corners and through the chicanes.

The timekeeper’s target is a lap of 1 min 44 secs, or under (obviously, expressed in the right format). The top men will enjoy going for that and trying to beat the 1 min 45.4 sec best lap on RSR. The rest of us will be having huge fun, but aiming to get under 1 min 50. Good call the Timekeeper!:)

    Tyres this week are interesting. There’s a choice of the familiar Semislicks, or as mentioned, a slick tyre called the Trofeo H Slick. The choice for a fast lap is a no brainer. I looked up Trofeo and I found this commentary on the tyres in Assetto Corsa from Aris, the physics engine developer at Kunos;
“When TopGear tested the Pagani Huayra, the lap time was nothing sort of incredible... the fans noted that the car had some "strange" tyres fitted for the fast lap and in the end both TG and Pagani admitted that the car was fitted with some "special tyres". Those tyres were actually slick tyres, hand cut with a rudimental tread.
We (have) simulated those tyres in the Huayra and so we are using them (in the correct dimensions) in the other hypercars too. They are truly slick tyres, even way too grippy and probably they last too much... We called them trofeo because... too long story... but they are proper slicks.”

So that explains the Lambos, Paganis etc, but here we have Trofeo Slicks. What I can confirm is that, unlike the standard car, which feels like running down a steep, icy pavement in leather-soled shoes, these Trofeo Slicks grip like new trainers on a squash court. The Timekeeper’s target is set, you have seven days!

    Recommended Pressures:
    ..Semislicks – 33psi front 34psi rear
    ..Trofeo h slicks – 28psi all round

How to take part - Hot lap:
To enter, select Hotlap, choose the Ferrari 458 Italia Stage 3 and the Imola circuit.
Please setup the session as shown below:
    Mode: Hotlap
    Time of day: Free
    Ambient Temp: 26 Degrees
    Setup: Free
    Controller: Free
    Assists: Free
    Stability: Free
To qualify you must have the ambient temp set to 26 DegC.

    Deadline: Sunday 22nd September 2019 - by 18:00 BST.
Chequered Flag will drop shortly before 6pm.

You can run as many laps as you like and update your times as often as you like. It is all about taking part, pushing yourself and enjoying Assetto Corsa. All Platforms are welcome.

To submit a time, pause the game and select 'session' from the menu and screenshot this page or take a photo of your screen and post it in this thread - Note all the information from the screen is required including temperature, mode heading and of course the car being used!

Please post video clips and share information in here as well, but without the session screen your time will not be included (placing the session screen in a video clip is acceptable).

:DPlease use the following format to post your times::D

First two laps, then corrected psi and dropped tc by a notch, outlap and two more laps, still getting the hang of the car though.

Wasn't going to have a go tonight, but it's Imola so couldn't resist a really quick attempt :) should be a fun one!

  5. WHC#146 NOTICE:
Correction: - the chequered flag will fall shortly before 18:00BST, not 18:00GMT as has been previously advised.

Many thanks to @Neilski for pointing out.

    Another quick point;
A 1.44 this week is going to be harder than getting to Mars and back for me!!:)

Tyre wear off, fuel 10 and 10 laps to sort tyre pressures.
First few laps felt good but shockingly were only around 1.54, having expected a high 40s, 6 secs off, as being fairly easy to get!
Relieved to see @LeiF 's time. He's a pro, so I'm not as far off as I feared.:)

I had to dumb this thing down though to allow me to drive it.

    Then I crashed it again.

    I don't crash.

Gave up and went to bed.

Not sure why not adding my username is suddenly an issue. I've been here for almost 2 years and it's been fine. But whatever.

Here's what I got so far after 10 laps. Increased the pressures all around by 2 psi.

Since I won't have much time this week I'll try to put my best time asap, although I HIGHLY doubt it'll be anywhere near a 1:44.

What a Sunday! All three of my MLB teams (Cardinals, Rays, Braves) lost, along with the Eagles from the NFL. My favorite QB in Drew Brees got hurt and his team lost too. Dovizioso got smashed while Marquez is back up there "flexin" on the competition in MotoGP. Plus my motorcycle is in the shop as it's been for much of these past two months with me losing money and sanity over it.

Yeah. I think those are most of the reasons why I hopped onto AC tonight and gave this a go. Oh, and obviously because the car is a Ferrari. Reminds me that LeClerc actually won a few F1 races since the last time I did a hotlap challenge. I'm surprised I even remember how to drive anymore. Seems like I missed a bunch of storytime and fun here as well.
