Car:Audi Sport quattro
Track: Laguna Seca





As you all know we are trying to use every car available in AC and we are getting close to the end of the list. I wanted a car that was a little different from what we have been driving lately and I really like a sloppy road car so I chose the Audi. Even though she's a little long in the tooth she's capable of creating some giant sh1t eating grins! The ridiculous amount of suspension travel makes for a great off road rally car, but it requires a high degree of finesse to convince it into becoming a race car, which (for me) is much more satisfying than having a computer fix all the mistakes I'm making like what happens on any modern car with tc, and stability control, and whatever other computer controlled devices they have.






Well Laguna Seca is about as close to a rally course as we can get with the tracks that are available without getting into mods, so I had no choice but to pick it. It seems Hugo and I had very similar thoughts about the Audi rally cars and which tracks would suit it. This is what he said when he posted WHC 71 which perfectly sums up how I feel too.


It had to be Laguna Seca,it really had.It allows using some oversteer/understeer on some corners,which is great for rally cars.How about throwing this on the corkscrew?Originally i wanted to do it on Zandvoort,but we used that one two weeks ago.Highlands was also an option but i truly belive that Laguna Seca is perfect for this type of vehicle.Sliding this car on corners will obviously make you loose some time but it's well worth the fun.Also,did i mention "throwing this on the corkscrew"? But,if we had the beautifull roads of Sintra,that's were the challenge would take place!
Oh,and by the way,special kuddos for anyone who tries this on "dusty" conditions


The ideal tire psi for the vintage tires is 45psi all around. If you like the street tires you should put 37 psi all around, and if you want to use semi slicks you should have 35psi all around.



Up until I did a couple laps of testing, the RSR WR for this combo was set at 1.44.313. I happened to best it by a little bit but there's still lots of room for improvement.

To enter, select Hotlap, choose the Audi Sport Quattro and the Laguna Seca Circuit
Please setup the session as shown below:
Mode: Hotlap
Ambient Temp: 26 Degrees
Setup: Time of day: Free / Controller: Free / Assists: Free / Stability: Free
To qualify you must have the ambient temp set to 26 DegC.

Deadline: Sunday 5th of April 2020
Chequered Flag will drop shortly before 6pm.

You can run as many laps as you like and update your times as often as you like. It is all about taking part, pushing yourself and enjoying Assetto Corsa. All Platforms are welcome. To submit a time, pause the game and select 'session' from the menu and screenshot this page or take a photo of your screen and post it in this thread - Note all the information from the screen is required including temperature, mode heading and of course the car being used!

Requesting a Neilski!
Few laps to still not get the tyres right.
Rainey Curve, the double left after the Corkscrew, is really tricky.
The front axle, completely resistant to the idea of a new direction, stubbornly ploughs straight on. You wait. And wait!
It's probably best to hug the inside kerb and get a good exit, rather than hero it, attempting a scando flick at 70mph.

It's advanced planning. You really have to set the car up for a corner and you either get it perfect or it's rubbish!

 

I couldn't resist and had another go this afternoon. I'll attach my setup that I used so everyone can give it a try if they want to try and upset Totals Neilski attempt


The original setup was downloaded from the setup market and I didn't adjust much other than fuel and psi. I think its a setup meant for the nurburgring and was posted by 7182413659 (or something like that).

If I could tweak it for me, I'd probably try to dial out some more understeer but that's probably not possible. I should also tweak the camber settings a bit because my tire temps are a little out of whack. The reason I know this now is because I came across this little youtube series. Its really well done and I think you all might be interested in it. I'm sure I could do a few more things as well to get my laptime down a bit.

Took many laps to get used to this vehicle. Not sure I have my setup optimized either, but it was good enough for a decent time. Surprisingly good fun once I got a hold of it!

Good old manual, I just love these old cars, they feel fantastic - great combo. Hopefully, if AC2 ever comes out we will see a lot more variation of cars - like a realistic Gran Turismo

Setup at the end of the vid.

The terrible brakes takes some getting used to, and the crazy amount of nose dive when you hit the brakes is also kind of unsettling. But with very smooth inputs this car can be quick. Laguna Seca is not an easy course to set a good laptime on, there's just too many places where its really easy to mess it all up. I'll be doing a few more laps to tweak my setup and perfect my lines.
Still having fun trying to figure this one out.

This one is growing on me. Such a ponderous engine - flooring it in neutral, it seems to take forever to spool up - but a lovely sound
I think I might squeeze another half a second out of it if the lap goes just right but a 41 is likely to be beyond me...

Wow! We got all the weekend warriors out and there's no signs of arthritis or male pattern balding, or reading glasses anywhere on track because all these Old Men have no fear of this combo! There is already quite a few battles setup on the leader board with multiple positions being decided by less than a tenth!!

I hope everyone has some time to watch the setup videos as they have helped me a lot. I'm hoping that we may get a few more people posting setups in the WHC's because the more setups that are available, I'm hoping that will help everyone get a little faster a little quicker.

We have had a few new entries so I'd like to thank them for contributing. I hope we have been welcoming and that you will not only continue to contribute so please bug all your friends to come have a go, the more the merrier!

 

The set-up videos by Chris Haye are excellent. No more random fiddling for me, I now have a process!
Now, to find the patience and consistency to test each change, one at a time....

This is the crib sheet that Haye's provided. Its a quick and dirty bunch of directions on how to tackle the handling issues your having. Hopefully it will save a bunch of time because you won't have to do as many trial and error laps to figure things out.

Since you guys are talking about setup, I set diff front and back to 1. Camber -2 all around and adjusted PSI. That's it.
