1. Do you need support for Assetto Corsa Competizione? Please use the proper forum below and ALWAYS zip and attach the WHOLE "Logs" folder in your c:\users\*youruser*\AppData\Local\AC2\Saved. The "AppData" folder is hidden by default, check "Hidden items" in your Windows view properties. If you report a crash, ALWAYS zip and attach the WHOLE "Crashes" folder in the same directory. Do not post "I have the same issue" in an existing thread with a game crash, always open your own thread. Do not PM developers and staff members for personal troubleshooting and support.
  2. As part of our continuous maintenance and improvements to Assetto Corsa Competizione we will be releasing small updates on a regular basis during the esports season which might not go through the usual announcement process detailing the changes until a later version update where these changes will be listed retrospectively.
  3. If ACC doesn't start with an error or the executable is missing, please add your entire Steam directory to the exceptions in your antivirus software, run a Steam integrity check or reinstall the game altogether. Make sure you add the User/Documents/Assetto Corsa Competizione folder to your antivirus/Defender exceptions and exclude it from any file sharing app (GDrive, OneDrive or Dropbox)! The Corsair iCue software is also known to conflict with Input Device initialization, if the game does not start up and you have such devices, please try disabling the iCue software and try again. [file:unknown] [line: 95] secure crt: invalid error is a sign of antivirus interference, while [Pak chunk signing mismatch on chunk] indicates a corrupted installation that requires game file verification.
  4. When reporting an issue with saved games, please always zip and attach your entire User/Documents/Assetto Corsa Competizione/Savegame folder, along with the logs and the crash folder (when reporting related to a crash).

Generic Weekly Hotlap Challenge 168 – Low level flying

Discussion in 'Console Lounge' started by Totall Wrytoff, Feb 29, 2020.

  1. Welcome to the thread for the Weekly Hotlap Challenge 168 - Low level flying

Two weeks ago we were driving Le Mans 24hr spec machinery from the ‘60s. This week we move forward nearly fifty years - can you spot the difference. No, that’s too easy. How about, try to spot any sort of similarity at all!

    Challenge
    Hotlap:
    Car: Porsche 919 Hybrid 2015
    Track: Black Cat County Long
    upload_2020-2-29_17-58-27.png
    upload_2020-2-29_17-58-37.png
Neither this track, nor Hybrid LMPs are popular on the WHC.
We have used Black Cat Long only once, in one hundred and sixty seven WHCs.
Regarding the hybrid LM Prototypes It is fair to say that they are more complicated than a computer. (We are in Console Lounge.)
To get the best out of the hybrids - to get fastest lap possible - requires that you understand, then optimise, your recovery and strategy for re-use of this stored energy as you try to drive as fast as possible around the circuit. It’s a challenge.
So why are we doing this combi? It was proposed by one of the legends of WHC a few months ago, so well worth trying out. I did and here it is. I drove the first few laps with my chin on the floor! Wow! Recalibrate!

The speed across the ground, enhanced by the cockpit view, is pure fighter jet territory. You feel calm and relaxed in the cabin as you enter a turn at 130mph, click the paddle and exit at over 170mph, with the engine murmuring away quietly behind you. Surreal.

A quick refresh on what’s providing such astonishing motivational force. Firstly, a very modest 2 litre, V4 turbo, that Porsche manages to get 500bhp from, (along with decent fuel economy and and 24hr reliability!)

Secondly the hybrid bit; there are two separate energy-recovery systems – one that recovers thermal energy from exhaust gases and one that converts the kinetic energy from braking into electrical energy for storage into lithium-ion battery packs. The official figure for the hybrid power output is 294bhp.

So a total of 794bhp, with instant max torque and the car weighs 870kg.
    upload_2020-2-29_17-59-45.png
Tactics for the 919 at Black Cat County Long? Even using Low Preserve you won’t make it around the circuit. It runs out on the hill up towards the Stone Arch and you feel the loss of thrust. So, a better tactic might be to deploy it manually, but this takes more self-control than I have. In testing, I had used all of the juice before even getting half way. Somebody clever would probably use charging with manual for part of the track and perhaps a bit of Low Preserve for another.
Whatever the case, there’s plenty to play with!

The 919 comes in a choice of 3 liveries - The No. 17 car is red as a tribute to Porsche's first overall victory at Le Mans with the 917 in 1970.
No. 18 is in black to “showcase the close technical similarities between the 919 Hybrid and the 918 Spyder.” (Well done marketing? Who got that?)
No. 19 is white, the national colour of German race cars and also Porsche’s racing cars.

Lap timewise, back in October @Pretend racer clocked a 3 mins 10.980 secs…

Recommended pressure for all tyre compounds is 35psi.

You have clearance from the tower!

Well, if @GoodGame.eXistenZ isn't going for world domination here, I am!
First few laps and I'm just 2/10ths behind the RSR best, with a couple of errors, as you'll see in the vid.
I used a mix of the engine modes... I could go a sec or two faster....

    Holy moly that’s addictive.
Gonna wait till someone posts some potential improvement settings before going for a time though. It’s ridiculous though. The speed ..
Threw in a couple of 3.14’s hopefully this will improvement with more laps getting the circuit learnt. That first bit with the rocks , left right left no the other left !!

The World Lap Record is mine!!:D
The first time I've ever been ahead of @Pretend racer :)

A sub three mins is easily possible, for the faster drivers... On this lap I selected Neutral at 9&10 and had nothing underfoot on the exit. That's a second gone.:)

Thanks 365, just steered and held my breath. Flat out from turn 2 to turn 5, with just a very slight lift for turn 4 (chicken) is exhilarating and takes building up to, as do turns 12-15.

Left it in hotlap mode. Only used manual boost before the start line on lap 1. I've run out of juice at the bumpy bit round the back.

Only changed MGU to hotlap & front wing to 5.

So much time to gain up the hill if it's managed correctly.

I'll leave that to the professionals. :)

  14. Here is a bit more info on the ERS and engine modes, specific to the Porsche 919s, from Aristotelis:

"The Low setting uses less battery at higher speeds/gears
The High setting uses more battery at higher speeds/gears
The Preserve from Aggressive setting, changes how torque is transferred to the front wheels, depending on their slip and thus using more or less battery and heating/wearing more or less the front tyres. Obviously the aggressive setting will give faster lap times but put the front tyres in more stress as well as consume more battery/energy per lap."

    Also:

"ERS deployment is most effective when coming onto quick sections as you accelerate faster and you increase your average speed which is where you gain lap-time"
    ----
I suspect judicious, manual deployment is fastest. Needs vast reserves of self control though.:)

The world record is mine again!
Going for an over-nighter with it.

It'll be Friday before I try again. This round goes to you Sir.

It's an unusual combination. I like Black Cat though and I've enjoyed this car with it. The bumps in the middle have my wheel shaking the desk like crazy.

Fast corners in a downforce car and close to barriers. It's good.

Despite TW's introductory sales pitch, "here's a car no one likes on a track everyone hates", this is quite good.
Unfortunately it will take me a week just to figure out the car. [IMG]
