Are the Special events even possible?

Well it seems it was focused on the launcher all the time. This time I used alt+tab to make sure it will record it on track. Still 95-96% for me, so something is wrong with it. @AC Support

 

I like the desktop picture, maybe you're not all bad afterall.

Temps still make no sense, have you got any mods installed that might have changed that by chance?

 

I'm using Natural Mod PP, but it only alters how the game looks AFAIK. And definitely doesn't change grip settings. It's easy to test without though, so I'll edit this post in 2 minutes.

Just what I thought, no change without it. I'll mess with other settings and will try to find if something is affecting it.

Tried different assists settings (set to gamer, then to racer) and nothing.
Also unticked "keep selected track conditions between game modes" in Options>General tab but still nothing.

I think this needs a proper bug report in the PC section.

 

So it turns out that my lower grip levels are due to a mod that I have installed so my messages about lower grip on PC was misleading.

About M3 @ Magione and F40 S3 @ Mugello (about which I was saying from the beginning and not any other events) - I still say that those new lap times on consoles are doable and those events aren't bugged.

 

Good of you to say sorry. You have to remember this matters to console owners looking for a better and consistent experience.

I'll counter with the answer that there remains absolutely no reason for the console special event times to be different from the pc times, especially when you factor in the number of players on gamepads rather than wheels.

For reference I am a grumpy old bastard without cat like reflexes but have been playing various racing games for 30 odd years, I do know my way round a virtual track...Well apart from when I am headed off backwards into the wall For reference in the Project cars esports TT events I will usually be 1 to 2 seconds off the pace...Yes, I do use a wheel.

The F40 at Mugello is killing me though, that one requires some proper skills!

 

I've just come across this thread and although I've only dabbled in a couple of the special events so far one of them happened to be "Shining Red". I managed to get Bronze after a couple of laps and I'm an average driver - I certainly feel that with a little more practice both Gold and Silver times are genuinely attainable.

Video of my run is below (PS4 version). No assists other than factory ABS & TC which I believe were actually set to "zero" in any case.

I guess all I'm saying in response to the OP is that no, the special events are not "impossible", challenging yes, and some probably more so than others, but that's the point surely?

Well done. Shining Red has the same medal times as the pc version and is also one of doable challenges, looking at average times posted by players. This reinforces the point that the challenges as they were set on pc are about right, not easy to silver and gold by any means but with some application by a reasonable competent gamer likely to be achievable.

 

Is that with a controller? Since you know, the majority of console owners use a controller to play games, not a wheel.

 

Yes, but there`s something different with drive between pc and consoles. I saw some youtube event laps in pc and it's impossible to brake in consoles at same points in PC. And it's not a setup problem. A friend of mine, played yesterday some laps in PC on this event with an xbox controller, he was able to do 44.9. He has bought the game today for xbox and with the same setup as yesterday in PC and with xbox controller he only arrives to 46.1

That is interesting news, makes the fact most of the console special events require 2-3.5s faster laps even more baffling. If your friend could make a few video clips and post them up here that would be helpful. Even if it is just the particular corners with the differences that would help.

 

Just gave the Shining Red challenge a few laps and with no tuning and traction control to save time, ran a 1:48.9 but I can see myself breaking the high 1:46 mark with some more practice and no tuning. Though if people on controller will be able to do it with any less struggle than myself I'm not so sure, definitely not the average gamer.

Yes it's on a wheel, from another person making wild claims.
1. He's on a wheel which puts him above average gamers to begin with, especially on Assetto with its physics/current controller woes.
2. He has wheel skills, which puts him well and truly above his claim of being an average gamer, any person experienced with a wheel will tell you the same unless they're blatantly lying.
3. For all his actual skills, he claims to have no traction or ABS yet if he actually watched his own video he would see they are both activating.

Is anybody able in consoles brake like this?



I'm not. First chicane i can start braking at 190m, and second and last chicane, 20 or 30 m before de bridge, when the youtuber brakes just under the bridge. Maybe is because of an old build pc game?

Main problem i've in xbox game is that i can't reduce shifts so quickly, game doesn't allow me. It seens that game doesn't allow to reduce until you are in really low revolutions, then i loose motor brake help and i need more meters to stop the car.

 

When is that video from? Remember that the physics have changed in the PC version and from what I understand times have slowed down.

Not a lot you can do with the 599xx to make it quicker at Monza, set toe to as near zero as possible, pump up the tyres a bit and reduce front camber to optimise braking. I ran with TCS on 7 or 8 and leaned on it out of the slow corners.

Is the problem that the pad controls need to be improved rather than the times made easier?

 

Sorry, yes, I'm a wheel user so for those using a pad/controller this might not be quite so relevant. There has been a fair amount of criticism about the controls for pad users on both consoles but one player I know and whose opinion I respect quite highly has said that once you get your controller settings dialled in that it is actually very good.

This video is a demo of her racing with a pad and no assists and although it's not a special event, hopefully it is relevant to this thread in view of the negative feedback about controller issues.

I'll try your setup, i'm trying to reach 44.5, but i think i've made all possible combinations setups XD

 

yup same here but i m experiencing this only with stock cars, not happening with gt3 cars for example.
