1. Do you need support for Assetto Corsa Competizione? Please use the proper forum below and ALWAYS zip and attach the WHOLE "Logs" folder in your c:\users\*youruser*\AppData\Local\AC2\Saved. The "AppData" folder is hidden by default, check "Hidden items" in your Windows view properties. If you report a crash, ALWAYS zip and attach the WHOLE "Crashes" folder in the same directory. Do not post "I have the same issue" in an existing thread with a game crash, always open your own thread. Do not PM developers and staff members for personal troubleshooting and support.
  2. As part of our continuous maintenance and improvements to Assetto Corsa Competizione we will be releasing small updates on a regular basis during the esports season which might not go through the usual announcement process detailing the changes until a later version update where these changes will be listed retrospectively.
  3. If ACC doesn't start with an error or the executable is missing, please add your entire Steam directory to the exceptions in your antivirus software, run a Steam integrity check or reinstall the game altogether. Make sure you add the User/Documents/Assetto Corsa Competizione folder to your antivirus/Defender exceptions and exclude it from any file sharing app (GDrive, OneDrive or Dropbox)! The Corsair iCue software is also known to conflict with Input Device initialization, if the game does not start up and you have such devices, please try disabling the iCue software and try again. [file:unknown] [line: 95] secure crt: invalid error is a sign of antivirus interference, while [Pak chunk signing mismatch on chunk] indicates a corrupted installation that requires game file verification.
  4. When reporting an issue with saved games, please always zip and attach your entire User/Documents/Assetto Corsa Competizione/Savegame folder, along with the logs and the crash folder (when reporting related to a crash).

Generic Weekly Hotlap Challenge #153 – A team come true - Total tribute to Lewis Hamilton and Mercedes-AMG P

Discussion in 'Console Lounge' started by Totall Wrytoff, Nov 9, 2019.

  1. Welcome to the thread for the Weekly Hotlap Challenge #153 – A tribute to the brilliant Lewis Hamilton and Mercedes-AMG Petronas - his sixth Formula 1 Championship title and Mercedes-AMG – the F1 constructor’s champion since 2014!!

This is also the 50th WHC I have submitted.
What can we do as a suitable celebration for both events? Obviously run a hotlap and a race. The single make Mercedes SLS AMGs race is for Lewis, the hotlap in the Porsche 911 Carrera RSR 3.0 is my 50th WHC.

No excuses for running the full circuit at Brands Hatch again. We are so lucky to have this absolute peach of a track in glorious, laser scanned detail.
As for the car…? A Porsche 930 911 has been my fantasy car since I was ten years old. I’ve got a little story for you.
At that age I was at a boarding school on the south coast. On Sundays parents could visit and take children out for a few hours. My good friend at the time, AB, asked me if I would like to join him for lunch one Sunday. Any excuse to escape was gratefully seized, even with someone else’s parents.
Collection was from midday and we were waiting in the hall overlooking the front forecourt. As I watched, a black Porsche 911 SC Targa rolled over the ramp and into the drive. “Wow,” I thought, “whose is that?”
The driver’s door swung open, a long female leg extended and my jaw dropped to the floor. Aged only ten, I immediately registered; “an eleven!”
    “There’s Mum!” said AB.
“Whaaat?” My ears popped, I couldn’t breathe. “That’s your Mum?” I squeaked!
Mrs B was very, very fit indeed.
She had black shades on, long, raven-black hair to the middle of her back, a leather biker jacket, tight over a thrusting pair of stunning sculptures and faded black jeans, so so tight over such shapely legs. She was waving us over.
“My God,” I thought, “a unicorn!”
    I sprinted.
This is one of those far away memories now, but the overload across all senses remains brilliant and vivid. I remember stooping and squeezing past the folded forward front seat into the back, it’s a sort of shelf really. It was cramped and very hard, it smelt of Porsche and leather and you are isolated from the front by the high backed seats. Mrs B, with the confidence of Derek Bell, blipped the throttle, looked at me over her shoulder and said “Ready?”
Just as I was leaning forward to say “Okaay!” there was a flare of revs and bang, I was flung back, almost prone. I could hear stones flicking up inside the wheel arches to my left and right, the noise of the engine was brutal and loud and we were shifting down the school drive!
As we got out of the grounds and onto the little twisty roads between the high hedgerows, Mrs B got serious and gave it the beans. I felt like the pea in an angry ref’s whistle!
Oh! My! Good! Lord!! Have you ever felt utter, indescribable exhilaration?
My father was an amateur racing driver, I had been driven fast in a car, but Mrs B was on another level. She was chatting away as we travelled faster than a ground attack fighter jet. I remember a sparrow, caught by surprise at our pace, sucked up over the bonnet, roof and shot out in the slipstream over the tail - all in a fraction of a millisecond. I had never ever, ever been anything like that fast. My legs and arms were stretched out in a brace across the back to avoid being flung around. I could hardly take it in. Scenery came at the upright windscreen like I could not believe. Side window view was too much, a hypnotic blur. I remember the noise of the engine rising and falling. The warm smell of the summer countryside, hot engine and exhaust. Mrs B’s hair flicking wildly in the draught from the targa… That day I experienced something I shall never forget. I had a selection of entirely new feelings, centred on the shape of the opposite gender and Porsche 911s. Rock on!

The car feels fantastic at Brands. The noise of this 911 is just right and reminds me vividly of how things sounded on that exciting Sunday morning.
By coincidence the Porsche 911 Carrera RSR 3.0 was Graveltrap’s choice around Silverstone ‘67 for WHC49. Porsche built the RSR 3.0 through 1974 and into 1975, Paul Newman bought one and it would go on to become the most successful Group 4 racing car of its time.
    upload_2019-11-9_16-2-31.png
I hadn’t intended to use Brands Hatch, nor this 911. But, late on Friday, I gave this combi a run and wow! Absorbing! Addictive! But - apart from your tyre pressures - I think, fiddle with the set-up at your peril! Stock - the car is balanced and benign, but, for example, it can turn into an oversteering beast with just a quick tweak to ride height. Mind you, we know someone who will like that!

I think this might be my optimum combi – best old school car (one of) and best track (possibly.):DListen and feel for yourself, I hope you enjoy and… am I not right?

The fastest time on RSR is a 1:36.116. Andy-R is next with a 1:36.418. No pressure then.

Recommended inflation for the Vintage GT70 tyres is 34psi across the front and 35psi at the rear

Quick Race: 4 Laps - Same Make
    Car: Mercedes Benz SLS AMG
    Track: Silverstone 1967

    upload_2019-11-9_16-4-52.png
It’s a Quick Race! Single-Make, start from last, 5 opponents - fastest time for four laps around Silverstone ’67 in the Mercedes SLS AMG.
Lewis Hamilton is un-arguably outstanding. An almost unprecedented driving talent, a superb athlete, a lovely bloke, a sportsman and gentleman.
Mercedes-AMG Petronas Motorsport, led by Toto Wolff, is described as “a team come true!”
They have both propelled the Mercedes-AMG brand to extraordinary success over the last decade. We’re using the SLS because I watched Lewis Hamilton throwing one around Silverstone and he seemed to enjoy it.
The car is very quick, but can feel like a big, heavy boat as you will find out on track. It feels very difficult to slow down, it turns in well and then you have to be very careful about applying the power. Out of the corner wait until the car has settled before nailing it, otherwise you’ll be fighting it all the way down the straight. And of course, this is a race, as Lewis would want! You are up against five other SLSs, so a six car race. Like six world titles.
    upload_2019-11-9_16-6-49.png
“Our” (Lewis’s and my!) home circuit of Silverstone ‘67 is, in my opinion, a very fast, intriguingly difficult track. There are few trackside markers, the corners are extremely technical, they look deceptively similar but each require slightly different braking, turn in and exit throttle. The road is wide, so you have to be more accurate with braking and turn in to get a good time. It looks a wide and forgiving track, but in fact almost any error is terminal due the speed you were surprised to be doing! For the purpose of this Challenge, it is your time for four laps that counts. Four perfect laps, like Lewis Hamilton would do, please.

It is up to you which AI level you choose to compete at. The Alien level drivers are doing 1:36 and 1:37s.
Of the three RSR entries for this combi, the best is a 1:37.522. I managed a 1:37.2 in testing (Fuel 10L, otherwise stock.)

How to set up the session and get your total race time are described in detail below, here’s a quick screen grab. NB; Opponent Level and Opponent Aggression are up to you. Ambient temp at 26DegC.
    upload_2019-11-9_16-7-39.png
Two types of tyre for the Mercedes: Streets and Semislicks.
Recommended pressures are: Street - 38psi front and 37psi rear. Semislicks - 34psi all round

    *******Personal note of thanks********
It seems like way more than a year since I took a huge plunge and volunteered to cover Hugo Catarino for a couple of WHCs! Although I had been participating for some time, I felt like more of an occasional than one of the regulars. So on 11th November 2018, with my heart in my mouth, for the first time ever on a forum on the internet, I created a thread! I’m hugely grateful for all of the positive support then and since. Thank-you all very much indeed, it’s been a great ride and with help, it will totally continue! Be faster!

Nice one! I'm looking forward to trying the 911 :D

Was your friend's mum a professional racing driver or what?
And you definitely chose the right age to be sitting in the back seat of a 911 btw! Probably the smallest back seat I've ever sat in... ;);)

Lord knows I am no fan of vintage models and when bh came up as a circuit I was worried.
However 8 laps later you have again blown my preconceptions away and introduced me to more wonders of this game.
Fast I may not be but turning this into the corners and feeling the back kick out with lift off oversteer then sliding it sideways round the bends . Ohhh weee I am a driving GOD. Or minor deity at least..

Love the combo and congrats on 50 milestone.

  5. Haha! The Merc will pop that balloon!
It is the opposite of the Porsche, it has turned me into a driving plonker.
If it don't understeer, it oversteer!
40 mins in, I'm on my 7th race restart, yet to complete 3 laps successfully!:D

Great intro! I will think of Mrs B every time I see a Targa from now on lol
I had a similar experience in an old 911 which belonged to my mates aunt (unlike your story the experience was on a purely mechanical level as it was driven at the time by my mates Dad!) Haring along the bendy coast road of north Cornwall in the back, hearing that engine right behind and seeing the dry stone walls flying by inches away, yep I was already hooked!

Two cars I really like this week, RSR is one of the best cars in AC and the SLS is just so ridiculous that it is right up my street.

Lots of fun! My initial setup tweaks seemed to help and then I took a totally wrong direction. I'll probably have to bin it and go back to the start to work out what I did wrong.

The forum is not letting me post pics right now - it tries to and then gives up :-/
Happens with both copy+paste of a bitmap and "upload a file".
@AC Support @pankykapus - sorry chaps, but I have no idea who looks after the website, so am tagging a couple of you. This image upload problem has been around now for several days if not longer, and has bitten some of the people who post in these WHC threads. Any idea what's up? Thanks ;)
