1. Do you need support for Assetto Corsa Competizione? Please use the proper forum below and ALWAYS zip and attach the WHOLE "Logs" folder in your c:\users\*youruser*\AppData\Local\AC2\Saved. The "AppData" folder is hidden by default, check "Hidden items" in your Windows view properties. If you report a crash, ALWAYS zip and attach the WHOLE "Crashes" folder in the same directory. Do not post "I have the same issue" in an existing thread with a game crash, always open your own thread. Do not PM developers and staff members for personal troubleshooting and support.
  2. As part of our continuous maintenance and improvements to Assetto Corsa Competizione we will be releasing small updates on a regular basis during the esports season which might not go through the usual announcement process detailing the changes until a later version update where these changes will be listed retrospectively.
  3. If ACC doesn't start with an error or the executable is missing, please add your entire Steam directory to the exceptions in your antivirus software, run a Steam integrity check or reinstall the game altogether. Make sure you add the User/Documents/Assetto Corsa Competizione folder to your antivirus/Defender exceptions and exclude it from any file sharing app (GDrive, OneDrive or Dropbox)! The Corsair iCue software is also known to conflict with Input Device initialization, if the game does not start up and you have such devices, please try disabling the iCue software and try again. [file:unknown] [line: 95] secure crt: invalid error is a sign of antivirus interference, while [Pak chunk signing mismatch on chunk] indicates a corrupted installation that requires game file verification.
  4. When reporting an issue with saved games, please always zip and attach your entire User/Documents/Assetto Corsa Competizione/Savegame folder, along with the logs and the crash folder (when reporting related to a crash).

Generic Weekly Hotlap Challenge #135 – Maz, Madge and Jinba Ittay

Discussion in 'Console Lounge' started by Totall Wrytoff, Jun 30, 2019.

  1. Welcome to the thread for the Weekly Hotlap Challenge #135 – Maz, Madge and Jinba Ittai.
It’s also the start of a new, four week Mini-series, “Convertibles.” It’s summer time, so it’s time to get the roof off. For the next month we’ll be getting our hair into the wind, two of us, at least, will be giving our pates a polish:D and we’re going to enjoy a bit of open top motoring.

    The Challenge: Hotlap
    Car: Mazda MX-5 ND
    Track: Magione
    upload_2019-6-30_21-23-13.png
    upload_2019-6-30_21-23-21.png
This week we are giving the Mazda MX-5 ND its first WHC outing around the Autodromo di Umbria.
After last week this might feel sedate, but trust me, it’s a bit of a breather. For no particular reason I have planned a very large scale, open-top test for the week after this.

And in fact, this is an absorbing minute and a half’s worth of challenge. I am genuinely surprised at just how excellently the little Mazda corners and how benign the chassis is. I’m no drift fan, I don’t like it, but within a couple of laps I was leaving the back end to come round for me into the corner rather than trying to catch it.
This is what Jeremy Clarkson says. “The fact is that if you want a sports car, the MX-5 is perfect. Nothing on the road will give you better value. Nothing will give you so much fun. The only reason I’m giving it five stars is because I can’t give it fourteen.”
There doesn’t seem to be an RSR time for this combi either, so go and break the record.

ND denotes the name of the front/mid-engine rear drive platform used in this fourth generation MX-5. The MX-5 has been around for ages. It first appeared in 1989 and was intended to be the spiritual successor to the British 2 seater sports cars of the 60s.
More than 20 years before the MX-5 was launched, in 1976, an American and importantly, Japanese speaking journo met senior Mazda engineer Mr Yamamoto (btw, developer of their Rotary engine) and said:
“…the simple, bugs-in-the-teeth, wind-in-the-hair, classically-British sports car doesn't exist anymore… somebody should build one, an inexpensive roadster.”
And so the process started, but, the “chocs away chaps” style had to be swapped for the spirit of the Samurai. The MX-5 designers were instructed to focus on and closely follow the mantra of the Japanese mounted archers, the Yabusame. (At this point, you should bow and say “Ahh, so-des-ka.)
The mantra of the Yabusame is “Jinba Ittay.” For us gayjin, that means “the oneness of horse and rider.”
The mantra has been adopted by Mazda as their design credo. Honda must be gutted.
It seems to have worked too. In 2000, the Guinness Book of World Records declared the MX-5 the best-selling two-seat sports car in history, with a total production of 531,890 units. By 2016, MX-5 sales exceeded one million cars.
In 1984 Mr Yamamoto was made President of Mazda and in 1987 he was made Chairman of Mazda.

Magione is a comune in the Province of Perugia, right in the middle of Italy and on the eastern shore of Lake Trasimeno. The town was home to a pilgrim house (called a magione) built in the Middle Ages by the Knights Templar. Autodromo di Umbria, dedicated to the memory of local Italian racing legend Mario Umberto Borzacchini, is flat, flat, flat, but it has a good mix of corners, a decent straight and a tight, testy technical section.
    upload_2019-6-30_21-30-14.png
The Mazda is good fun around here. The car responds beautifully to the helm and is a delight to steer. The 2 litre, in-line 4 with double overhead cam sounds like it’s going to be weedy but when you’ve just over 1,000kg to punt along, it’s not at all. It’s rorty, torquey and with the nose turning into the corners so well, it has plenty to overwhelm the rear, if you’re not inclined to measure your thrust. Turn one, Curva del Traliccio will have you tempted to hang the tail out and Curvone, at the end of the straight, after a couple of laps, is four-wheel-drift-at-speed country. So revel in the scalpel-sharp poise and precision of this brilliant little machine and enjoy bringing your laps times down.

The tyres are either Street tyres, recommended pressure is 35psi all round, or Semislicks at a surprisingly low 29psi all round.

How to take part - Hot lap:

My Dad owns an MX5. He's in his 70s but fancies himself as a bit of a driver and says this is the nearest thing he can get to the sportscars of his youth.

I teased him mercilessly about it being a hairdresser car and that he looked like a poof in it.

"Convertibles are for good looking women to look stylish in, not for old blokes to get sunburnt baldy heads" said I.

"You don't understand" He retorted. "You don't know what it's like to drive in the open; to feel the wind blowing around you"

At this point I had to remind him that I ride a motorcycle. If he ever manages to get his barbermobile up to 140mph and then stick his head up above his windscreen, then I might start listening to him.

It is a nice car thougb. :) I'll have to send him the link to this challenge.

I'm looking forward to comparing my time to whl 51.

TC off. I don't see much much difference. It's pretty stable. Playing a bit with settings but I am not sure if I am messing up the car or improve it.

  8. Well spotted Moodyryder – I nearly called the Challenge “Plagia-rone at Magione.”:)

Weekly Hotlap #51 - Back to Basics, October 2017, was the Miata at Magione, Graveltrap knows what he is doing and it was long enough ago, IMO. It was his penultimate WHC before handing over to Moodyryder.
    At the time StyleF1re said:
The Miata is obviously slower and much less fun than the MX-5 ND… the fastest time in WHl #51 was a 1 min 33.663 secs by OriginalR6Kid.
Daniel Perez was second with a 1.34.1 and Pretend racer was third with a 1.34.3.
    Moodyryder finished a very respectable 10th out of 21 entries, with a 1:35.700, StyleF1re was 11th, 1:35.727 and Laughing Gravy 12th with a 1:36.400.
    Hopefully you'll all be quicker!:D

Changed the toe to negative all round, not sure if it helped. Had 2-3 tenths in hand, but floundered it with a clumsy last section.
Anyway, it keeps ET on his toes.:D
