1. Do you need support for Assetto Corsa Competizione? Please use the proper forum below and ALWAYS zip and attach the WHOLE "Logs" folder in your c:\users\*youruser*\AppData\Local\AC2\Saved. The "AppData" folder is hidden by default, check "Hidden items" in your Windows view properties. If you report a crash, ALWAYS zip and attach the WHOLE "Crashes" folder in the same directory. Do not post "I have the same issue" in an existing thread with a game crash, always open your own thread. Do not PM developers and staff members for personal troubleshooting and support.
  2. As part of our continuous maintenance and improvements to Assetto Corsa Competizione we will be releasing small updates on a regular basis during the esports season which might not go through the usual announcement process detailing the changes until a later version update where these changes will be listed retrospectively.
  3. If ACC doesn't start with an error or the executable is missing, please add your entire Steam directory to the exceptions in your antivirus software, run a Steam integrity check or reinstall the game altogether. Make sure you add the User/Documents/Assetto Corsa Competizione folder to your antivirus/Defender exceptions and exclude it from any file sharing app (GDrive, OneDrive or Dropbox)! The Corsair iCue software is also known to conflict with Input Device initialization, if the game does not start up and you have such devices, please try disabling the iCue software and try again. [file:unknown] [line: 95] secure crt: invalid error is a sign of antivirus interference, while [Pak chunk signing mismatch on chunk] indicates a corrupted installation that requires game file verification.
  4. When reporting an issue with saved games, please always zip and attach your entire User/Documents/Assetto Corsa Competizione/Savegame folder, along with the logs and the crash folder (when reporting related to a crash).

Generic Weekly Hotlap Challenge #152 – No Pretending

Discussion in 'Console Lounge' started by Totall Wrytoff, Nov 2, 2019.

  1. Welcome to the thread for the Weekly Hotlap Challenge #152 - No Pretending

Quick reminder to all, please use the format prescribed below to post an entry.

    The Challenge: Hotlap
    Car: Shelby Cobra 427 S/C
    Track: Spa Francochamps
    upload_2019-11-2_18-7-28.png
    upload_2019-11-2_18-7-38.png
Last month I had the great pleasure of corresponding with one of the slidyest, fastest men in the world, to get some ideas for combis and for him to nominate his favourite. And this isn’t quite it! Unfortunately both Zandvoort and Mugello have featured recently, so it’s his choice of car at Spa, instead.
The British built AC Cobra had been around for some time when, in September 1961, American automotive designer Carroll Shelby wrote to AC asking if they would build him a car modified to accept a V8 engine, which Ford, to compete with Chrysler, had supplied him. AC agreed and exported modified cars, less engine and gearbox to Shelby, who then finished the cars in his workshop in Los Angeles.
It appears the cars may not have been particularly well “modified” though.
After an enormous amount of redesign and fettling Shelby produced the predecessor to the car we have in Asetto Corsa, the 390 Big Block Cobra. Surprisingly, the steering rack was borrowed from the MGB while the new steering column came from the VW Beetle. Un-surprisingly I laughed when I first read this - Shelby’s test driver Ken Miles drove and raced the Mark II at Sebring and pronounced the car virtually un-driveable, naming it "The Turd".
So Shelby, with help from Ford, designed a completely new chassis and called it the Mark III. There was a standard model and a competition car, which is the car which we have in the game. S/C stands for “semi-competition. Into the Mark III, Shelby installed the most excellently named "side oiler" 427cubic inch V8 Ford FE engine with a single 4-barrel carburettor, producing a completely insane 485bhp and 465lbs/ft (626Nm) of torque, although Ford never released an official power rating for the FE 427.

I’m sure most of you know that 427 cubic inches is seven litres.
    upload_2019-11-2_18-8-16.png
Seven litres. In a car weighing just over a ton, on old fashioned tyres and with a chassis that flexes more than a flexible gymnast. There’s also a thunderous 465lbs/ft of torque, too. In comparison, around thirty years later, the McLaren F1 has only 10lbf/ft more!
    upload_2019-11-2_18-8-34.png
It is Spa not Mugello, but there’s more room and it’s scarier. Spa is one of my favourite circuits. It takes a lot of learning and there is a great variety of corners. Thanks very much to Pretend racer for his time and input!
    Let’s have a go then…

Recommended pressure for the vintage tyres is 43psi.

I found the stock setting almost undriveable. This will take many laps to fine tune this car to make it lap this course quickly. I tried to tune it some and ended up with this so far. It's more of an adjustment for me to adapt to the driving style required to be quick with this beast. Very fun though!

Ok, just a quick disclaimer though, I am not an "alien", I have only been sim racing on Assetto Corsa for maybe a year now..I am not great at tuning. Tuning really comes down to driver preference as well. My best advice is to use this car as a training tool to calibrate your muscles/mind on how you should be treating throttle application in any car, especially a vintage wild race car. But with that aside, here is what I did so far..still not how I want it.

    For the moment:
    CAMBER: -0.5 F, 0 R
    TOE 30 F, 12 R
Front toe is maxed because of the low front ride height (480 F, 0R). I set the height that way to level the car as a baseline and keep it as low as possible. Still messing around with the damper stiffness, although I've got them way stiffer than stock.

Thank You TW! Best combo in a while IMO lol.

Last time I did this combo was June 2017, and I did a 2.43.695 back then. I used the same setup which was based on a setup by schnipp downloaded from the setup market. I upped the brake pressure to 100 percent. I probably put the bias back a click or two as well. Put a couple clicks of positive toe in the back, adjusted the psi to suit and attacked the course again.

Looks like after 2 years I was able to gain about 2 seconds which is pretty cool. Still about 3 tenths of the record, for now....

Mega lap J! Knew you were going to come out strong for this one :)
I hope I can also gain 2 seconds though not likely lol - it’s not on rsr but my AC tells me I did a 2.42.8 some time in the past.

  20. What’s wrong with the left foot, Mr. Wrytoff? Hope everything’s okay!

*didn’t get to watch the Gran Prix myself, 2 AM is just way too late to start my week, but happy to see Lewis clinched the title. Impressive driving at the beginning from him. Looking at the highlights, it reminds me just how good he could be when he’s got the right car under him.
With that said, can we skip 2020 specs and have a go with the gorgeous 2021 cars next year?

Emmanuel Tubbiolo and Lewisxbone like this.
  21. I had a mid-tarsal joint sprain, I think it's better, pain has gone, limp has gone.
I thought I had done it in training, doc said it could be caused by stamping - ie; jumping onto a Fanatec brake pedal too hard!:D

I'm having a go this evening, using all feet, see how it goes!:)
