1. Do you need support for Assetto Corsa Competizione? Please use the proper forum below and ALWAYS zip and attach the WHOLE "Logs" folder in your c:\users\*youruser*\AppData\Local\AC2\Saved. The "AppData" folder is hidden by default, check "Hidden items" in your Windows view properties. If you report a crash, ALWAYS zip and attach the WHOLE "Crashes" folder in the same directory. Do not post "I have the same issue" in an existing thread with a game crash, always open your own thread. Do not PM developers and staff members for personal troubleshooting and support.
  2. As part of our continuous maintenance and improvements to Assetto Corsa Competizione we will be releasing small updates on a regular basis during the esports season which might not go through the usual announcement process detailing the changes until a later version update where these changes will be listed retrospectively.
  3. If ACC doesn't start with an error or the executable is missing, please add your entire Steam directory to the exceptions in your antivirus software, run a Steam integrity check or reinstall the game altogether. Make sure you add the User/Documents/Assetto Corsa Competizione folder to your antivirus/Defender exceptions and exclude it from any file sharing app (GDrive, OneDrive or Dropbox)! The Corsair iCue software is also known to conflict with Input Device initialization, if the game does not start up and you have such devices, please try disabling the iCue software and try again. [file:unknown] [line: 95] secure crt: invalid error is a sign of antivirus interference, while [Pak chunk signing mismatch on chunk] indicates a corrupted installation that requires game file verification.
  4. When reporting an issue with saved games, please always zip and attach your entire User/Documents/Assetto Corsa Competizione/Savegame folder, along with the logs and the crash folder (when reporting related to a crash).

Better quality LODS and shadows!

    I can't overemphasis the difference this has made in the LOD and shadow quality of my AC. Thanks to some investigative work by forum member matt2380 and his shadow map settings outlined in this post: Anybody know how to tweak shadow quality?

    AssettoCorsa/system/cfg/graphics.ini
    SHADOW_MAP_BIAS_0=0.0000000001
    SHADOW_MAP_BIAS_1=0.0000000001
    SHADOW_MAP_BIAS_2=0.0000000001

    To quote matt2380 and my own post on that thread...
    - Removes the ugly transitions between shadow maps and increases detail of distant shadows... which nearly completely negates that funny "chasing shadow" effect on guardrails and walls.
    - Fully removes the gaps between objects and their shadows (very noticeable on guardrails and walls).
    - Has no FPS impact (for me at least)... in fact, replays seem to be far more smooth now, partly because...
    - *GETS RID OF THE ANNOYING COCKPIT SHADOW LOD CHANGE* In fact, I can't see LOD switches in replays at all now.
    - Improves shadow quality overall, and with a few exceptions just make shadows look "right".

    I have yet to find something game-breaking with these settings. The cost for all this is so minimal, you'd be insane not to try them. As I said in my post, you still need AA (preferably SGSS) to reduce pixel crawl and shadow flicker, these settings aren't perfect and they don't FIX shadows, but they make one hell of an improvement. I still see the occasional flickering jaggie shadow on cars, signs, etc. but WOW. My AC has never looked better. The reduction of annoying cockpit shadow/LOD switches alone is worth it.

    Does it increase draw distance of the shadows?

    Just finished a nurb run with the changed settings. The LOD is definitely not swapping on the car. Im almost certain the shadows have much better draw distances now but my pc isnt the greatest so it could be sharper. FPS impact minimal to none but I was solo on my run.

    nope

    this trick have a conseguence BTW the car shadow with very low FOV cameras during replays

    here an exemple with stock lod 3 values this is the result (look at the bumper)

    I still struggle to understand why there isn't a variable for the shadow distance. Surely there must be a value for it somewhere?

    it's not Directx limit :rolleyes:
    Shadow distance can be set usually during programming, but it is not free. Further shadow distance will cause general pixel density decrease.

    Agreed, one drawback I have noticed is car shadows tend to be overall more striped/pixelated with these settings. But I'm willing to trade that for the rest of the benefits (we'll see how long that lasts before the car shadow striping drives me nuts lol) :D

    Highly recommend this shadow fix/workaround!
    Surprisingly zero fps hit on my weak *** outdated gtx570, I am using 'high setting' for shadows.
    Thx @Chazz Ranger

    A drawback that you should be aware of is that on the edge tangent to the light direction you'll start seeing artefacts, because lowering the bias basically reduces the offset of the shadow from the shadow caster.

    Yes, there are some drawbacks, but much less noticeable compared to that annoying LOD's popping

    It depends, Popping lods happen always in far distances, shadows artefacts are everywhere instead. It's one of the countless compromises you as a graphics developer have to choose between.
