1. Do you need support for Assetto Corsa Competizione? Please use the proper forum below and ALWAYS zip and attach the WHOLE "Logs" folder in your c:\users\*youruser*\AppData\Local\AC2\Saved. The "AppData" folder is hidden by default, check "Hidden items" in your Windows view properties. If you report a crash, ALWAYS zip and attach the WHOLE "Crashes" folder in the same directory. Do not post "I have the same issue" in an existing thread with a game crash, always open your own thread. Do not PM developers and staff members for personal troubleshooting and support.
2. As part of our continuous maintenance and improvements to Assetto Corsa Competizione we will be releasing small updates on a regular basis during the esports season which might not go through the usual announcement process detailing the changes until a later version update where these changes will be listed retrospectively.
3. If ACC doesn't start with an error or the executable is missing, please add your entire Steam directory to the exceptions in your antivirus software, run a Steam integrity check or reinstall the game altogether. Make sure you add the User/Documents/Assetto Corsa Competizione folder to your antivirus/Defender exceptions and exclude it from any file sharing app (GDrive, OneDrive or Dropbox)! The Corsair iCue software is also known to conflict with Input Device initialization, if the game does not start up and you have such devices, please try disabling the iCue software and try again. [file:unknown] [line: 95] secure crt: invalid error is a sign of antivirus interference, while [Pak chunk signing mismatch on chunk] indicates a corrupted installation that requires game file verification.
4. When reporting an issue with saved games, please always zip and attach your entire User/Documents/Assetto Corsa Competizione/Savegame folder, along with the logs and the crash folder (when reporting related to a crash).

I guess we should use default setups? (changing tyres from slicks on hyper cars ofc).
What about the grip? I remember way back Aris suggesting green for the 'Ring, then after V10 update he said that we should use more grip (98 iirc). I'm wondering what "should" we use now for LS.
Considering that the P1 rl lap time was 1:30.7 and in AC it can do 1:28s with 97% grip, with optimal grip it will be probably ~3s faster than irl.

Sounds like fun though.

Edit:
http://fastestlaps.com/tracks/laguna-seca-post-1988

11. 1:37.43 - Lap time in the video.

Default Setup (no changes), 29C, Optimum Grip
1:37.76 on lap 3 of a 5 lap run. I figure a handful of laps, or less, is all that he gets in the vids.

Of course aliens will be a couple seconds faster (at least) so lowering the track grip level to green or something is probably more realistic.

12. Also, temperature? I'm thinking around 29C should be about right.

Did 10 laps (counting outlaps, practice mode) in the MX-5. Default setup with street tyres and no TC, no tyre blankets, 26C, 100% grip then fixed 96% grip.
RL - 1:50.68
100% - 1:47.73
96% - 1.49.45

I noticed that I'm able to brake later than Randy in the video and much later in Corkscrew. But he said that he was a bit surprised with the brake fade, that won't happen in AC...

Edit: 8 laps in the 458
same settings as above, also street tyres.
RL - 1:36.22
100% - 1:35.92
96% - 1:37.68

Edit: SLS
only changed temp to 29C
RL - 1:38.82
100% - 1:37.32
96% - 1:39.16

A couple more.

Although this video might seem like it doesn't belong (it focuses on the Viper ACR and Corvette Z06 which aren't in AC), there's a lap from a 991 GT3 RS in the beggining.

16. It's worth noting that the drivers drive rather conservatively in a lot of these videos.

Most of these videos come from the annual "best drivers car" competition, Randy Pobst has to drive up to do hotlaps on up to 10 cars a day, so it's pretty much get in, do the best that you can, get out.

With that said he posted a faster lap then Bernd Schneider did with the SLS, that surprised me a great deal.

Nah, I'm glad he didn't post times...encourages people to watch the videos, study the car lines, listen to Randy's commentary, etc.

Hey guys, happy new year, glad to do a first post on a driving thread!

During Laguna Seca development a beta tester pointed out that the circuit should have less grip (so all hail the anonymous beta tester). As a matter of fact, if you do a simple google research, you're going to find thousands of articles describing the difficult grip conditions of the circuit on any event.
Here's an example directly from Michelin: http://michelinmedia.com/michelin-helps-teams-grip-slippery-surface-monterey-grand-prix/
From the above, and many other articles, it seems that not only Laguna Seca has a pretty low grip surface, but the same surface changes a lot during an event, even during a single session in a single day. So it is difficult to say "here put the grip at dusty, or green, or whatever and you'll have a similar grip", as it is also difficult to know what kind of conditions the track was, when Randy did every single lap.
Also, again as you guys said and from personal experience when we try cars in a circuit. You get a brand new car, you can do some laps, usually not consecutive and you really can't do tons of laps one after another. You push the limit but you stay comfortable. Randy is certainly a much better driver than me, but I can understand if he doesn't push 110% every time. The track also is technical and fast so... double points of fearsome XP :D :D

So the answer is? I don't know. I believe that as you guys doing, playing around fast, green, slow, can give close enough results for the first 5-10 laps. After that, this is a circuit that being able to try and try and try again without fearing for the consequences, makes you gain lot's of time, so comparisons stop being very accurate. You can go through Turn 6 many times without fear of breaking the car on the inside kerb or on the outside gravel, until you nail it. Massive gains. You can also fly through the corkscrew without fear of scraping the hell of the car at the exit. And so on...

But still, I can see initial laps are pretty close, so... not bad huh? :)

The only time I went there, the wind was blowing quite hard. I guess that it makes the drivers' task even more complicated.

Yeah T6 and Corkscrew are the main reasons I don't want to do more than 4 laps (outlap + 3 hotlaps) on each grip setting. Even when I switch the grip level and it's just 7th lap in total I have much more confidence to push harder in those turns and like Aris said gains are massive there. Also trying not to cross the kerb in T6 since we have some tarmac there and in videos there's sand. In the 458 video Randy even kicked up some of the sand there.

Not to mention that we don't have to worry about crashing the car, just hit back to pits if something goes wrong. Overheating engine or brakes? No problem.

In the SLS video he upshifts in 3 or maybe event 4 places when in the sim I'd just keep it in the gear and only before one turn it would hit the rev limiter for a brief second before braking.

Oh wind is a good point. I didn't use it in my laps.
BTW I think that wind impact on performance in AC may be a bit too big. But guess it's one of the tricky things to get "right".
