1. Do you need support for Assetto Corsa Competizione? Please use the proper forum below and ALWAYS zip and attach the WHOLE "Logs" folder in your c:\users\*youruser*\AppData\Local\AC2\Saved. The "AppData" folder is hidden by default, check "Hidden items" in your Windows view properties. If you report a crash, ALWAYS zip and attach the WHOLE "Crashes" folder in the same directory. Do not post "I have the same issue" in an existing thread with a game crash, always open your own thread. Do not PM developers and staff members for personal troubleshooting and support.
  2. As part of our continuous maintenance and improvements to Assetto Corsa Competizione we will be releasing small updates on a regular basis during the esports season which might not go through the usual announcement process detailing the changes until a later version update where these changes will be listed retrospectively.
  3. If ACC doesn't start with an error or the executable is missing, please add your entire Steam directory to the exceptions in your antivirus software, run a Steam integrity check or reinstall the game altogether. Make sure you add the User/Documents/Assetto Corsa Competizione folder to your antivirus/Defender exceptions and exclude it from any file sharing app (GDrive, OneDrive or Dropbox)! The Corsair iCue software is also known to conflict with Input Device initialization, if the game does not start up and you have such devices, please try disabling the iCue software and try again. [file:unknown] [line: 95] secure crt: invalid error is a sign of antivirus interference, while [Pak chunk signing mismatch on chunk] indicates a corrupted installation that requires game file verification.
  4. When reporting an issue with saved games, please always zip and attach your entire User/Documents/Assetto Corsa Competizione/Savegame folder, along with the logs and the crash folder (when reporting related to a crash).

GPU prices... is this going to kill PC gaming?

It wasn't pointed at you specifically, just that argument in general because as you'll see below... (FYI I agree with most of your other arguments)

Exactly my point. Use the "mass slaughter of pretty birds by these death turbines" to make the masses afraid of this new technology so they'll continue to rely on the old technology that's actually far more harmful to the environment and all those pretty birds but keeps the fat cat's pockets fat. Yet there's no agenda to make buildings and windows scary and label them as "bird death traps" because there isn't a giant industry being put at risk by their presence. That's why I roll my eyes whenever someone tosses about the "wind turbines kill birds" argument, sure they do but compared to a whole lot of other things, like houses, smog, power lines, windows, skyscrapers, or cars, turbines cause an insignificant amount of bird deaths and that's not a valid excuse to be against wind power IMO (especially weighed against all the benefits).

I was waiting patiently for a 1070 to come down below £400, however I think ill be waiting forever. Still rocking my 780GTX OC from 2013, brilliant card, runs most things at high or near high settings still.

I managed to borrow 2 970’s which im using in sli.. it runs most games i play at 2k with medium settings which is acceptable in the short term hntil the prices sort themselves out..

It might be a case now of just forgetting all about it and return to checking prices in 4 weeks..

Late to the thread, and seriously pissed.

Was looking for a total PC revamp (CPU, Board, PSU and Tower still from 2009) this summer and figured I should be able to get a GTX1070 and an i7-7700 into a 1500EUR budget.

Checking prices today on Amazon for GTX1070 blew my mind. Nvidia needs to do something about it. Maybe some way to void the warranty if the card has been coin-mining. They could write the average load of last seven days to a ROM or something - which would clearly look different for a desktop card versus a mining card.

IMHO Consumer goods are for consumers, not people trying to make money with them.

I think Monopolisim is a side effect of unchecked capitalism. I'm not anti capitalist, I think trading is a fundamental human behavior, it's the cornerstone of all modern human behavior, it lead to language, religion, farming, civilization and everything else that distinguishes humanity. But like other behaviors it can't be let run rampant, or it causes problems. Modern capitalism is too lose, it favors the rich too much. Until the rest of us cop on to that and put a leash on multinationals that won't change.

I saw a video on youtube of a guy explaining it's not going to change any time soon, we basically need bitcoin and the likes to go belly up. Cryptocurrency is too volatile for the manufacturers to increase production, by the time they get the cards to market the fad could be over and they would be left with a load of cards they can't sell because the second hand market is flooded with ex-miner cards. They can't make a dedicated card for the same reason.

The bottom line is though Nvidia don't care, they can't decide who gets to buy their cards and they get paid the same money whether it's a gamer or a miner buying.

I think the main issue is that miners are able to buy in bulk which means they can go to the main suppliers that supply the shops that we buy from, so the cards effectively never make it to market.

If you need a total pc revamp you are in luck since we have seen that total package with GTX 1080 are available for the cost of the gpu alone.

Then prevent them from becoming "big players" - viote against them with your wallet. If market participants do not do that, or put short-ösighted interests over long-ranged perspectives, then they will get what they deserve. I feel no pity there.

Capitlaism has an inherent teend for monpopolism like life has an inherent trend towards death. Nevertheless what lives tries to stay alive and stay healthy, gecome old. I see no reason why m,arket participants should not try to do the same for and with capitalism. Monopolism - is no caoitalism, becasue capitlaism needs, wants and depends on the free market. Monpolism aims at oreventing free markets. Socialist and planned economies aim at preventing free markets as well. There is no such thing like "social market economy" or "third ways".

I could go on at much more profound depth here, but then would necessarily touch upon other factors like claimed "democracy" and majority elections as well and would need to out it all in a much wider ocntext. This is not the right forum for that. Originally I only wanted to stand up against some dangerous misperceptions of what the Bitcoin is - but actually is not and cannot be. So I just leave it to that I am defending freedom and self-responsibility, for you cannot have the one without the other, and you cannot have any form of justice without any of the two. This necessarily and unavoidably must make me a strong enemy of today's growing state paternalism and hyerregulation, professional life-long politicians caste and life-long officialdom, and our hopelessly confused understanding of what "democracy" really is. What we call demcioracy today - the ancient Greek called tyranny, they would see our "democracy" as a mix of two of the three forms of tyranny they differentiated between (oligarchy and ochlocracy).

We are marching in line right into the latest of a long line of totalitarian regimes. And like our forefathers did and did and did, we do it with the betst intetnions, an later will claim that we coild not have known.

Wrong. We could have known, if only we would have wanted to know. History holds the lessons to learn from by the dozens. We reject them, not wanting to have our party spoiled.

There is nothing new under the sun except what has been forgotten.

There is no such thing as a free market in capitalism. If you don’t understand the financial system behind it you cannot understand this.
And therefore it’s futile to discuss it further.
It comes all down to fiat money, interest and compound interest.

@Skybird , while i agree with much of what you say, I do think that regulation by a body that represents the good of the people (and also the environment, obviously) is necessary to keep runaway capitalism from becoming purely self-serving with disregard for anything else. "Vote with your wallets" is a wonderful idea, but that doesn't really help people who have an empty wallet. Most of us are at the mercy of those with the true financial power. What I'm saying is that capitalism is good, but needs a thoughtful, benevolent government as an advocate for all its people. But right now, that's not exactly what we have.

Unfortunately, in my country at least, I believe the regulations that are chosen, and chosen to be lessened, are more often aligned to the benefit of the "elites" (largest stakeholders of business). I believe that *most* elected officials have their hearts in the right place, but the voices of most citizens are being drowned out by those who are voting with their enormous (and growing) wallets.

Because a totally free market is crude, it's survival of the richest (definitely not fittest), kill or be killed, anything goes, step on everyone else to get what you want. Most markets are socialist, because without some socialism you don't have workers rights, insurance, oversight, minimum standards, safety standards, warranties, a company could do anything they want in the search for profit.

The market should be a resource of the people, it should serve to better the overall well being of all citizens, but at the moment it's a tool to extract wealth from the majority.

Socialism is the default state of the human, humans depend entirely on other humans, especially modern city dwelling humans which are entirely dependent on everything being done for them.

And this will never work. Market means concentrating power, every time.
To serve the people you would need democracy, but we have a neutered version of it:
Representative democracy, in other words: a toothless tiger...

One of the reasons graphics cards are more expensive is cryptography mining, but that is not the only reason. Memory either for RAM, graphics cards or phones is in short supply. Memory is made from rare metals that are difficult to find and only a few countries have them. For that reason the supply is kept low. Low supply combined with high demand = increasing prices.

  20. However, that's also a reason why I won't even consider a used one now...Brand new from EVGA or Nvidia or nothing.
