1. Do you need support for Assetto Corsa Competizione? Please use the proper forum below and ALWAYS zip and attach the WHOLE "Logs" folder in your c:\users\*youruser*\AppData\Local\AC2\Saved. The "AppData" folder is hidden by default, check "Hidden items" in your Windows view properties. If you report a crash, ALWAYS zip and attach the WHOLE "Crashes" folder in the same directory. Do not post "I have the same issue" in an existing thread with a game crash, always open your own thread. Do not PM developers and staff members for personal troubleshooting and support.
  2. As part of our continuous maintenance and improvements to Assetto Corsa Competizione we will be releasing small updates on a regular basis during the esports season which might not go through the usual announcement process detailing the changes until a later version update where these changes will be listed retrospectively.
  3. If ACC doesn't start with an error or the executable is missing, please add your entire Steam directory to the exceptions in your antivirus software, run a Steam integrity check or reinstall the game altogether. Make sure you add the User/Documents/Assetto Corsa Competizione folder to your antivirus/Defender exceptions and exclude it from any file sharing app (GDrive, OneDrive or Dropbox)! The Corsair iCue software is also known to conflict with Input Device initialization, if the game does not start up and you have such devices, please try disabling the iCue software and try again. [file:unknown] [line: 95] secure crt: invalid error is a sign of antivirus interference, while [Pak chunk signing mismatch on chunk] indicates a corrupted installation that requires game file verification.
  4. When reporting an issue with saved games, please always zip and attach your entire User/Documents/Assetto Corsa Competizione/Savegame folder, along with the logs and the crash folder (when reporting related to a crash).

Generic Weekly Hotlap Challenge 182 - Get the Existential Experienz

Discussion in 'Console Lounge' started by Totall Wrytoff, Jun 6, 2020.

  1. Welcome to the thread for the Weekly Hotlap Challenge 182 – Get the Existential Experienz!

Thanks very much indeed to a special guest this week, for taking the time to choose and input to this challenge, for the benefit of us all.
Can you rise to his challenge and up your game like GoodGame…?

    Challenge: Hotlap
    Car: Mazda MX5 ND
    Track: Nordschleife

So what would the extravagantly talented eXistenZ, our undisputed, resident hot-shoe, pick for a WHC challenge? Any car, any track….

Well, it’s simple. The challenge is about pure driving - a focus on your inputs and the response, rather than being distracted by set up.
Aero, ride height, ARB, springs and dampers? Forget them this week and just concentrate on driving better.
Here is what GoodGame.eXistenZ says and just reading this will make you faster; the words will stay in your mind as you drive….

    N
ot so many years ago, I wondered how can this person be so quick in this car? It is impossible! I think if I am doing a lot of things right, why am I still 5 seconds off? It must be the setup! I need to have that right, so I can beat him.
Those were my thoughts a few years back when I started with Assetto Corsa.
I did simracing for a few years before that and I really started to become serious about improving, learning all the tracks, learning how to get the most out of each car. I practiced the Nordschleife a lot, usually in the Lotus Elise SC. Just to really get each corner into my head. I did not have a clue about setup in AC either, so I just went to the track… to drive.
After some time, I managed to beat the current world record with the Lotus Elise SC. It was a 7:42 or so for the Tourist layout. Man, how happy I was. Now, the record (set by GoodGame) sits at 7:31.7. Ten seconds less.

Where does all the time come from?
Sure, there is setup, but the options in the Lotus were limited. Track conditions & and weather, sure, they also contribute.
But what is much more important?
The skill, the training, the memory of each corner, the car and how it behaves - these play a huge role that especially beginners in sim racers tend to overlook.
It is astonishing, how often I am asked to share setups. While usually, I do not mind, I wish they would listen to my words: Forget about the setup, do everything else first. Then we talk.

    - A guy asked me if I could give him my setup for the 787B for the Nordschleife.
I asked him what his time was.
6:52 or so. (That is 50 seconds off the WR!!)
“Listen, I can give it to you, but it will not help you.”
He came to me the next day: How can you drive this? I wanted to say: “Try to be 10 sec off the WR first and come back to me.”

    So, what is my message?
I will give you the most honest tip I can give you: Go out there, learn the track, learn the cars. Learn how to be fast in slow cars.
This is the procedure that will make you fast, no setup in the world can give you the brain that makes you fast.
It is practice and learning (some talent aside maybe.)
It is about starting off slow and going from there.
Do not be afraid to be 2nd, or 40th.
As long as you learn, you will see your improvements over time and that is something that will help you in any sim. Remember the 10 seconds? Someday you will be able to look back and do all the quick laps in your sleep.

I picked this combo because I want you to see that even on a base setup you can make up a lot of time, when you learn how to drive fast.
Be smooth on the inputs, keep the flow - you will understand ;).
With this car and combination you can drive at the limit while still enjoying the car and the track. Due to the weight transfer, this car is perfect to practice how to keep speed through the turns. Do not look at your lap time. Do a lap and repeat - look back and smile about your improvements! ”
    upload_2020-6-6_17-58-3.png
The Nordschleife - 20.8km or 12.9 miles, with 33 corners turning left and 40 going right, up and down a 300m elevation change.

Back a few years, I was scared of the Nordschleife. How can I remember all those turns?!
As above, drive! The reason why I like this track so much is because it is really unique in the world. Maybe, one of the last remaining challenges in motorsport.
It has such a perfect flow to it and it has everything a racer can dream off - high kerbs, corners with banking, fast straights, high speed corners and very slow corners, but always maintaining a perfect flow - unlike Monza (my opinion) or other start/stop circuits. So, when you drive the Nordschleife you can learn a lot, because it basically has all types of corners at all kinds of speed. There is not a single corner that feels the same.
And again, what you will learn here is something you can carry over to other tracks. So the time invested is not wasted. You master the Nordschleife, you master 80% of corners that there are in this world .
Here is a video of my lap:

I wish I could do another video to explain the track to you. (Ed: You can!)
I am currently running in two GT3 Series and I am a little short on time, so I cannot promise anything. But, from the video, you will see that being smooth is key. Do one movement on the wheel, keep the flow of the track. That is what makes you fast - not the setup!

So, RSR Best for the Mazda MX5 ND around the Nordschleife Circuit is 8:30.126.

    Tyres and recommended operating pressure:
    ..Streets 35 psi
    ..Semislicks 29 psi

I really hope you will enjoy this combo and you have fun learning, when you are still new to simracing.
    BR

Got under the 9 minute mark, lets see what the rest of the week brings and where we're at this time next week.

You have plenty of time to think in this car, perhaps too much time :p

I attack the first third of the track, drive the second third and hang on, clenched-up, for the final third.

Like running along a tightrope, the longer you go on, the more likely it is you fall...:D

I like GoodGame's idea of doing two laps, to take away the self-imposed pressure.
But 16 mins without a crash? At the Nordschleife?:p:D

    Hey guys,
I really hope you will enjoy this combo. The MX5 is really easy to control, but maybe very difficult to drive fast. Slow cars don't allow for any errors ;) Please have fun out there.

Nice combo to train but I already know I'll be far, far, very far from most of you on that track! :(

If this doesn't bring everyone out to play then nothing will. :)

    This is Assetto Corsa.

    ----

I've been playing the TT game a lot recently.

It's a nice change to come back to short circuit racing.

    :)

The combo is excellent and the car is nice to drive. Changes from my last week's outings into Nascar

Wow, some pretty quick times coming in there!
I've never been a huge fan of the Nords, mainly because it's so long and I've never learned it properly (and it's hard to learn precisely because it's so damn long).
I do recognise that there are some great bits on it though so maybe this is my opportunity to learn a bit more... and I'm also fond of the MX-5, despite it being a bit on the slow side.
However firstly I have an appointment with a certain Lotus! :D

Sorry for the updates. I simply kept saying, just one more go

Drove the living daylights out of that thing!
