1. Do you need support for Assetto Corsa Competizione? Please use the proper forum below and ALWAYS zip and attach the WHOLE "Logs" folder in your c:\users\*youruser*\AppData\Local\AC2\Saved. The "AppData" folder is hidden by default, check "Hidden items" in your Windows view properties. If you report a crash, ALWAYS zip and attach the WHOLE "Crashes" folder in the same directory. Do not post "I have the same issue" in an existing thread with a game crash, always open your own thread. Do not PM developers and staff members for personal troubleshooting and support.
  2. As part of our continuous maintenance and improvements to Assetto Corsa Competizione we will be releasing small updates on a regular basis during the esports season which might not go through the usual announcement process detailing the changes until a later version update where these changes will be listed retrospectively.
  3. If ACC doesn't start with an error or the executable is missing, please add your entire Steam directory to the exceptions in your antivirus software, run a Steam integrity check or reinstall the game altogether. Make sure you add the User/Documents/Assetto Corsa Competizione folder to your antivirus/Defender exceptions and exclude it from any file sharing app (GDrive, OneDrive or Dropbox)! The Corsair iCue software is also known to conflict with Input Device initialization, if the game does not start up and you have such devices, please try disabling the iCue software and try again. [file:unknown] [line: 95] secure crt: invalid error is a sign of antivirus interference, while [Pak chunk signing mismatch on chunk] indicates a corrupted installation that requires game file verification.
  4. When reporting an issue with saved games, please always zip and attach your entire User/Documents/Assetto Corsa Competizione/Savegame folder, along with the logs and the crash folder (when reporting related to a crash).

Generic Weekly Hotlap Challenge 162 – More manageable at Magione

  1. Welcome to the thread for the Weekly Hotlap Challenge 162 – More manageable at Magione?

    Challenge
    Hotlap:
    Car: Ruf CTR Yellowbird ‘87
    Track: Magione

For WHC 162 I’m chuffed to propose the Ruf Yellowbird! A true widow-maker! In a word, oversteer. It is chest-wig time chaps. Just try it with 100% turbo, on the Street 90’s tyres with driver aids off. I’ve dialled back a bit on the circuit for this week’s challenge, because, unless your name is Stefan Roser, the car is an almost impossible, rampantly knife-edge-twitchy, handful. I had intended Silverstone, but in five laps of testing, I failed to complete the circuit without spin or penalty. It is more manageable at Magione. In fact this is a great circuit to dial into this car and the long straight allows you to let it rip. And wow! Rip, it most certainly does.
Even by today’s ridiculous standards (eg; the McLaren 720s? 0-100 in 4.9 secs?) the CTR’s performance numbers are very impressive, let alone when it was released in 1987.
How about 0-100 mph in 7.3 seconds? In about 1993, I had a drive in a development mule: Cosworth was looking at ways to reduce lag in a high boost turbos and had built 2 development Sierras. The car was officially timed at 0-100 in 8.2 secs. On the roads around Hazelmere in Surrey it felt insanely fast. You’re doing a ton very very quickly, leaving you very little time and space to brake….! It was for sale, but having tried it, I just didn’t trust myself, (I may not have been here writing this) and it was just way too much for public roads. Besides, I didn’t have off street parking.;)
Here’s an even better number, the Yellowbird does 0–150 mph (241 km/h, yes - 150mph!!) in 14.59 seconds. At the time, the supercar Ferrari F40 was a full two seconds slower. For those of you who haven’t devoured the story of the Yellowbird, it was built by Porsche tuners Ruf, to get a world headline top speed:
The Ruf CTR (Group C, Turbo Ruf, nicknamed “Yellowbird,”) was based on the 1987 911 Carrera 3.2, not the faster 911 Turbo, because of the 3.2's slightly lower curb weight and critically, because it was narrower, so had a lower drag coefficient.
The car featured an enlarged and mentally tuned version of the 3.2 litre flat-six, lightened body panels, a roll cage, upgraded suspension and brakes, a custom 5-speed gearbox and lightweight polyurethane bumpers. Aside from boring the 3.2 to 3.4 litres, using the 962 race car ignition, fitting twin-turbochargers and twin intercoolers, the main focus was on aerodynamics. Big work went into reducing high speed drag - the body was de-guttered and seam welded, filler panels smoothed the door pillars and standard wing mirrors replaced with tiny, narrow 935-style versions. It is thin and slippery and designed for 200mph plus.

The Yellowbird was an absolute result for Ruf, it put them on the map and has since become a legend. In its day the Yellowbird totally outperformed the competition, topping out at 213 mph (342 km/h) - the fastest production car in the world. And probably the most difficult to control. Unless your name is Stefan “massive balls” Roser.
Despite the poor pic quality, here it is for you, (probably once again!) still scary to watch – Stefan Roser’s laps of the Nordschleife without gloves… or helmet. As well as being the proper way to market a car, it is an example of utter, butt-clenching bravery and lightning quick, but delightfully skilful, helmsmanship: (fun starts properly at 2mins 17sec, remember to breathe occasionally)

The car came by its nickname during testing by Road & Track magazine. Apparently, on their photo shoot, staff members were pretty spun out by the contrast the bright yellow paintwork created against the cloudy skies. (It was a far out day, man!)
Ruf manufactured only 29 cars, with another 20–30 cars built from customer Carreras, so there were only about 60 Yellowbirds. Presumably, many of those have “gone through a hedge backwards” at big speeds. In August 2018, a 1989 example, with only 52,200km on the clock, was sold by Sotheby's at Monterey for $1,022,500.

Magione, the Autodromo di Umbria’s last appearance was way back in WHC 135. It is nobody’s favourite circuit, unless you are lapping the Yellowbird..., in which case it is a lovely, easy circuit, with at least a couple of tricky bits.
    upload_2020-1-18_17-58-39.png
Having bumped down the Start/ Finish straight, it took me several goes to get round the first corner, Curva del Traliccio. On managing oversteer a driving coach once said to me, “if you feel it and react, you are too late.” Anticipate it, get ahead of the car, it should all come together. We might even get a glimpse of why the 911 inspires such enthusiasm from those in the know!
Exciting del Traliccio in second gear, the turbo really comes in with a bang. You’re facing the other way before you can react. When it snaps you may catch it, but if you haven’t already unwound the lock, it’s coming back the other way. Harder and faster too! Wind the oppo lock on, and then immediately off…. like you have a nervous twitch (see the film.)
Then, Curvone, err, having bumped and bounced your way down the next straight, will also get your full attention (and full clench-on.) Bumpy at the braking point, turn in at speed, avoid too much kerb, catch it, straighten, slow and turn in to the next right, avoiding too much kerb, same again for the next even tighter right, catch it and breathe….!
If, in this challenge, you ever have the feeling that you’ve absolutely nailed Curvone and the following right-handers, you ARE a driving God.
Finally, it is soooo easy to throw away a good lap by spinning out of the last corner, so caution at Curve Muro or there will be instant wall contact and tears! Trust me.

It will be a big challenge to land a satisfying lap, for me it is a big challenge to just stay on the track, so don’t try to go fast! Take it slowly at the start, turbo at 80% for example, (yeah, right!) use plenty of early brakes, (no, even earlier,) always drive through the corners, go softly with the throttle in 2nd gear and build speed gradually. Phew!

RSR? Ha! Once again eXistenZ is top of the RSR with a 1:19.294, Pretend racer (currently on hols) is in 8th with a 1:21.450, although this week is more about learning the car than busting records. Least, that’s what I’m saying!

Three tyre sets available, recommended pressures are:
    ….Street ‘90 & Street Tyres - Front 37psi / Rear 35psi
    ….Semislicks - 33psi all round

A quick early go, think it was lap 4, where I hung on all the way round, miles away from an ideal line in many/ all corners, but it felt as though I had tried a bit.

As I try to justify in the intro, it's not our favourite track. It's a rarely used circuit though and this car makes it much more interesting. Even exciting in places! And bumpy.
Also, I think the RSR is reachable. I'm only a touch over two secs off..., and not yet fully in control.:)

Driving through the last few turns - Zampini, then into and through the Esses - is like trying to run along a greased tightrope after four martinis.

  17. Obviously, that's a crazy idea!:D:D
As you know, three martinis is sufficient... one never has four. :)
Four makes life very awkward, you won't even need the greased tightrope!

About five restarts before getting through the first turn. Five more to figure out the next.

Hi there, nice lap times everyone! Try to position the car as straight as possible coming out of the corner to give it max traction for the straights ahead.
It is such a beast and no way to stop it.

Even though I am currently battling a hefty fever and I should be in bed, I gave this one a quick try. There is more time in there, but I just cannot give it 100% as for now.
