Am now downloading windows 10

well, here goes. now downloading Windows 10 on my system. hope for the best! any advice you guys can give? I hear there can be a significant bump in performance for some games when going from 7 to 10, but I don't know yet. will see. have also decided to buy the GTX 970. I hear this card is an overclocking beast! but I am very inexperienced at OC. tried the msi afterburner some 6months ago, and used the 'heaven' benchmarking software but had mixed results with my GTX 660. sorry that this is kinda 2 posts in one. just excited and nervous at the same time.

 

Forget benchmarking,Anyway you won't need to with your gtx970 they are great cards.

I did it on my laptop and it couldn't have gone smoother, everything was exactly the same after the upgrade, all files intact, even programs.

 

Everything went just fine here too.
I have a GTX970 too and the difference on FPS is like 5... 7 FPS more on some games, but since I have to use VSync I can't really see the difference most of the time.
I think maybe on Witcher 3, but could be placebo or better drivers/new patches.
I guess the bet will come when game start using DX12, which will take some time.

Anyway, congrats on your new card, it's a beast for the price.

 

yes, it went smooth, but 1024 x 768 resolution? you have to be kidding me! I have to choose recommended settings? what about my native resolution: 1920 x 1080?

 

Only got my update today for win10 and of course it failed

 

you need either wait for windows install it's default VGA driver (and reboot) or install NVIDIA drivers

 

yea, I should have known. need to install gtx 660 drivers. let me try now, thanks

The upgrade process for me was amazing, down to it keeping my network printer configuration perfect, and mouse macros. very good.

I don't get any higher performance in games than win 7 however.

Never change a running System.

Had tryed it on a second PC,after that 5.1 Sound is not working anymore.

Was going back to Win 7 (a Win10 Option).

My Internet Connection doesnt work after going back to Win7.

Was able to fix it in 2 Hours of research.

Lost two programs (AVG intivirus and AVG PC tune upp). Could not launch Steam,
Origin ,GOG so practically all my games where unplayable after "uppgrading" to 10.
Didnt like the looks off windows 10 and I dont Think its as intuitive as 7
in terms off finding stuff and working things out.

 

Haven't really noticed any problems with windows 10.

Windows 10 itself seems like an odd mixture of new and old interfaces. e.g you click a 'settings' menu option and up pops some modern touch-friendly looking interface, but more often than not, behind that new glossy surface is the old windows 7 dialog stuff lurking if you delve deeper. Which, although there's nothing wrong with windows 7, the mixture makes windows 10 feel like they got bored halfway through updating it.

It reminds me of Virgin media's Tivo where half the menus are now in 1080p wide high resolution but the rest (less used stuff) switches back to the original blurry 480p Tivo interface.

 

I updated using the creation tool from MS site. Then installed it on a usb with the creation tool and installed fresh. Seriously the easiest, hassel free windows os install ive done. I find it odd that others are having issues.

 

As for it being 'spyware' you can turn off all that jargon easily and its no different to google, facebook etc
