1. Do you need support for Assetto Corsa Competizione? Please use the proper forum below and ALWAYS zip and attach the WHOLE "Logs" folder in your c:\users\*youruser*\AppData\Local\AC2\Saved. The "AppData" folder is hidden by default, check "Hidden items" in your Windows view properties. If you report a crash, ALWAYS zip and attach the WHOLE "Crashes" folder in the same directory. Do not post "I have the same issue" in an existing thread with a game crash, always open your own thread. Do not PM developers and staff members for personal troubleshooting and support.
  2. As part of our continuous maintenance and improvements to Assetto Corsa Competizione we will be releasing small updates on a regular basis during the esports season which might not go through the usual announcement process detailing the changes until a later version update where these changes will be listed retrospectively.
  3. If ACC doesn't start with an error or the executable is missing, please add your entire Steam directory to the exceptions in your antivirus software, run a Steam integrity check or reinstall the game altogether. Make sure you add the User/Documents/Assetto Corsa Competizione folder to your antivirus/Defender exceptions and exclude it from any file sharing app (GDrive, OneDrive or Dropbox)! The Corsair iCue software is also known to conflict with Input Device initialization, if the game does not start up and you have such devices, please try disabling the iCue software and try again. [file:unknown] [line: 95] secure crt: invalid error is a sign of antivirus interference, while [Pak chunk signing mismatch on chunk] indicates a corrupted installation that requires game file verification.
  4. When reporting an issue with saved games, please always zip and attach your entire User/Documents/Assetto Corsa Competizione/Savegame folder, along with the logs and the crash folder (when reporting related to a crash).

How to make multiplayer more meaningful

I'm sure this experience is very familiar:
You're in an 8 lap race at a track you know well, the first half of the race is very exciting with lots of position changes, but by halfway you're now in 4th place, with the guy in front 5+ seconds ahead of you and pulling away and the next guy behind you 10 seconds back and losing time. At this point you're now just in a situation of hotlapping for 4 laps on worn tires, with very little chance of anything interesting happening for the rest of the race. When you finish, the screen will just go black and the feelig of having accomplished anything will be very small to non existent.

It's for this reason that when I'm halfway through a race with 10 minutes of boring hotlaps ahead of me, that I often just quit to go look for another race that will be starting soon.

In comparison, in IRacing if the above happens, I'm now thinking 'Sweet lets just hold on to this spot and we should be getting a nice Rating boost. Lets also focus on hitting the marks and not going offtrack so we can try improve our Safety rating, a few more races like this and I can move up a license ..etc.'

The difference in how I feel about the race at that point is night and day as Iracing achieves having some sort of purpose and goal. So how hard would it be for Kunos to implement some sort of similar system? I don't know, but battlefield has achieved this through ranked servers that collect stats, so it would just be a case of implementing something similar and then deciding what stats need to be collected.

At that point, the possibilities become very interesting, as server admins can now set specific conditions for example : only players with a minimum of x safety rating may join, to keep out the wreckers, or x skill rating, to make sure the race is of a high standard etc.

I'm sure the first objection at this point, would be that it would be unworkable, as wreckers will just ruin your safety rating and you have no recourse to object. Well that's true, but if they also enable replays for multiplayer and you're on a server with good admins, you could send a video of your replay to the admin and that person would be banned. The well policed servers would quickly weed out the wreckers and become the main place people go to. (ALOOG GT2 Spa anyone?)

So do you guys also feel like multiplayer needs to generate more meaning and if so how?

Firstly, I'd like to say that in quite a few of my races I've been involved in some turn one carnage, finished the lap pitted had my car rebuilt & got back out almost 1 lap behind the lead cars and managed to finish 1st in class (gt3) due to people who either a) can't string ten consistent laps together or b (and this is far worse) get taken out by a novice.

That's not to say I'm a great driver far from it, but that persistency occasionally pays off.

However I understand what you are driving towards and I'm sure as the hollow nature of these victories wears thin I'll probably feel the same.

It's not until you go somewhere like the schwarzbierbude servers and see what information is available over there you can see your previous lap times, fastest laps and distance driven, that you realise what is missing.

So, yup. Stats, achievements, a global leader board even a clean driver indicator should all be implemented. Unfortunately I think it's way down on the long list of to do's.

So you will complete boring races only if you pay for it? Dear lord, the human mind is twisted :D

Well humans are competitive by nature right? We want to climb the ladder and try beat the other guy / team. If we weren't, no sport would exist since there would be no satisfaction in winning anything. So if my mind is twisted because I will pay for that competitive side in sim racing, then so be it.

Competition won't make you quit in the middle of a race. ;) The lack of public reward will.

  11. Nowadays some meaningless number, or ranking, is more important to gamers than the means of acquiring said number.
