1. Do you need support for Assetto Corsa Competizione? Please use the proper forum below and ALWAYS zip and attach the WHOLE "Logs" folder in your c:\users\*youruser*\AppData\Local\AC2\Saved. The "AppData" folder is hidden by default, check "Hidden items" in your Windows view properties. If you report a crash, ALWAYS zip and attach the WHOLE "Crashes" folder in the same directory. Do not post "I have the same issue" in an existing thread with a game crash, always open your own thread. Do not PM developers and staff members for personal troubleshooting and support.
  2. As part of our continuous maintenance and improvements to Assetto Corsa Competizione we will be releasing small updates on a regular basis during the esports season which might not go through the usual announcement process detailing the changes until a later version update where these changes will be listed retrospectively.
  3. If ACC doesn't start with an error or the executable is missing, please add your entire Steam directory to the exceptions in your antivirus software, run a Steam integrity check or reinstall the game altogether. Make sure you add the User/Documents/Assetto Corsa Competizione folder to your antivirus/Defender exceptions and exclude it from any file sharing app (GDrive, OneDrive or Dropbox)! The Corsair iCue software is also known to conflict with Input Device initialization, if the game does not start up and you have such devices, please try disabling the iCue software and try again. [file:unknown] [line: 95] secure crt: invalid error is a sign of antivirus interference, while [Pak chunk signing mismatch on chunk] indicates a corrupted installation that requires game file verification.
  4. When reporting an issue with saved games, please always zip and attach your entire User/Documents/Assetto Corsa Competizione/Savegame folder, along with the logs and the crash folder (when reporting related to a crash).

Generic Weekly Hotlap Challenge 184 - Drifters Duel

Welcome to the thread for the Weekly Hotlap Challenge 184 – Drifters Duel

This idea for this week’s challenge, as with most weeks, is to try to totally contrast with last week’s (mega) challenge! So, this week, it is lots of tire shredding sideways action under the Spanish sun. The German gunslingers are in town and Barcelona is only big enough for one German Drift Master. Who will be left standing once the smoke clears?

    Challenge: Hotlap
    Car: BMW M3 e30 drift and/or
    BMW M3 e92 drift

    upload_2020-6-20_9-26-52.png
    upload_2020-6-20_9-23-59.png

    Track: Barcelona GP

I think one of the hardest skills to master is the art of detecting the absolute limits of traction while maintaining control and speed. That's why I like to drive overpowered rear wheel drive cars that rely on the driver to finesse the speed out of the beast. When you get it right you feel like a hero :D and when you get it wrong you still come out of the unintended epic sideways drift  with a huge smile on your face :) and maybe a little patch of wetness on your pants :p!

Barcelona has some of the best drifting corners of all the vanilla AC tracks, and the BMW's are the best drifters. With the stock setup both cars are evenly matched when it comes to laptimes, I wonder if there will be another virtual trophy awarded this week? ;)

Does it really take 30 years of technological progress to be able to burn rubber? Both cars are BMW's, and they are both M3's, but they feel totally different. Lightweight, low power vs technology and more power. What do you prefer?
Either way, both cars respond well to smooth and progressive inputs, and the smoother you can be, the faster you will go. The long sweeping curves really give you time to concentrate on dancing that line between grip and drift while your applying the throttle. Finesse is key.

Bonus Internet Points for anyone who posts any epic drifts, or saves, or who can match my feat of literally blowing up the rear tires in a drift! Check out the sparks in the mirror! First time that has ever happened to me - kinda proud of myself :D

I was able to set the WR on RSR in both cars during testing. 2min 08seconds is the current target. I'm sure that with a setup designed more for racing than drifting the times will be faster. Please share your tunes!

  3. Great sounding combi @Pretend racer !

    Vid made me laugh.
Running on the rims doesn't appear to affect the complete lack of traction.:)

I'm off to fire up and see if this is a skid fest!:D

I did 5 laps in each last night. Slightly reduced fuel only.
Wow, this challenge is massively different to last week!

So the cars run to equal times then, eh?
In that case, I'm not posting the time I got in the E30 and I'm having another go!!

Interesting combo - is this a drift or a hotlap challenge :D ? Luckily the track is well known - I just could not find the time to learn the track for WHC 183. :( Would have been something to have the best drifter competition here^^. I suck at drifting - never done it.:D:eek:
So, the stock drift cars have way too much camber, so I reduced both values F/R by about 50-75%. I wish the M3 E92 would have been H-shifter right from the start, it makes it so much more enjoyable...

    We don't mind.;)

  7. I've got a souvenir to share, relevant to this post and that I hope, with his obvious pathological hatred of rubber, our host @Pretend racer would approve of.

I used to have an E90 M3, here is a piece of delaminated and shredded rear tyre that I keep on my desk. (pen for size ref)
    upload_2020-6-21_16-25-30.png
I had a driving coach day in my car at Bruntingthorpe (old UK airfield now used for speed testing etc) which, you would think, would brilliant fun.
It was about going really fast and understanding oversteer.
But it left me in deep trauma and very, very unpopular at home!

The set of newish rear tyres I had arrived on, had vapourised within 30mins. (Makes a nasty, alarming flapping sound and you stop v. quick!)
"Fair bit of power in this beastie" the instructor murmured, "I bought a spare set for you, just in case."
My fear started. There was such a long day still to go, with a three hour drive home afterwards.
The second set of rear tyres lasted for nearly an hour!
At lunchtime we had to drive to the nearest shop and buy TWO more sets for the afternoon. :)eek: (That was NOT my idea, it was his!!)
We stopped driving early and I just made it home on the second set. The next morning the fifth set of rear tyres in two days were fitted.
    £285 a pop.:D Literally.
    Gutted. Never again.

Footnote - The AC version of the M3 is sooooo wrong. Completely not right.
I had a manual, which evidently has different gear ratios to the semi. 3rd would take you to 105mph and the sound was just "go for it!" utterly fabulous!
I had a few "ten tenths" drives in the Highlands.
When you were on it, the car came up on it toes, and I haven't the words to describe just how much of a Driving-God it made you feel... but trust me. The memories are vivid scintillating. (A940 Forres to Grantown, late one sunny afternoon.... I get goosebumps.)
    What. A (nice family.) Car!:)

@Totall Wrytoff 5 sets of rear tires  Next time you should buy a set of blue or red neon smokers which costs 1/3 of those roadgoing ones. Bloody lord, an expensive day out o_O Luckily I drive a FWD :D

LadyTW is in fact responsible, and 've been very lucky in breadth and depth, for one of THE best experiences I've ever had in a car. And I wasn't driving, I was a passenger.
