I was doing some research today and found out that my Dell 34” curved monitor provides display port 1.2 version but also provides hdmi 2.0. I found out that if these are the only choices your monitor gives you then its better to use your hdmi connection then the 1.2 display port. Hdmi 2.0 supports hdr and display port 1.2 does not. I made the switch today and noticed improved performance in the areas of a better picture and quicker menu response times. The picture looks more realistic and less cartoonish more detailed to. If you have display port 2.0 your better off with it compared to hdmi 2.0. But hdmi 2.1 takes the cake if you have that hookup.

As far as I know HDMI 2.0a supports HDR. Strange they did put a DP 1.4 port..

when I switched back to pc not far ago I wondered this too... did some research but enough not clear my doubts on which was better among hdmi and dp connections... I have an LG 34" 21:9 with those two options as yours, and so far just used the dp connection...

thanks for the heads up, will definitely double check this up, cheers

What model # is your Dell?

some manufacturers are sneakingly tagging their monitors as HDR when they are only HDR 400.

I do not believe that monitor is HDR certified as it's brightness is 300 cd/m2 which is fairly standard. HDR 400 is 400 cd/m2. From what I have read HDR starts to work as intended at HDR 600, HDR 1000 etc..

Oh i know my current monitor doesn’t support hdr even if i have the hdmi cable to support it. But when i upgrade to a current day tech monitor i at least know to use either dp 2.0 or higher or hdmi 2.0 or higher. But of the choices I currently have hdmi 2.0 is noticeably better then dp 1.2..

Oh right... I misunderstood as I thought you were attributing your graphical gains to HDR.

    2.0a or higher..
