1. Do you need support for Assetto Corsa Competizione? Please use the proper forum below and ALWAYS zip and attach the WHOLE "Logs" folder in your c:\users\*youruser*\AppData\Local\AC2\Saved. The "AppData" folder is hidden by default, check "Hidden items" in your Windows view properties. If you report a crash, ALWAYS zip and attach the WHOLE "Crashes" folder in the same directory. Do not post "I have the same issue" in an existing thread with a game crash, always open your own thread. Do not PM developers and staff members for personal troubleshooting and support.
  2. As part of our continuous maintenance and improvements to Assetto Corsa Competizione we will be releasing small updates on a regular basis during the esports season which might not go through the usual announcement process detailing the changes until a later version update where these changes will be listed retrospectively.
  3. If ACC doesn't start with an error or the executable is missing, please add your entire Steam directory to the exceptions in your antivirus software, run a Steam integrity check or reinstall the game altogether. Make sure you add the User/Documents/Assetto Corsa Competizione folder to your antivirus/Defender exceptions and exclude it from any file sharing app (GDrive, OneDrive or Dropbox)! The Corsair iCue software is also known to conflict with Input Device initialization, if the game does not start up and you have such devices, please try disabling the iCue software and try again. [file:unknown] [line: 95] secure crt: invalid error is a sign of antivirus interference, while [Pak chunk signing mismatch on chunk] indicates a corrupted installation that requires game file verification.
  4. When reporting an issue with saved games, please always zip and attach your entire User/Documents/Assetto Corsa Competizione/Savegame folder, along with the logs and the crash folder (when reporting related to a crash).

Generic Weekly Hotlap Challenge #141 – Be a Kerb-Hunter!

Discussion in 'Console Lounge' started by Totall Wrytoff, Aug 11, 2019.

  1. Welcome to the thread for the Weekly Hotlap Challenge#141 – Be a Kerb-Hunter!

Please note, for this week’s WHC, the ambient temp needs to be set to 17degC.

    The Challenge: Hotlap
    Car: Porsche Cayman GT4
Track: Silverstone GP - at 17degC
    upload_2019-8-11_18-40-35.png
    upload_2019-8-11_18-40-50.png
The Porsche Cayman GT4 deserves one of the classic circuits and after trying the options we have, the Silverstone GP Circuit was/ is a no-brainer.
Porsche introduced the Cayman in 2005 and immediately gave themselves a problem. The 911 is the top of their range of cars, but this is a car that has evolved from a far from dynamically perfect original. The Cayman was a fresh design, allowing Porsche to optimise the weight distribution and dynamics. But the Cayman couldn’t be a better car than the flagship 911, so Porsche didn’t give it the grunt it deserves. Until 2015, when they finally gave us the first generation Porsche Cayman GT4, called the 981.
Porsche simply took the six cylinder engine from the 911 Carrera S, the 3.8 litre, “Powerkit” version, which revs to 7800rpm, produces a sweet 380bhp and connected it to a six-speed manual transmission. They dropped the ride height by 30mm, used the brakes from a GT3, stiffened and lightened and fitted a limited-slip differential.

So how does it feel around Silverstone? I would say “absolutely peachy!”
For instance, revel in its balance and precision from Maggot’s through to Chapel, the rasp of the flat six then ripping you up Hanger Straight until the utterly delightful, exquisite feeling of a perfectly executed Stowe corner. A touch of trail braking in towards the late apex, the car comes up onto its toes, the nose coming onto line and you bring on in the power, precisely measuring thrust, as the corner opens for you to hook it all up… immediately, ready to just do it again!
    upload_2019-8-11_18-41-43.png
Silverstone GP is a classic. But the number of days in the last century where the ambient temp has hit 26deg on this exposed and windswept place could probably be counted on one finger. So I’ve gone for a more realistic 17 degC.

It’s certainly one of my favourite circuits even though I always struggle to get a good time here. I have to confess, I’ve been lucky enough to have track tuition around this circuit, with a (very brave) instructor in the passenger seat of my car. After my first lap, he turned to me and said:
“I want you to be a kerb-hunter!” Use more of the road and some of the bits to the side of it!
I needed my car to still be working the following day so I mostly ignored that.:)
    upload_2019-8-11_18-46-47.png
The Cayman GT4 runs on Cup 2 tyres, Assetto Corsa calls them Semislicks, which seems to be a catch-all. Recommended pressure is 31psi at the front, 33psi for the rear.

How to take part - Hot lap:
To enter, select Hotlap, choose the Porsche Cayman GT4 and the Silverstone GP circuit. Please setup the session as shown below:

Almost exactly one second slower than I was in real life, although I fluffed 2nd to 3rd through Club on the best lap.
I'm going for a sunny day next, I haven't seen that shade of dark blue on the tyres before!

I used Schnipp's tune for silverstone, modified the fuel and psi. Love these "real life" combos. If I won the lottery I'd be driving this car on this track on this very track one day. Super fun car to drift around the track, makes you feel like a hero.

How is it with an H pattern? I don't have a shifter set and I used auto blip, so I'm wondering if a car like this is actually faster with a shifter and clutch than with paddles.

  17. Just under FIVE HOURS later...:D
I'm a plug and play man, I really am.
Fanatec supply none of the Allen keys or screws to attach stuff and there was an awful lot a bad language during the attempts to update the firmware.... but:
    Here is the updated rig!
    upload_2019-8-12_19-13-8.png
I've had a very quick go. First thoughts: the wheel feel is so much better, but I need some time with it. The shifter is immediately utterly fantastic. That's a joy. The pedals also, immediately feel so much better, much more real.
Off to have a proper go now.
Has anybody got any tips with regard to the multitude of settings? I'd love an Assetto Corsa configuration suggestion!:D

  18. Interestingly, the new 718 Cayman GT4, with a manual six speed trans, has an “Auto Blip” option to automatically match the gearbox and engine speeds when you downshift. Heel and toe too old fashioned?

I'll do a back to back with the shifters vs H-box.:)

Great fun with a proper gearbox, using clutch and heel toe, really adds to the immersion. :)
I never had a wheel without an H shifter so have no idea about pace with / without auto blip.

    Slight improvement ;)

@LeiF - I thought it was a paddle shifter too. Switched over to H pattern and did yesterday's laps. I switched to paddles today and did these laps which were faster but I would hesitate to attribute it to the shifter. More familiar w track and changed some setup parameters so several variables in play. I prefer H shifter though as I seem to have more control on deceleration based on how much blip you give on downshift. I flat shift it though....foot to the floor, stab the clutch and slam it into the next gear in the blink...two blinks of an eye! However, I have it on the RHSide. If on the left, it would not get used as my left hand is not used to doing much of anything! I have a 2:21.xx in sight...but the cat has decided to get in amongst my feet so time for lunch I guess!
