This week is a tribute to Lewis Hamilton.
F1 World champion in 2008, 2014, 2015, 2017, 2018, 2019 and 2020.
What can you say about that race in Turkey to clinch it? Seven times world champ!

So what on earth to choose as a tribute WHC?

Track first. What (from the circuits we have) is LH’s favourite?

I think it is Spa.
In August this year Lewis Hamilton said: “I love driving round this track, it’s incredible,” (28th August 2020)
And during an interview in 2011:
"It's a place where you really feel on the limit and that's pretty awesome…. I always look forward to coming back here. Corners like Eau Rouge, Pouhon and Blanchimont are fantastic, just because they're so fast. Pouhon, in particular, is incredible because you're really at the limit of the grip level and you're gently playing with the throttle and trying not to scrub off too much speed with the steering. Getting it right is always an amazing feeling." (August 2011)
It is Schumi’s favourite too: "Spa has always been my number one racetrack, since my debut." (Michael Schumacher 26th August 2011)
So Spa it is.

The car is a McLaren P1.
I’ve been having a look around Lewis Hamilton’s garage:
He's got: (only listed similar cars to AC) a McLaren P1, Pagani Zonda 760, 1966 Shelby Cobra 427, Ford Shelby Mustang GT500 “Eleanor”, Ferrari 599 Aperta, Mercedes AMG GTR or Mercedes SLS AMG.

We’ve already done the Cobra at Spa, Lewis crashed his Zonda (in Monaco!) and apparently said it’s the worst handling car he’s driven. We could use the SLS AMG, but I reckon Lewis, if pushed to choose only one, would take the P1 to his track day at Spa.

Spa is a long circuit, but the 903bhp P1, unsurprisingly, makes short work of it. Acceleration between 80mph and 160mph, if you have time to check, is just cool! The steering is hyperactive. I was having several bites at a smooth turn in and it’s easy to understeer because you’ve applied too much lock. Needless to say Eau Rouge is very tricky.
Don’t forget, you’ve got DRS and a KERS boost button to use too, although I believe the latter is dependent on the Driving Mode chosen.

Congratulations Lewis Hamilton, seventh heaven!
All the hard work pays off!
You do your sport and your country proud and even if it is just the highlights, we’re lucky to be watching.


Stats, Tyres and Times:
Hypercar Road or Hypercar Trofeo tyres, Trofeos will be faster, recommended hot pressure for both are:
Front: 30 psi Rear: 32 psi
Fastest lap around Spa in the P1 is 2:18.452, which is quick!

Ginetta is a specialist brand with a great racing heritage so this is no road going supercar with a few race parts bolted on, but an out and out race car. With its short gear box it may be hopelessly outgunned on circuits with long straights, but it is light, nimble and stops on a dime so perfect for the smashing through the curbs and chicanes of Zolder!”

I got the GT4 dlc when it first released and this is the first time out in one. Really enjoyable, but lots to work out versus the GT3’s, at the mo I’m a little slow for me, and it feels it with wrong braking points, missed apex’s. It’s going to be fun working this out this week - goal will be the low 38’s for me.
