Finally AMD Supersampling doesn't lose fps performance

I noticed just today, don't now if drivers or game update, if I enable by crimson panel "supersampling AA" i get better visual experience (much more less aliasing) but same performance.
In the past I always get about 1/3 of fps by enabling supersamplig. Now it works really SMOOTH.
What has changed?

I got this result in benchmark with my configuration: (it the past were halved the results)

Sounds cool! May I ask what version of the crimson driver you are on? The latest WHQL one or one of the Beta ones?

 

Beta 16.6.2. But don't know if it is from the latest drivers. Because last time I tried was about 6 month ago lol...

 

I am on the latest one at the moment, 16.7.1 Beta, just ran a bench with the default multisampling and then with supersampling enabled.

The difference is basically nothing
I was actually afk whilst the tests were running so I have no comment on how different it looks yet lol.
But I concur with you in saying that there is currently zero performance hit in enabling this option.

Sure it's enabled correctly? It's not actually supersampling anything if the framerate is the same. Maybe it's rending 2560x1440 to a 1080 display? Still should take a bigger hit I think.

 

Why would supersampling cause no FPS loss? You're basically making your system output your game at a higher resolution than your monitor can use, and it turn it makes the game look a bit better. Since you're using a higher resolution you're going to lose FPS, if you're not, it's probably not working.

 

I find a better graphics and also better aliasing, like when i was enabling it before, but now tihout losing framerate (as expected, like nvidia cards)

 

Something is wrong if supersampling doesn't cause a performance drop.

My first guess would be you're experiencing a placebo effect and the supersampling is not actually being enabled.

 

I know, but if i turn back to multisampling i experience bad aliasing; it's no just a placebo. Maybe a fps loss, but 2/3% at all.

 

You may be confusing Virtual Super Resolution with the Anti-Aliasing method of Supersampling.

I am using VSR, which gives me 2560x1440 rendered and then displayed at 1080p. This option is a different thing. It is a different way of the AMD driver doing the Anti-Aliasing.

 

I know what are these things. I forced supersampling into crimson panel, and I notice a change into aliasing behaviour, better visual also. In the past this thing caused me loss of fps.

I dont know. personally I dont think changing anything in the AMD settings app does anything in AC.
If you set AA to override app setting, and change it to 8x, nothing happens. Change it to no AA, nothing happens
but if your AMD setting to 8x (override) and in AC change it to AA off, AA is then off. So it doesnt look like to me it is doing anything.

 

Was the same for me back when I had a 290. Never could get much of anything to work with AMD on AC.

 

Same thing here with a 390.

 

Same with nvidia. Supersampling via override with the driver never worked in assetto corsa neither with nvidia or AMD. It only works sparse grid supersampling but costs a bit amount of fps.
