1. Do you need support for Assetto Corsa Competizione? Please use the proper forum below and ALWAYS zip and attach the WHOLE "Logs" folder in your c:\users\*youruser*\AppData\Local\AC2\Saved. The "AppData" folder is hidden by default, check "Hidden items" in your Windows view properties. If you report a crash, ALWAYS zip and attach the WHOLE "Crashes" folder in the same directory. Do not post "I have the same issue" in an existing thread with a game crash, always open your own thread. Do not PM developers and staff members for personal troubleshooting and support.
  2. As part of our continuous maintenance and improvements to Assetto Corsa Competizione we will be releasing small updates on a regular basis during the esports season which might not go through the usual announcement process detailing the changes until a later version update where these changes will be listed retrospectively.
  3. If ACC doesn't start with an error or the executable is missing, please add your entire Steam directory to the exceptions in your antivirus software, run a Steam integrity check or reinstall the game altogether. Make sure you add the User/Documents/Assetto Corsa Competizione folder to your antivirus/Defender exceptions and exclude it from any file sharing app (GDrive, OneDrive or Dropbox)! The Corsair iCue software is also known to conflict with Input Device initialization, if the game does not start up and you have such devices, please try disabling the iCue software and try again. [file:unknown] [line: 95] secure crt: invalid error is a sign of antivirus interference, while [Pak chunk signing mismatch on chunk] indicates a corrupted installation that requires game file verification.
  4. When reporting an issue with saved games, please always zip and attach your entire User/Documents/Assetto Corsa Competizione/Savegame folder, along with the logs and the crash folder (when reporting related to a crash).

Generic Weekly Hotlap Challenge #147 – Tibor kísértése - Go To Kart.

Discussion in 'Console Lounge' started by Totall Wrytoff, Sep 22, 2019.

  1. Welcome to the thread for the Weekly Hotlap Challenge #147 – Tibor kísértése - Go To Kart.

As we come up to the 150th Anniversary of the WHC, we are going to be celebrating the milestone with a series of challenges chosen in co-operation with those who have played a significant role in the WHC, The Legends of WHC!

Quick reminder to all, please could you include your name and format as described below when posting your times.

    The Challenge: Hotlap
    Car: KTM X-Bow R
    Track: Laguna Seca
    upload_2019-9-22_18-16-1.png
This week’s Challenge revives previous co-operation with a WHC legend and I’m hoping it might tempt him back! “Tibor’s temptation,” in Google’s best Hungarian! The Challenge is my choice of car, at his favourite circuit. Or, one of them. I had to choose between three. For the choice of car, I have a sneaking suspicion that a KTM would be sitting alongside a Panamera in his fantasy garage. It’s one of my favourite cars in the game too. We have used the KTM only once, waaay back in WHC#9, which was over two and a half years ago! Forty drivers entered @Graveltrap ‘s “Short but Sweet” event back in November 2016, one of the biggest WHC gatherings, so I’m hoping….

KTM developed the X-Bow in collaboration with Kiska Design, Audi, and Dallara. Originally, KTM had planned to produce 500 units per year, but almost immediately had to double that to 1,000 a year and then build a new plant near Graz due to the enthusiastic demand. It’s not just me that likes it. The X-Bow R was introduced in 2011, three years into production, and featured a host of tweaks including lowering the position of Audi’s TFSI engine in the chassis and giving it a larger turbocharger, reprogrammed Bosch engine management and new fuel injectors.

The KTM X-Bow R is so hot on its offer of no-frills motoring, it is almost a Go-Kart. It’s raw, immediate and direct. Unless you’re doing more than 124mph, there’s no aero to speak of, no power steering, no TCS, no ABS and no flappy-paddles to help you. There’s no weight either, it weighs just 790kg and in the ‘R, the 4 cylinder, 2 litre turbo is tuned to produce a nicely balanced 300bhp and 300lb/ft of torque. In fact, you might think that sounds slightly unbalanced and after last week, you may find it a bit twitchy, with nothing like the grip. But, once you’ve dialled into it, the KTM is on your side around the track. You build up your pace and confidence grows. Turn-in sharpens at speed, slicing the KTM through the corners with the car pivoting directly beneath you, but careful, it’s so easy to get carried away!
    upload_2019-9-22_18-16-58.png
And as you’re sitting there, carving across apices, slotting gears and trying not to watch the front pushrod suspension do its thing, the engine note urges you to the red line with a race-car like blare. This is why the KTM X-Bow R is absolutely excellent. I hope you approve, a jó barátom!:)
    upload_2019-9-22_18-17-12.png
We are in California! Laguna Seca is now known as the WeatherTech Raceway Laguna, is just over 2.2 miles long with a 55 m elevation change. You’ll be looking to carry some serious speed through the circuit’s open curves and concentrating hard on keeping the car pointing in the right direction.

Two of WHC’s leading drivers appear on the RSR timing sheet for this combi – the fastest time is a blistering 1.30.771. Suffice to say, of the two, I hope one will be defending his time, the other looking to find another 1.7 secs! And of course, the man we hope to tempt back, perhaps passing both!! :D For the rest of us, anything faster than a 1.34 gets you into the top 20. Visors down and gun it!

We’re back to slippery Semislicks this week.
Recommended pressures are 31psi front, 32psi rear.

  4. SWEET!

Why? Because apart from having not spent enough time appreciating Kunos’ replication of the awesome Laguna Seca, the KTM has always been my go to ‘scouting car’ every time I’m trying to get to know a new track.

*not saying I’m in any way shape or form fast with it though.

A few early laps to destroy the confidence, then pitted to sort the tyre pressures. Quick tip? - up 2/3 psi at front and 1/2 at the rear, over the recommended.
That made things easier, here we go to start.
Not going to take up @LeiF 's Sunday night challenge this week, he's gone big boy!:D

I love those car v bike features, but in this case I think the biker was being very generous, just to stay in shot! He should have been through T1 and gone!

Who's the mad nutter on the bike? Watching that gave me bike-and-track fear again!!:D

Lowered the rear, took off some rear camber and took the toe out. Nearly one sec better and should have been a 33.
BTW, it's six weeks since the new driving hardware arrived and I've shed most of the G29 habits and starting to feel the benefits.:)

Been a long while since I've driven on my sim rig, especially a/c. I am beyond rusty and have no setup for this car or time to set it up but here is a time anyway. Hope everyone has been well. Wish I had more time to participate like I used to.

  11. Mind sharing what this G29 habits are, sir? I think I might've missed the initial discussion.
I used to drive a T150 which gas pedal springs subsequently broke, so I then upgraded to the G29 with shifters and all (it was the cheapest package available with all the peripherals). Having tried both, I do feel like the Thrustmaster with its hybrid belt+gear drive offers more minute resolution in terms of feedback, especially round the center. It was better at communicating the early stages of the car's rear stepping out.
Would be interested to learn what kind of bad habits I need to watch out for.

  12. You did! (WHC 141, page 1:))
I got a Fanatec CSL wheel, shifter and Clubsport pedals in for my birthday in August. There is quite a difference and having used Logitech for so long (20yrs!), the Fanatec took/ is taking some getting used to.
I could go on for pages!
Principally the two main differences are braking and turning in, and both are to do with "feel."
With the G29, I had got used to taking a "couple of goes" to turn in - the point at which the G29 wheel starts to have an effect, away from the the centre, is very vague. So I was turning in, feeling the effect of the input and then adjusting, almost like two goes at turning in. Now, I can smoothly apply the right amount of lock, like one does in a real car!
The braking is transformed. The Clubsport pedals are sooooo feelsome, so for braking, the modulation that Pretend racer was referring to last week, is much easier to manage and it's much easier to avoid locking the wheels. I'm still playing with the settings because you can adjust the pedal pressure.
I have to say, the G29 is excellent for it's price point, but wow, the game has moved on!
Do PM me if you want to discuss, I don't want to bore everyone rigid on the forum!!:)

Missed out on this car the first time round so thanks TW for using it again.
Once I get used to it and stop sliding and wheel spinning on every corner I might improve a little bit more.
Managed to get down from 1.37.8
I really struggle with this track but I’m slowly remembering it from the last time we used it.
I most definitely ain’t getting any where near Andy R’s incredible 1:30.7 on RSR. Wow!!

So many videos and opinion about whether or not better equipment makes you faster. In my opinion, with my short time of experience, I have to say better equipment yields faster laps times and most importantly better consistency. From starting on a g920/29 setup and moving to the thrustmaster tcxw the difference is night and day. WHC 127, pagani at old monza, I set my fastest time with thrustmaster setup. Went to my buddies house that weekend and went back on the old rig I started on (g920) and couldn't even get within a second of my time from thrustmaster/pc rig. My opinion from this observation is based on evidence. Sure the pedals absolutely SUCK on my thrustmaster rig (the brake pedal is terrible conical mod or not). I am still faster from the increased/better feedback through the wheel. I know for a fact if I upgraded to a load cell pedal set I would be even quicker than I am now even with minimal practice since it is just more realistic than trying to memorize pedal travel points (ridiculous method, god bless if you can do it, I can not). Sorry for thread jacking, just had to throw my 2 cents out there..if you think you're fast on g25/27/29 setups even with your pedal mods..give a go on a proper pedal and wheel set and i can almost guarantee after you adjust, you will be faster. Gregor huttu is an anomaly so dont even bring him up lol.
