Community poll historic Spa

@some1pl: I don't want to derail the thread further into legal areas, but I still hold that a court of law would not rule against this usage. Feel free to PM me if you want more details.

I prefer the Spa with bus stop.

 

Just out of curiosity but how can someone laserscan an old track that doesn't exist anymore (I mean the original historic track, not parts of this road that still might be there)?
As a Belgian, I voted "against", which is very logical.

 

Most of it still is there, you can drive round it. Even if it's been re-surfaced scanning for elevations and cambers is worth it.



In particular the run through old Stavelot back to the new circuit is almost unchanged. Stavelot was a beast of a corner, it'd be worth scanning for that alone. I'm starting to wonder of being this excited by the prospect of historic Spa in AC is really OK....

Here's a very nice mod for GPL, you can only imagine what could be done with a laser scan and a modern gfx engine...

 

How many modding hours would it take, and how much would a Kickstarter need to raise to pay for that...

Any estimates?

Would the GPL Guys be cooperative in the spirit of historic racing and share their effort, to at least get a basic height and corner layout?

One thing I'd love is a "neo-Old Spa"; the old layout, but how it is today, ran as a combined street circuit. It'll never happen but the concept is fun in my head.



Start the lap just after La Source, up through Eau Rouge/Radillion and the Kemmel Straight, but at Les Combes you keep going straight to blast through the gate and continue onto the public road; woah up just a bit for a neat little chicane-type deal at 1:15, stick to the right for a tight street-circuit type squeeze at around 3:08, and at 7:50 keep going full-bore and bounce through the gate to rejoin the track just after Stavelot and complete the lap.

 

Yes, I want historic Spa-Francorchamps and I would pay for it. No way they could justify doing that track for free like with the other historic circuits.

However - Assetto Corsa does need more tracks. On PC that's not the biggest issue because of a selection of very good mods but on console this will be painfully obvious. And producing two-three modern, popular tracks instead of one historic Spa is just the more efficient, most sensible way to go on about that issue. So if they ever find themselves with the resources to do it I'd be more than happy to get it through a paid expansion but not if that'd mean no new tracks for another year or so.

 

Would love I have it? Of course! In the expense of 2-3 others? Well..... would it make commercial sence to make it? Probs not.... in all honesty its not the best track in the world all in all. The best bits have been retained in the modern version which has as we all agree is race track pornography.

 

I would love to have historic Spa, certainly more so over a lot of the other modern track. I'm hoping that the rumours over Laguna Seca are not true as its one of the dullest tracks to me around, especially when you have such incredible US tracks like Sebring, Road America, Virginia Raceway, Mid Ohio. However, I can see the logic that AC would benefit from having 2 - 3.tracks over 1 historic track. If I was asked if I would prefer Paul Ricard, Donington and Hockenheim or historic Spa, then it would be tough but I would choose the three modern tracks. Saying that, more than happy to pay for historic Spa.

 

It's public roads so i doubt the current circuit owners own the rights over it.

Voted "indifferent" because I really don't care but more tracks or cars never hurt anyone. The more the merrier.

But it's too late here for me to get a grasp on what you're trying to convey.

 

Chose indifferent. I'd like to drive it but won't keep me awake. IMO such tracks are for modders. I'd rather see Kunos spend their precious time on quality laser scanned tracks.
