The ghosting made things worse because they assumed they can drive through instead of being cautious. Very confusing and distracting.

 

It was mentioned in the briefing, people who didn't know didn't pay attention or didn't attend the briefing

 

If turning them off lap 1 may as well leave them off all race, it would be just as silly IMHO. I really hope this feature isn't forced on us and can be completely disabled in servers including warmup lap ghosting. If people cant run a warmup lap without hitting others then they have little hope of running next to others without hitting everyone, the lap 1 thing though is such a terrible approach.

Maybe add a safety car VSC to deal with big incidents more likely at the start of races, the way it is in ACC that if cars are spinning ahead everyone behind just does all they can to avoid losing too much time which often can lead to making a small incident a big one. If there is a safety car added then make people go back to the positions they were in before the incident and if people know that a safety car will be out they will likely avoid pilling into the pack. This will also allow people that get taken out lap 1 to drive back to the pits repair the car and resume at the back of the pack not be entirely out of the race and so need a silly ghosting feature to avoid losing a big chunk of the field in the first lap.

Great race....didn’t think much of the 1st lap ghosting but apart from that thought it went pretty well....great how the real teams and drivers have got behind it

 

That was really nice. In many ways this is more entertaining than watching ohysical races.

 

Fight last laps for places 2,3 and 4 was nice too watch.

 

Nice to see they didnt ghost lap 1 for the silver race.

Seriously, do you actually follow any of them on social media? GT World Challenge, Intercontinental GT Challenge, SRO, Assetto Corsa, and a ton of the teams have been practically spamming this event and the schedule all over Instagram, Facebook, etc. They have even been sharing eachothers posts back and forth.

They did the same thing for the Monza charity race. IMO I like it, because these guys aren't sim experts, and in sim racing everyone gets a bit crashy. If you watched the first round of GT World Challenge America GT Rivals, they did not use that feature, half the field wrecked. Sure its realistic for consequences, but made for a boring race as a ton of cars were 1-3 laps down within the first 10 minutes of the race.

This was discussed after the Monza Charity Challenge, they specifically said it will only be used for these types of events as they will have stewards watching the whole thing and can penalize for egregious behavior manually.

 

Very enjoyable but they have to sort out the sound, the car and track atmosphere is non existent, overpowered by the commentators. Would be great to have a proper broadcast overlay and replay feature for incidents too.

 

Yep, if it was me, I'd hand out manual 5 second penalty for anyone merging into car in front for more than half. Or something similar, like no front axle of trailing car in front of rear axle of the leading car.

 

They probably should have a couple practice races, or at least force the less experienced guys to go race online and get a feel for it. They're all fast obviously, so they have to be in control somewhat. Not hard after that to not wreck half the field Lap 1, surely they can be somewhat patient

 

They have been holding multiple practice races and open test sessions for these guys to run. If you search SRO in the server list you will see them, obviously password protected.
