1. Do you need support for Assetto Corsa Competizione? Please use the proper forum below and ALWAYS zip and attach the WHOLE "Logs" folder in your c:\users\*youruser*\AppData\Local\AC2\Saved. The "AppData" folder is hidden by default, check "Hidden items" in your Windows view properties. If you report a crash, ALWAYS zip and attach the WHOLE "Crashes" folder in the same directory. Do not post "I have the same issue" in an existing thread with a game crash, always open your own thread. Do not PM developers and staff members for personal troubleshooting and support.
  2. As part of our continuous maintenance and improvements to Assetto Corsa Competizione we will be releasing small updates on a regular basis during the esports season which might not go through the usual announcement process detailing the changes until a later version update where these changes will be listed retrospectively.
  3. If ACC doesn't start with an error or the executable is missing, please add your entire Steam directory to the exceptions in your antivirus software, run a Steam integrity check or reinstall the game altogether. Make sure you add the User/Documents/Assetto Corsa Competizione folder to your antivirus/Defender exceptions and exclude it from any file sharing app (GDrive, OneDrive or Dropbox)! The Corsair iCue software is also known to conflict with Input Device initialization, if the game does not start up and you have such devices, please try disabling the iCue software and try again. [file:unknown] [line: 95] secure crt: invalid error is a sign of antivirus interference, while [Pak chunk signing mismatch on chunk] indicates a corrupted installation that requires game file verification.
  4. When reporting an issue with saved games, please always zip and attach your entire User/Documents/Assetto Corsa Competizione/Savegame folder, along with the logs and the crash folder (when reporting related to a crash).

Assetto Corsa Competizione - RayTracing confirmed?

  1. ya the truth is that the only place where things "just works" is in marketing.. where whatever you said 5 mins ago is history and you've already moved to think about something different :p
At that point devs come in and it becomes their problem to make it "actually work" :D

You mean the PR master and guy trying to sell consumer GPU's for $1899 aud. The one pretty much laughing at his own BS when talking about Gigarays and all the other new buzz words they invented with this series. Also the one that never mentioned how the new cards compare against the old ones with traditional rendering which will be used on 99% of all software used with them.

If it just worked then it would just work for every piece of software you load up with a driver setting. It doesnt because its just PR BS and spin to try and maximize profits ;) Even if its a cool bit of tech, the level of PR buzzword crap has reached a new high even for him. No idea how he will top this with the next release but he will give it a go.

Yes, it just works, if you design your game from scratch to work with RT. Unfortunately most people do not seem to understand what he meant by "it just works", most game devs do and that's why most of them seem to be excited about this. I'm not one of them, but if you watch the videos you can have a basic understanding.

Here's mine, please guys with more knowledge correct me if I'm wrong:

Currently game devs need to create their scenes by defining meshes and after that there's lots of stuff they need to "hack" in to make reflections and shadows look okayish. With RT, the only thing devs need to do is to correctly specify the physical properties of the objects in the scene, and the reflections and shadows "just work" without any extra hassle. An they JUST WORK pretty much as supposed to be in RL. No need to figure out ways and hacks, and whatnot. From a game devs perspective that's a nice thing IMO.

RT might be cool for replays in ACC, but during a race, I won't be looking at the reflection of my car up against another.

Sorry, should have added that it was obvious Chucky was being facetious.

Ray tracing is a significant part of my job. Even when frames take over 30 mins to render, I'm well aware that it doesn't 'just work'. Fact that anything can be rendered in 30ms (apart from Tomb Raider's shadows, obviously) is quite incredible.

Soo, The second picture is the equivalent to reflections on ultra say with my current gfx card on AC?
I'm not buying that, looks like it's on reflections low/low?

Its a great step to get hardware to even this level, personally Im not sold on it as I suspect performance wise my 1080 sli setup in 4k will still outperform a single 2080 ti if using rt on it, but traditional rendering on my setup.

Next gen will likely interest me more as Im not paying that sort of money just to get rt features with likely an fps hit over what I have atm at the same res. I do like that ACC will have this as a feature so when I do upgrade my gpu it will breath some new life to it.

Ofcourse u will not pay attention to it, but for your brain everything looks like it is supposed to (mirrors someone?!?!?). Don't underestimate what this means for immersion. I'm thinking next gen VR + RTX tech. This can indeed be the holy grail we are looking for.
Your reply should now look like this: 'Maybe in 2 years'
And this is indeed true, but there is always something new on the horizon :) one step at a time

I'm curious to know if ray tracing is actually faster or if they just wrapped current instructions in a new API. There are already ray traced things in games like shadows and ambient occlusion, but does theses cards accelerate things that were already raytraced or is it just a new API ? I can't wait to see benchmarks of the RT API compared to without the API. There has been numerous ray tracing attempts for example in Quake 3, 4 and up, and maybe in Rage so it has always been possible. edit : I'm looking at a cool video done in Quake 2 with a Titan xp.

I would love to see a demo of a Reyes renderer like Renderman with this API. If raytracing is really faster you could make an awesome engine with free antialiasing, shadows and displacement instead of normal maps. There wouldn't be all the fancy things like indirect illumination and it would need hacks to have soft shadows but it would be really cool.

I cannot answer that because I don't own ACC yet ;) In AC reflections might look better on ultra settings, but still far from perfect, other cars are not visible in the reflections, also mirrors do not show the car itself.

But I think you still missed the point. Yes, it's probably possible to get very close to what RT looks like without RT. And for most consumers that's the only thing that matters, that's why I think most consumers are not that much excited. I personally don't care much about reflections, as I can't really notice them when I'm racing and also not playing sims to watch and drool over the replays. The only thing I dream about for a long time are the nice soft shadows without flickering, that's immersion breaking in VR for me. That's the only thing I'll cheer for whenever I put my hands on an RT-enabled GPU in a few years from now. In ACC the shadows already look better, but cannot really beat ray-traced shadows...

Kinda offtopic, but given this whole RT talk... I still wonder how much more powerful for "current games" which do not use RT the 2080ti would be if 60% of the real estate on the chip was not used for tensor cores and stuff, imagine such a humongous die full of cuda cores. Maybe that would be way too many cores and probably will melt the chip, but a die 75% the size of the 2080ti one, full of cuda cores, say ~5500 cores instead of the 4300 it has now..... hnnnng. Personally the more I think about it the more I feel like I should just skip the 20xx generation of cards, they just do not seem to be worth it, gonna probably be subpar in RT performance and not enough improvement in non RT applications over a 1080ti to justify the humongous price hike over previous generations. As nice as having the benefit's of RT may be, is it worth taking a hit in overall performance? Maybe it is with high-quality monitors but, I'm not so sure with VR and it's already difficult to have smooth & consistent VR-performance in some titles. So I'm not sure I'd invest that much money into a new GPU at this point unless it can really boost VR-performance, with or without RT. It's going to take some time for the numbers to come in on performance gains under various conditions and optimizations so I don't see much reason to get excited right now but, I do like the potential for what the tech can provide over the long term.

For me it's clear that the 20xx series is a no-go for VR users, unless someone has cash to throw out and wants to squeeze out the last small performance gain. It's clear that these cards won't be able to feed a VR headset using RT. I personally hope to get my hands on a 1080Ti when the price gets just right.

I think that AMD could temporarily take advantage of this, they should be able to come out with a GPU which could be on par with the 20xx series when it comes to traditional rendering, but they better bring their stuff together and start thinking RT because once nVidia's RT cards start to get to better performance levels they'll be in big trouble...

we dont know yet but i guess no. its also a pretty weird question since we dont know how demanding the game will be. Are you ready to run low on everything else and no ss? Maybe, maybe not.

I'm pretty sure the answer is no. I don't think you can have shadows and reflections "low" with RT, you either have it or not, at least that's my understanding...

Those two being the most where I could gain some FPS by lowering them in my current AC settings, I don't think reducing other settings would be enough to reach 90fps in VR. Maybe later when eye tracking/foveated rendering will be available in headsets...

It's true but I just want to know if it's a good idea to buy one:confused:

Ray tracing seems very cool, a major advance (it's a fantasm for the real time since a couple of few years), but if I can't enjoy it with a 2080ti (on VR), 1300 euros the card...

You have options for raytracing on the renderers (Guerilla, MR, Arnold etc..) ... so why not here ?
But Stephano also said: for "secondary bounces" after a first pass is done with normal rasterization techniques...but you have others options.
