Is there a true rear view mirror option?

As above. Any way (maybe a mod?) to get the rear view mirror in the in-car view to actually show a TRUE/REAL image i.e. including the rear interior or spoilers or the engine bay in mid-engined cars etc. like in iRacing?

If you get the RealHeadMotion mod (not an app) you can set the look over left/right shoulder button to 180 degrees. You'd have to press a button to do it, though. Just now realized you would be looking at your headrest, though.

 

This discussion has happened many times before though, sadly it seems to be not a feature that is going to be in AC anytime soon. It just annoys me that an ancient game like NR '03 could do proper real-time mirrors but AC can't , considering AC is supposed to be our next gen sim and we don't have a small feature from yesteryear. Even EuroTruck Sim 2 does real time mirrors and does it incredibly well for crying out loud. I could totally understand if it is a technical issue with the engine that cannot be fixed and the matter is totally out of Kunos' hands because such things happen and are unavoidable; but if this is being done to satisfy the potatoes and toasters, to that I say "isn't that why the options menu exists, to choose what you want". I don't think I ever saw an official response regarding this matter, just people giving out their vague opinions as to if it will be implemented. If there was an official response then I have probably missed it and would love it if somebody pointed me to that thread. :|

But there are bigger fishes to be caught when it comes to mirrors before we get to real-time 3d mirrors, basic stuff like adjusting the mirror FoV and such. Maybe we will get there in some time, hope is all the option we got now.

 

Potato pc users along with bigger fish to fry are the reasons that were given to me when I asked, but as far as I know there is no 'official' explanation anywhere. I'm sure they are on the to-do list somewhere, but how deeply buried they are on that list is anybody's guess.

Doesn't the actual mirror in the car (not the F11) actually show whatever there is to reflect? I think depending on my point of view (or fov) that it changed angle too. Am I wrong?

 

Mirror improvements in 1.1, via Stefano on twitter:

"Also improved rear view mirrors a lot,both FOV and position. Great difference during a race.FOV is also configurable via INI." Also says view is now calculated from driver's eye position.

When I asked about rendering the player car in the mirrors, he replied "ya I'll have to try that.. it adds a lot of immersion." I'd be surprised if this made it into 1.1, but at least it's on his radar.

Would like to see the interior in the mirror too. Anyway, looking forward to any updates in the mirrors. As it is now, cars look further away in the rear view mirror than in the side mirror. Usually (at least in a street car) the opposite is true. We've all seen the warning on side mirrors "object in mirror may seam further away...")

 

Just checked out this mod and it indeed has this! does that mean it is something car-specific as opposed to just showing you a 180 degree camera behind the driver by default?

 

you could add a 2D vision of the interior ontop of the mirror (i think NR2003 did it this way)
not sure how well it would look, but better than a clear mirror, especially in the side view mirrors i miss some information about the size of my car and how close someone is to my car...

 

I think that they achieved the effect by putting an image file over the mirror.
