1. Do you need support for Assetto Corsa Competizione? Please use the proper forum below and ALWAYS zip and attach the WHOLE "Logs" folder in your c:\users\*youruser*\AppData\Local\AC2\Saved. The "AppData" folder is hidden by default, check "Hidden items" in your Windows view properties. If you report a crash, ALWAYS zip and attach the WHOLE "Crashes" folder in the same directory. Do not post "I have the same issue" in an existing thread with a game crash, always open your own thread. Do not PM developers and staff members for personal troubleshooting and support.
  2. As part of our continuous maintenance and improvements to Assetto Corsa Competizione we will be releasing small updates on a regular basis during the esports season which might not go through the usual announcement process detailing the changes until a later version update where these changes will be listed retrospectively.
  3. If ACC doesn't start with an error or the executable is missing, please add your entire Steam directory to the exceptions in your antivirus software, run a Steam integrity check or reinstall the game altogether. Make sure you add the User/Documents/Assetto Corsa Competizione folder to your antivirus/Defender exceptions and exclude it from any file sharing app (GDrive, OneDrive or Dropbox)! The Corsair iCue software is also known to conflict with Input Device initialization, if the game does not start up and you have such devices, please try disabling the iCue software and try again. [file:unknown] [line: 95] secure crt: invalid error is a sign of antivirus interference, while [Pak chunk signing mismatch on chunk] indicates a corrupted installation that requires game file verification.
  4. When reporting an issue with saved games, please always zip and attach your entire User/Documents/Assetto Corsa Competizione/Savegame folder, along with the logs and the crash folder (when reporting related to a crash).

Generic Weekly Hotlap Challenge 164 – Learning Curves

Discussion in 'Console Lounge' started by Totall Wrytoff, Feb 1, 2020.

  1. Welcome to the thread for the Weekly Hotlap Challenge 164 - Learning Curves.

This week's challenge is all about using the superb precision and feedback from the Formula 4 Tatuus, to dissect in detail, analyse and learn the nuances of the Silverstone GP circuit. Time to refine your line.

    Challenge
    Hotlap:
    Car: Tatuus FA01
    Track: Silverstone GP

Spring is coming! The tarmac is warming up and in a couple of weeks the sound of Formula 1 engines will reverberate across a valley in Catalunya. That’s exciting. After weeks of saloons, I have an urge for the purity and simplicity of a single seater.
And Silverstone. Did someone say “I want Silverstone” recently? I’ve thought about nothing else since. Along with “Sequential.” There’s a discussion thread on this in the lounge. I hope they come and enjoy.

To share the complex combi selection process - the spontaneous, urge-suppressing mid-week idea was, “get back to basics in the Tatuus.” But, we used the car relatively recently, in WHC 142. (Aug ’19) The Ferrari stable offers a number of single seaters, but not the ideal choice of steeds for early (ie: gentle) pre-season warm-up. Lotus, typically, (Dany Bahar!) has a couple of wrong’uns, the Exit and Exit Step 1. But, the bonkers, misplaced, utterly incomprehensible, C. Chapman-spinning Exit idea by Lotus leaves a ghastly taste in the mouth. I did a few test laps around Silverstone in the no-stepped Lotus and it’s fast and frantic. Not pure and simple. In comparison, the Tatuus is twenty seconds slower, but twenty times more satisfying. And it has a sequential gearbox, which I find hugely amusing. The unusual, clutch-less sequential change gives me a massive co-ordination problem. I find my left foot subconsciously depressing the brake pedal as I go to change gear! After nearly 40 years of pushing my left foot down as my left hand touches a gear stick, I’m now trying to make new and unfamiliar synaptic pathways instinctive. Or put more simply, my brain doesn’t work very well.

Of course you will have carefully read and remember my intro post for WHC142, where I told you all about the Tatuus. If not here is a quick re-cap:
The The Tatuus FA010 is a Formula 4 racing car. Tatuus is an Italian chassis manufacturer approved by the FIA to supply Formula 4. The Tatuus FA01 is a carbon composite monocoque with an inline, 4 cyl, 1.4L turbo, which delivers around 200hp and 250Nm (184lb/ft) of torque. The car weighs under 500kgs without driver. Luckily that’s not a factor here! Transmission is via a sintered, twin-plate clutch, a sequential six-speed gearbox and Limited Slip Diff.

    The Silverstone GP Circuit.
    It’s legendary.
For the unwary, it can and will completely devour the pads and discs of your road car in less than 5 laps. And I mean so completely, you’re looking for a lift home….
Silverstone full Grand Prix Circuit is where things get serious, it is where the big boys play, it is the senior school of circuits. It is a proper test. People are all very serious. I wanted to run the Ruf round here…. Ho ho at that thought!

So the scene is set. It is “big boy” practice time. The Tatuus is just sweet. It is precise. Surface detail and driving nuance is sharply highlighted. You feel you need to keep the engine on the boil, the brakes will lock if you are clumsy, but it is a delight to position accurately, which you will have plenty of time to do, compared to the Exit and very rewarding in the way is allows you to perfect the craft of shaving tenths. Too early, or late, on the brakes, steering wheel or throttle and the fluff is amplified. The car shouts about the tenths you’ve just lost. You feel, in acute detail, where you have fluffed and therefore exactly what you should do next time. At each turn of each lap you will be slowly tightening the line, honing and improving by noticeable margin. It’s very satisfying. A dab of brakes on the way into Abbey becomes a just a lift-off, next lap it’s down to just a hover… is it flat…? It is absorbing, more-ish and challenging, with a the added twist of new co-ordination skills to master, for some.
To set-up the Tatuus to your exact preference, simply have a look at the link below.
    http://www.csai.aci.it/fileadmin/documenti/workshop-manual.PDF

RSR times…? Hmmm, leaves a bad taste etc and not sure it is now of any relevance.
The fastest time (shown) is a 1:58.4.
    GoodGame.eXistenz will have done a 1:57 or 1:56 then…
Pretend racer who set a time in October last year (?) is down in 24th place with a 2:00.679.
Normal people and those that have just changed FOV and those switching from console to PC will be between a fairly wide range of 2:05s to 2:15s! Those that have done both… has his work cut out!

Tyres are slicks, Soft, Medium and Hard compound with a recommended pressure of 25 psi all round.

I'm terrible at setting up and driving these single seaters. Not looking forward to this one. I dont know how to properly download a tune and extract it in the proper file..cant figure it out so this is a trash lap with my own foolish tune.

This is the tune I used in October to set my PB. I downloaded it from the setup market app and modified it a bit to suit me - generally I just adjust fuel levels, and correct the tire psi so its always green when I'm racing.
If you have gotten the setup market app then you should be able to access these tunes while in the game.

I recommend tuners like Labbe and Schmidt for road cars. Ryno's Raceroom, Roberto Olivetti, and 71698765976234 for race cars. They generally provide good quick tunes that are easy to fine tune.

If you just want to "upload" my tune then open your Documents - Assetto Corsa - setups - Tatuusfa1 - silverstone.
Then copy and paste my ini file into the folder I just mentioned. It should appear in game after that.

Hope that helps.... I stopped attaching the actual setup file because noone seemed to need it, which is why I make sure to include my setup in the vids. But I can attach my setups like this if you prefer.

So for this laptime I used Steve Smith's tune and modified the tire psi, fuel and brake pressure. When I used the tune I had posted earlier it didn't feel right - too much downforce, the tire psi's were out of whack and I was slow. I think the track conditions must have been quite a bit different than what we use.

Then I tried the Smith's tune. It handles way better but the gearing is different (it would be interesting to see if the gearing in ryno's raceroom tune would improve Smith's tune - but I didn't try it). I made a few mistakes in this lap but I still managed to slightly best my previous PB so thats good enough for me.

Huge thank you to @Pretend racer for explaining everything. Made perfect sense and now I know where to look for setup tips. I took the setup from your last post and just tweaked a few small things for my inabilities haha. Now it's a matter of improving my line, braking and turn in points to find more time!

    I always struggle with silverstone.
The 2 corners before the 1st long straight and then the bit before the 2nd long straight always seems to be a problem for me to get right.
It’s one of those tracks were I think I’m doing ok and nailing all the corners but then I don’t seem to be able to improve by the end of the lap.

I'm always very grateful for your setup files, and I suspect most of the PC crew also welcome them. The console gang will I'm sure be glad if you keep showing the setup in your videos ;)

I’ve noticed that consoles are missing a few settings with dampers and I think with the suspension.
Also some of the figures are different on the bump, fast bump etc on console compared to pc.
