1. Do you need support for Assetto Corsa Competizione? Please use the proper forum below and ALWAYS zip and attach the WHOLE "Logs" folder in your c:\users\*youruser*\AppData\Local\AC2\Saved. The "AppData" folder is hidden by default, check "Hidden items" in your Windows view properties. If you report a crash, ALWAYS zip and attach the WHOLE "Crashes" folder in the same directory. Do not post "I have the same issue" in an existing thread with a game crash, always open your own thread. Do not PM developers and staff members for personal troubleshooting and support.
  2. As part of our continuous maintenance and improvements to Assetto Corsa Competizione we will be releasing small updates on a regular basis during the esports season which might not go through the usual announcement process detailing the changes until a later version update where these changes will be listed retrospectively.
  3. If ACC doesn't start with an error or the executable is missing, please add your entire Steam directory to the exceptions in your antivirus software, run a Steam integrity check or reinstall the game altogether. Make sure you add the User/Documents/Assetto Corsa Competizione folder to your antivirus/Defender exceptions and exclude it from any file sharing app (GDrive, OneDrive or Dropbox)! The Corsair iCue software is also known to conflict with Input Device initialization, if the game does not start up and you have such devices, please try disabling the iCue software and try again. [file:unknown] [line: 95] secure crt: invalid error is a sign of antivirus interference, while [Pak chunk signing mismatch on chunk] indicates a corrupted installation that requires game file verification.
  4. When reporting an issue with saved games, please always zip and attach your entire User/Documents/Assetto Corsa Competizione/Savegame folder, along with the logs and the crash folder (when reporting related to a crash).

Well I have to call BS as well. So we are not to expect an engaging singleplayer career or a competitive multiplayer? What else is there, hotlapping? This is why AC gets that negative connotation as a hotlap simulator. And I must say people like you are it's enablers.

And to couple that with trying to portray some sort of an elitist sim racer attitude when you know he wasn't implying the game should include these "arcade" features. It's not a good look.

And yes, I know people need to manage expectations when it comes to racing simulators however if you're going to have a career mode ( which according to the main menu of the game, there is one) give it some purpose, show us our progression. Same with the multiplayer though I don't play online myself.

I'm not arguing with your point I agree for the most part but I've also found that the tighter scope has many benefits from my point of view. I found the lack of choice has allowed me to really put my head down and focus on getting faster, I've pretty much settled on the Audi as my car of choice for now so it's just a matter of leaning that car on each track.

I'm very time poor poor though, I can only set my rig up on weekends and I don't always get a free weekend. If my rig was available every weekday I might want more variety but I'm finding this restricted driving very beneficial at the moment, my skill level has certainly gone up since ACC came out. I've tried playing a bit of AC but it's like it's missing some crucial element and all I want to do is go back to ACC and work on my driving there.

What is a engaging single player career though? Do you want more story driven cut scenes like in the F1 titles?

I think the engaging competitive multiplayer is more important, if they could make progressing through some multiplayer structure the career that could be good. Lets just wait and see what the next update brings, they've been working away in the background, maybe they have something in the pipeline.

I don't know if we have the same game mate, because there is plenty of progression, achievements and definitely a purpose there.
You guys just want f1 like carrier mode that is cool but those types are game are far from a proper simulator hence codemasters focus more on carrier mode rather than actual driving (which is absolutely arcade)

Since it has a career mode you should compare it to other racing games with career mode as well. And you better compare it with the Best instead of the worst.

Absolutely not. The career is simply one off races. Nobody said anything about a f1 game type story or cut scenes. Don't put words in my mouth.

The only game I can think of with an engaging career is the F1 titles (haven't played them), it's the only comparison I have. The only other game I've played that had a "career" was the original dirt game.

I'm just wondering what the career would entail? As far as I can tell the career in most driving games is about how races are presented to the player. Not trying to put words in your mouth, just wondering what makes a career?

I'm not particularly interested in the career mode, but I would have to concur that the current implementation is weak. The races don't even have points awarded to them, which is all it really needs. That 'career' is the largest and most prominent button on the home screen is an odd decision I think as well.

Exactly what I mean. What's the point in even having it especially when there's custom championship

Tighter scope means more specialisation and detail, yes, and wider scope more diversity, but less detail. Reminds of what in classical test theory in German is called "Reliabilitäts-Validitäts-Dilemma" :) - you cannot have both, the more you have of the one, the less you must accept to get of the other: the more precision you have in a test, the less representative it becomes for reality/theoretic construct . The more oriented to reality or representative for a construct a test is, the less precise it can be, its like switching lenses in a microscope or telescope, and with high magnification you get an ever smaller, darker viewing field, making it more difficult to get a view and idea of the whole while showing smaller details that previously were invisible, almost.
Its of course much a question of taste, such polls are subjective. I weighted the limited track content and just one car class (4-5 points) versus the fidelity by which ACC does what it actually does in the simulating aspect of the project (9-10 points), and technical realisation (sound, graphics, etc) and the feeling to drive. Thus, still 8 points.

I expected in advance a limited attraction of ACC for me, btw, compared to AC1 and RR. I am neither surprised, nor angry or frustrated or disappointed. I did not know Blancpain, checked what it is, understood "only GT3 cars, only ten tracks, two of which I do not like anyway, no mods", and expected that this would be of more limited interest to me. And so it is. Still, a fair, even cheap price, and all in all good quality. I'm fine with it. All is good.

  11. Best part of all of this is that if RD went ahead and put up the poll for either AMS2 or GTR3 the nines and tens would rain down like manna from heaven.

Seems to me that the average simracer spends more time dreaming about whatever is coming next, be it an upcoming update or entirely new game, rather than playing what is available now. (guilty as charged, btw)

It's probably not to far off what a newcomer to GT racing might experience. When a gentleman driver starts driving GT3 they probably don't jump straight into a full season, there seems to be teams that pick and choose which races they do and aren't as interested in competing for the championship. That would make sense, drivers get their bearings with a few non championship races (maybe there's even teams that specialise in getting novice drivers experience) and then the next year they can consider mounting a championship challenge.

Maybe it would have been better to focus the career on one of those gentleman drivers, it could be about some rich bastard and he's dream to be a race driver rather than being an actual professional race driver.

I can fully understand if players get disappointed with the career experience. I wonder what went wrong during the development.

I never really expected the career to be much more than what it is, I just don't see how a small team could have created all the required content on top of the sim. Cut scenes require a lot of work, there needs to be some sort of interactivity outside of the racing to make them more than just movies that play in between racing. There's a lot of extra work there that falls outside of the expertise of simulation developers.

I don't know that it's worth all that extra work if people are just going to either ignore it or play through once. As I see it the single player aspects of the sim are for practice, online should be the "career" if one exists. That way the career side of the game is more true to real life.

I don't think the career is a straight forward thing, it's a big investment to put a cherry on top of the sim. I don't think it's necessary and may be there more to appeal to console gamers that expect it when ACC get's ported onto console.

Bottom line for me is my expectations are low, I don't expect anything too elaborate and won't be disappointed if the current career is all we get. But making that career button smaller could be a good idea. Out of sight, out of mind.

I understand you had very low expectations (really that low?) but when a feature called career for a racing game is announced many people will have certain (higher) expectations. An announced feature below many peoples expectations is bad for the general reception of the game.

Without any fancy cutscenes or animations, I think the career would have been nice serving as a tutorial about the rules and also give some introduction and tips about the circuits and the cars. AC had nice little texts written for each event.
And then it could have been a game mode in which the drivers starts with low goals in an am team and can get promoted, gets offered a drive from different teams until some seasons later he becomes platinum and his team expects him to fight for the pro championchip win. I think this would be very rewarding and keep the player motivated for very long time.

Way too late anyway to think about this stuff, it is how it is. Maybe next game :D

You don't need much money to create a page where you can present the shiny medals you get each weekend and to enable championship points.
And to implement stuff @baboon mentioned above.
