1. Do you need support for Assetto Corsa Competizione? Please use the proper forum below and ALWAYS zip and attach the WHOLE "Logs" folder in your c:\users\*youruser*\AppData\Local\AC2\Saved. The "AppData" folder is hidden by default, check "Hidden items" in your Windows view properties. If you report a crash, ALWAYS zip and attach the WHOLE "Crashes" folder in the same directory. Do not post "I have the same issue" in an existing thread with a game crash, always open your own thread. Do not PM developers and staff members for personal troubleshooting and support.
  2. As part of our continuous maintenance and improvements to Assetto Corsa Competizione we will be releasing small updates on a regular basis during the esports season which might not go through the usual announcement process detailing the changes until a later version update where these changes will be listed retrospectively.
  3. If ACC doesn't start with an error or the executable is missing, please add your entire Steam directory to the exceptions in your antivirus software, run a Steam integrity check or reinstall the game altogether. Make sure you add the User/Documents/Assetto Corsa Competizione folder to your antivirus/Defender exceptions and exclude it from any file sharing app (GDrive, OneDrive or Dropbox)! The Corsair iCue software is also known to conflict with Input Device initialization, if the game does not start up and you have such devices, please try disabling the iCue software and try again. [file:unknown] [line: 95] secure crt: invalid error is a sign of antivirus interference, while [Pak chunk signing mismatch on chunk] indicates a corrupted installation that requires game file verification.
  4. When reporting an issue with saved games, please always zip and attach your entire User/Documents/Assetto Corsa Competizione/Savegame folder, along with the logs and the crash folder (when reporting related to a crash).

Generic Weekly Hotlap Challenge 175 - Homage to El Mastro

Welcome to the WHC#175 thread! This week will also be a double challenge. Due to the worldwide pandemic, I figured why not. Let us take our minds off of everyday problems and spend a little more time in the good 'ol days chasing some lap times. I hope everyone is healthy!

In 1954 Maserati introduced the 250f to compete against the likes of Ferrari and Mercedes in Formula 1. Originally planned to be sold mainly to privateer drivers, a very special driver from Argentina by the name of Juan Manuel Fangio took the helm for the 1954 Formula 1 season. @TotallWytoff had previously mentioned the netflix documentary “A Life of Speed: The Juan Manuel Fangio Story”. I highly suggest watching it to learn about one of, if not the, greatest F1 driver ever. I want to focus on this post being mainly about the machine he used in the 1954 and '57 seasons. The Maserati 250f was not developed in a wind tunnel and did not have the most horsepower. It did however win its first two races entered in the '54 season with Fangio behind the wheel. Overall, 8 total race wins out of over 270 it was officially entered in. The 250f was equipped with the A6 SSG 2.5-litre 12v DOHC straight 6 engine fed by three Weber carbs combusted under twin spark plugs per cylinder, which put out anywhere from 220-270bhp. In '54 power was sent through a 4 speed h-pattern gearbox, which moved on to a 5 speed for the '57 season. I have to shed light on the pedal arrangement used in the 250F during this vintage era. The pedal configuration for both of these transmissions was with the pedals set in the “continental” fashion (clutch, throttle, brake). Just imagine for a minute...visualize the speed these vehicles were capable of and implimenting race pace with the pedals arranged in that order. The brakes were ribbed 13.4" drum brakes. Front suspension incorporated wishbone independent coil springs, Houdaille hydraulic dampers, and anti-roll bar. The rear was equipped with the DeDion axle, transverse leaf spring, Houdaille hydraulic dampers, and anti-roll bar. The 250f weighed 670kgs in the early '54 iterations, dropping to 630kgs for the '57 model, and had a top speed of around 180mph (figures depending on your source). The v12 did see one race in the '57 season piloted by Jean Behra, however it was quickly discovered the v12 not only destroyed its tires but also had overheating issues. According to El Masestro himself, the additional power at the expense of additional weight gave the 250f no real advantage over the inline 6. So Fangio stuck with the tried and true I6 for the '57 season. In this WHC175 we are met with a dual challenge, which I hope help extract the strengths of these vehicles.

    Cobblestone: Check
    Zero margin for error: Check
    Finesse required: Check
All my boxes are ticked for this challenge as we reminisce the old days where mistakes = almost certain death. Since we dont have Monaco to traverse, it was decided that this course is as close as we would get to present some of the challenges faced by the brave souls of the 50's era racers. The skill required to lap this course at pace without wrecking the car will make you sweat (at least it did for me!). This course, albeit short, will keep you on your toes and make you focus on precision placement.
As for lap time reference, the current but not for long world record on RSR is 56.207 set by me.
Only Vintage tires are available and recommended PSI is 40.

The v12 really enjoys stretching its "legs" and letting the rear hang out there to get around corners quickest. I feel this course allows you to explore the capabilities of this v12 model.
RSR world record (again, not for long) is 2.43.933 set by me.
Only Vintage tires available, recommended PSI is 40.

****WHC #174 is still running until tomorrow, 4/19/2020 until 18:00 GMT (I believe?)****

    How to take part:

Had to have a quick go.... Reduced fuel and shortest transmission, otherwise stock with default tyre pressures.
It's very understeery, until it oversteers!
Quite a long way off @DriverModFTW 's 56.2, but if I can get the front to respond a bit quicker, I should at least get halfway there.:)

Thanks to @moodyryder for his solution to my set-ups not saving. Create a new user profile. Set ups now save.

Got the tyres to 34psi, and changed front toe to -10ish (from -20 to +20 on consoles)
Rear toe and rear camber are not adjustable.

ABS off, brake pressure at 97% is the answer.
Full throttle anywhere other than the straight is reckless :D

    My poor expression!
I mean - after a few goes with it locking up, I put the ABS on. But that makes the slowing painful, so back to ABS off, with a lower braking force for my clunky foot.
The whole thing is 2 mins of semi-permanent slide anyway and at least a bit of a screech shows something's happening!

Woooow, this is a total blast. I hadn't known what to expect but by hell this is serious fun. I had to adjust my G27 down from 900 degrees to about half that, just to avoid wrenching my dodgy shoulder with all the opposite lock! :D:D:D
The setup: totally clueless. I adjusted the suspension to some crazy extremes, including all heights to minimum, all springs to minimum, and set a time, then set all springs to maximum, and set a very similar time (a few tenths quicker). I've got the gears set so I use 1st-3rd, and am still feeling my way around, but wow, big cheesy grin!
This has more in common with rallying than track racing - I'm gunning it with serious opposite lock, and then throwing it at the inside barriers knowing it'll miss by miles... ROFL.
I can't remember the last WHC where the quickest way around the track was sideways but this might be the one.
PS: @DriverModFTW - Sidekick is telling me that 40psi is the optimum, so maybe it's wrong? I think it might use a hard-coded look-up table; maybe it's out of date. I forgot to check the colour of the pressures in the tyre app.

@Neilski so then 32 cold. That sounds right. I ran my setup with 34 front, 32 rear at black cat. These vintage tires don't take to heat well and I found at black cat county my fronts were heating more with less psi (so I started with all of them green). I went up to 34, where they are just out of green. I found the temps were more stable throughout the lap with a little more psi in the front. Ill change the recommended to 32 in the post for a better baseline (these values are the menu tuning values, not "hot" value)

I also forgot to mention this can either be done as individual, pick your poison, or combo. No pressure, just have fun.

A bit beyond my pay grade this one.

I had a pair of laps in practice mode and they didn't go well. I thought I'd go straight into Hotlap and the first clean lap would have to do.

As it was I managed to get round unscathed on the first attempt before promptly dropping it at the first turn on lap 2.

    2m53.9 it is then.

Tyres now at 40psi! Got this on the 2nd lap, feels much more stable, should be able to get a 56 with a bit of practice:)

Target achieved. The fruit of an enjoyable afternoon's effort.

Things aren't looking so good at Black Cat.
