1. Do you need support for Assetto Corsa Competizione? Please use the proper forum below and ALWAYS zip and attach the WHOLE "Logs" folder in your c:\users\*youruser*\AppData\Local\AC2\Saved. The "AppData" folder is hidden by default, check "Hidden items" in your Windows view properties. If you report a crash, ALWAYS zip and attach the WHOLE "Crashes" folder in the same directory. Do not post "I have the same issue" in an existing thread with a game crash, always open your own thread. Do not PM developers and staff members for personal troubleshooting and support.
  2. As part of our continuous maintenance and improvements to Assetto Corsa Competizione we will be releasing small updates on a regular basis during the esports season which might not go through the usual announcement process detailing the changes until a later version update where these changes will be listed retrospectively.
  3. If ACC doesn't start with an error or the executable is missing, please add your entire Steam directory to the exceptions in your antivirus software, run a Steam integrity check or reinstall the game altogether. Make sure you add the User/Documents/Assetto Corsa Competizione folder to your antivirus/Defender exceptions and exclude it from any file sharing app (GDrive, OneDrive or Dropbox)! The Corsair iCue software is also known to conflict with Input Device initialization, if the game does not start up and you have such devices, please try disabling the iCue software and try again. [file:unknown] [line: 95] secure crt: invalid error is a sign of antivirus interference, while [Pak chunk signing mismatch on chunk] indicates a corrupted installation that requires game file verification.
  4. When reporting an issue with saved games, please always zip and attach your entire User/Documents/Assetto Corsa Competizione/Savegame folder, along with the logs and the crash folder (when reporting related to a crash).

Best option is to give people options

sim racer give us option to go realistic as possible.

Casual racer give them options to have more relaxed rules.

But tbh best option is to wait and see what they have in store for us and work from that :)

well thats their problem, they shouldn't be corner cutting, making a penalty system to to keep the corner cutters happy is stupid

Not if they're paying the bulk of the money. The solution to those people should be ranking where serious racers can be separated from people less serious without alienating a load of sales by having proper rules.

It's not dumb to say a business will try and make their product as appealing to as possible. It's common sense. And the ranking system is the solution to racing against people who are at a similar skill level to you. That obvious.

If you've actually raced online in a sim which enforces penalties for excursions (like for example AC with penalties turned on :D) you must surely know how frustrating it is to get a penalty for (a) an honest mistake which already cost you time or (b) contact from somebody else which sent you off.

Actually I am fine with very strict track limits as long as the system detects whether you left the track by your own fault or someone pushed you off. (a.k.a Lex Monza T1 :D)

...except that that's basically impossible, especially if you don't make contact.

Bump. Kinda annoys me that in most racing games (so not only in ACC), your lap is invalidated even if you go wide and lose time in the process. There is a delta in the background telemetry so the game can know when someone gains in real time by exceeding track limits and for example cut a corner on the inside, so why disallow (invalidate) lap times when you happen to overshoot a corner on the outside and catch some gravel in the progress which will cost you half a sec anyhow?

If it costs you half a second then does it matter if its invalidated? A qualy lap or a hotlap should be the fastest lap around a clearly defined track for a fair comparison. Its the same for everyone and to set a valid lap the same basic rules shoud apply for all.

No point allowing people to define their own track for hotlaps, if people cant stay on the track then they should learn to do this rather then expect complicated code to deal with their poor driving when a simple method works great.

In races its a different story and ACC on the most part deals with track limits pretty well, its still fairly soft and so anyone being penalized shouldnt have any complaints. In a hotlap it works fine as it is being pretty strict with limits and so if you want to set a valid hotlap the first thing you need to manage is to stay on the actual track.

If its meant to allow you to go off track assuming you dont gain, at what point are you not making a gain? If your allowed to run way wide, carrying more speed into corners even if you dont have the ability to stay on track it is clearly a gain. Even if theoretically others may go faster and stay on the track it doesnt mean for those that cant the track limits shouldnt be considered as its no longer a fair comparison around the same track. ;)

I like it if those laps would still be validated as they get registered and not forgotten, especially when you're testing and trying to find the limits it would be nice to have them registered as a reference point to improve upon. Also for example during a quali session imagine if you lose time somewhere but the lap gets registered anyhow, it would avoid you having set 0 official laps in case you're late for quali and don't have much laps to set a time.

Hence why I said it could be linked to the delta, the game is able to know when you gain/lose somewhere so if you combine physical track limits with a general delta to verify if time was gained, that would be a way to avoid discussion.

Because this leaves the door open to exploitation. If you can gain massive time in a corner by taking a much wider yet a bit slower line in the corner before it, the system will not flag the lap as invalid. The current system is nice and clear: stay on track if you want a valid lap.

The best way to avoid setting zero valid laps in qualy is to stay on the track, its the same for everyone and so puts you under pressure to ensure you keep it on the track while going as fast as you can. You will often want to set a banker lap first then push harder once you have a time. If you don't have the time to do this then the key part is to go as fast as you can while staying on track.

ACC I am sure uses a method as you suggest but for race laps, I really dont see any reason why it should need to do this for qualy laps.

If you have telemetry laps on, they all get registred in the file and you can check them out in the motec. Dont really know what your issue is.
The system works and it is only fair that you have to do valid laps to get a valid quali time, sometimes you have to drive under the limit to avoid getting invalid times. This makes the qualifing prozess more in deep and interesting.

Can we send this old dead thread back to his well deserved sleep now? ;)

Automatic multiplayer sanctions is one of the perks of having "limited" track content, and I´m very happy about how it is implemented.

There are maybe a couple of corners where the penalty system is a little harsh. One is definately at the Nürburgring out of Mercedes-Benz arena. Almost everyone runs a little wide ther IRL so the tracklimits should be rather like at Spa after T8. There you can run a little wide but you can't exaggerate it.

The most important thing with track limits (or any penalty really) is consistency and that’s something you can’t argue in a sim so there’s no issue from me. Something can only be unfair if you got a penalty for something that another driver didn’t, that’s not possible in a sim and everyone gets judged exactly the same so all good with me. Like real life you learn where the limit is and you follow that, if you push it there is no “getting away with it” in the sim world
