1. Do you need support for Assetto Corsa Competizione? Please use the proper forum below and ALWAYS zip and attach the WHOLE "Logs" folder in your c:\users\*youruser*\AppData\Local\AC2\Saved. The "AppData" folder is hidden by default, check "Hidden items" in your Windows view properties. If you report a crash, ALWAYS zip and attach the WHOLE "Crashes" folder in the same directory. Do not post "I have the same issue" in an existing thread with a game crash, always open your own thread. Do not PM developers and staff members for personal troubleshooting and support.
  2. As part of our continuous maintenance and improvements to Assetto Corsa Competizione we will be releasing small updates on a regular basis during the esports season which might not go through the usual announcement process detailing the changes until a later version update where these changes will be listed retrospectively.
  3. If ACC doesn't start with an error or the executable is missing, please add your entire Steam directory to the exceptions in your antivirus software, run a Steam integrity check or reinstall the game altogether. Make sure you add the User/Documents/Assetto Corsa Competizione folder to your antivirus/Defender exceptions and exclude it from any file sharing app (GDrive, OneDrive or Dropbox)! The Corsair iCue software is also known to conflict with Input Device initialization, if the game does not start up and you have such devices, please try disabling the iCue software and try again. [file:unknown] [line: 95] secure crt: invalid error is a sign of antivirus interference, while [Pak chunk signing mismatch on chunk] indicates a corrupted installation that requires game file verification.
  4. When reporting an issue with saved games, please always zip and attach your entire User/Documents/Assetto Corsa Competizione/Savegame folder, along with the logs and the crash folder (when reporting related to a crash).

Making mistakes under pressure, the closer someone is to you, is kind of realistic in fact :p

The A.I. is much better than before and continues to improve with each update. They are not perfect however they now fight back and are quite happy going up the inside of you without hitting you.

I have enjoyed racing with them on the lotus cup of brands hatch and the lotus 25. I have to say they are very very close to what I would deem good A.I.

    The places where they falter:

Under pressure they still sometimes just move out the way.

They don't drive to defend position at all.

Occasionally they go back to being processional. They will still attack sometimes in that procession but it's silly to see the AI driving 3 deep about 1 meter away from the rear of a car for half a lap. Even pro drivers have slight variations.

They catch ridiculous things. I spun out and the pack slammed into me. The AI recovered it in a way that would make vettel look like a learner driver. The AI should be able to lose control.

  3. very good analysis myimac, your list is so similar to mine it's spooky. The latest changes I've made for 1.4 are giving good results for now.
The biggest new challenge for next version is to have them driving closer to the ideal line when engaged instead of ending up at the far sides of the race track.. this will also have the effect of them being faster when side to side with the player (because they don't try to get too far from the line) thus giving a better fight.

Once this is sorted I should be able to try to give them some defending strategies, and, eventually, more variations in the way they act.

After some raceweekends where it set 2 of each GT3 car there is one thing that would be nice if it would be kinda improved.
Usually both cars are next to another after 60 minutes. And the ranking is often similiar. The AI somehow don't like the Mercedes' for example.

I don't they mean they should be totally mixed up at the race, just a little more varied. Seems a bit strange if you meat always the same cars at the same positions.
I believe in real races the different skills of drivers and little mistakes mix it a bit up.

Very sweet to hear this. Beyond the plans described in your post that you have for AI, additionally one more thing could be added, which is the AI behavior of pushing the throttle when a car ahead (usually human driver) has spun out or is in yellow flag situation. Often results in AI ignoring a bad situation right in front but they keep the throttle open and pushing the car(s) ahead. There were some discussions about it in the past, but now I remembered this again when someone talked about it in steam forum:
"What I hate with AI is, if you have a crash with an AI Car and you stick together the stupid AI is stll pushing the gas padel.
This can*t be that difficult to fix with programming, a regulare "If then" would help."

Sadly, I feel the complete opposite. The latest update has ruined it for me...on Brand Hatch in particular, the AI is the worst it can be. It's like I don't even exist. I watch the replays and shake my head in disbelief on how clueless the AI drive. They will do nothing to avoid me and it is so obvious on the replays and these replays don't lie. I will watch the replay just to make sure I didn't cut someone and sure enough, I'm not at fault but the AI is.

Reading this thread and seeing that most people think that the AI has improved I tell myself that you all must have a different version than I have. I have all 3 DP and with each and every update, the AI do not get better. This is my honest opinion and I have close to 400 hours in the game.

  8. I know they aren't the greatest ever, but where in these vids that I made a couple days ago do you see horrible AI:

What car are you driving, and what are your lap times in that car?

You know as well as me that the AI are a hit or miss...but mostly a miss. It's not important what car I drive and even less important my lap times. The AI should adjust. If I brake a little too early for THEIR taste, they should PRESS the brake like a good driver would do in real life and not try to go over my rooftop! That's just an example. Also what they do a lot of times is take me down like polices do in real life when trying to end a car chase....they will simply go on the inside and hit me in the rear quarter panel for no apparent reason. You know...when I see an AI slowing down in front of me, I don't keep pressing the accelerator like a madman, I REALLY try to slow my car so that I won't hit the car in front of me but they do just the opposite. It's like they "think" that MY car is not even there....like I don't exist so there is definitely bad coding there.

The more I play this game, the more I find the AI doing stupid stuff like this. It's so sad because the physic and FFB is absolutely fantastic but this just ruin the game completely for me. My lap times, the car I drive are not important. The AI should be able to adapt and BRAKE and not ram me in the quarter panel for no reason. Replays don't lie and when stupid stuff like this happen, I immediately start watching the replays and 99% of the time, it's the AI fault. I'm not going to post about this situation again because it's getting really frustrating.

This AI wrecking madness should have been Kunos priority from the very beginning of AC. They decided otherwise and it was their choice. I'm really losing confidence that one day they will get this situation fixed.

  10. Here's the deal; we can't change how the AI drives other than adjusting their overall speed using the difficulty slider; we can, however, change how we drive and that just might make for a more enjoyable time.
Maybe I am complete off base here, but I have a hunch that you are getting rammed in the center of the turn more often than not. I also bet that they are getting into your rear quarter panels on corner exit. Is this where you are having your biggest issues?
Load a video and show the class what is happening to you, especially if you truly believe that you are not at fault. In order to improve them, Stefano needs to know what they are doing under as many circumstances as possible. Showing a video of them completely at fault taking you out just might help him for future improvements.

And yes, your lap time has a huge bearing on your experience. As an example, if you are driving twenty seconds a lap slower than them problems are going to happen. If you are several seconds a lap faster than them, again, problems will likely happen. Some cars they are crazy fast in, some they are stupid slow; without knowing what times they are running compared to what times you are running how do you ever expect Kunos to improve them?

  11. ya sadly without a video these kind of post are pretty much useless... I find it really hard to get hit by the AI, like really really hard.. so it's clear you're driving in a way I can't even figure in my head if you experience that.

Same here. Rarely does AI hit me after 1.3. Actually the only issue I personally find now with the AI is that it leaves too much space when getting passed, sometime going off the track in the process. Leaving that aside, racing against the AI is enjoyable to say the least.

  13. I think currently the only way to get hit by the AI is to drive in the middle of the road, or, generally, away from the ideal line... ie, approaching a corner from the "wrong" inside lane.. the AI will assume you're giving way and won't see you until his ideal line will cross your wrong inside line. I can't think of anything else.
This happened to me a couple of times when I was trying to defend against an AI that was much quicker.. moved on the inside before the braking zone and got hit from behind at the apex.

Yeah nowdays ai hits me only if I do something stupid. And after the latest update my pet hate, ai giving up fights, has been improved significantly. To me ai wise this has been the best update yet. I've been having some excellent races at Brands Hatch.

To me the AI has 2(maybe 3) noticeable flaws but otherwise pretty good now.

    The flaws are...
The way they tend to run double file for a good portion of lap 1, the entire grid running side by side for 60% of lap one isn't realistic, lap one behaviour needs to be changed to "settle" sooner, fight hard for the first 3 corners then settle, plus less people getting the same exact jump off the line.

The AI doesn't move to protect the inside line, simple as that.
And maybe as a consequence of that, they show too much caution if someone has a look down the inside.

Other than that, they are fun to race.

Didn't had that many races, but my impressions:

I think the AI definitly improved, with 1.2.5 (~) and then later with 1.3.#, but with 1.3 they often struggled if there drove multiple cars next to another resulting in bumping, leaving the track etc., which improved with 1.4 I believe. The amount of times they left the track seemed to be far lower.

Before 1.4 they still bumped into cars slightly slower even at straight in some cases and if you breaked a bit too early - some mean that would be the players fault, but thats a common mistake and in some cases you need t do it, cause the AI infront is goin slowly through the turn, every halfdecent driver can react to small mistakes of the car in front - but that also seemed to be improved, they seem to react better to the car infront instead of just using the optimal point to break.

As a result the amount of cars that are damaged after a few laps seems to be far lower, too.

    One thing:

I made a few raceweekends with 2 of a each GT3's cars in it, now A both cars are nearly always next to another in the grid and B its usually the same order of cars.
That seems strange, while in reality there are superior cars sometimes, the drivers skills vary, they make smal mistakes and have better and worse days, resulting in a more mixed startinggrid.
    Could that be improved?

I agree, the ai very rarely hit me, they are well aware of my car and hold their line, as said above, usually giving even more room than necessary.
A probably similar situation to what you are describing, where I do get hit and would blame the ai for it, is when I take a late apex on a slow corner, usually the second part of a chicane. I am still well ahead on entry, I invest a bit in the line to get early on the throttle and the ai sees the opportunity to stick his nose in and spins me around.
Technically there probably was a gap to try such a move, but a good driver wouldn't try it, because
    A) even if we both make it through he totally compromises his exit, while I am early on the throttle, giving him no chance to complete that pass
    B) the move happens in the blind spot of the leading car, chances of a collision are way too big

of course I can adapt to this, but on the other hand the best experience would be if I could drive in the same way as when driving against humans. It probably is a thin line between not trying to take advantage of the car ahead making a mistake missing the apex and anticipating a late apex line, but maybe you have an idea.

One other thing: now that driving the ai is so much fun, do you think it would be possible if we could share that fun in multiplayer sessions? :) As far as I understood there is no way the server could operate ai, but would it be possible to have client operated ai one day?

One impression I had of the AI, which is just my brain finding patterns, so I wasn't sure enough it's a thing to report as a bug, is that they don't understand damaged cars. If I'm missing 10% front aero or whatever, which usually happens in the turn 1 scramble if at all, then later in the race they're worse about how they behave around me (less able to predict how I accelerate/corner maybe) For example they'll decide they can't make a pass stick and not even try even though my car's running 20 km/h slower than they just were. I can't name a specific incident since it's just a pattern I noticed but if anyone's in the mood for actually testing the AI, trying them at 0% damage vs. 100% damage + purposefully damaging the car might be informative.
