1. Do you need support for Assetto Corsa Competizione? Please use the proper forum below and ALWAYS zip and attach the WHOLE "Logs" folder in your c:\users\*youruser*\AppData\Local\AC2\Saved. The "AppData" folder is hidden by default, check "Hidden items" in your Windows view properties. If you report a crash, ALWAYS zip and attach the WHOLE "Crashes" folder in the same directory. Do not post "I have the same issue" in an existing thread with a game crash, always open your own thread. Do not PM developers and staff members for personal troubleshooting and support.
  2. As part of our continuous maintenance and improvements to Assetto Corsa Competizione we will be releasing small updates on a regular basis during the esports season which might not go through the usual announcement process detailing the changes until a later version update where these changes will be listed retrospectively.
  3. If ACC doesn't start with an error or the executable is missing, please add your entire Steam directory to the exceptions in your antivirus software, run a Steam integrity check or reinstall the game altogether. Make sure you add the User/Documents/Assetto Corsa Competizione folder to your antivirus/Defender exceptions and exclude it from any file sharing app (GDrive, OneDrive or Dropbox)! The Corsair iCue software is also known to conflict with Input Device initialization, if the game does not start up and you have such devices, please try disabling the iCue software and try again. [file:unknown] [line: 95] secure crt: invalid error is a sign of antivirus interference, while [Pak chunk signing mismatch on chunk] indicates a corrupted installation that requires game file verification.
  4. When reporting an issue with saved games, please always zip and attach your entire User/Documents/Assetto Corsa Competizione/Savegame folder, along with the logs and the crash folder (when reporting related to a crash).

Welcome to the thread for the Weekly Hotlap #89 - The sound of silence

    The Challenge.

    Car: Lotus 25
    Track: Brands Hatch

    Assetto Corsa_2.jpg
    Assetto Corsa_1.jpg
I just love how pretty much everyone here on the forum despises F1 cars in sim racing, yet they love the vintage single seater stuff. You would think that, being F1 the most popular series of motorsport racing, everyone would go nuts over the Ferrari's and Lotus Exos, but the reality is different from what one would expect. But when it comes to old F1, suddenly people start asking for more cars to be added, and comment on how fun they are are the most standard thing. This just proves that, back in the day,F1 was a completly different breed from what we got today (and by today,i mean from the last 10/15 years).
The Lotus 25 is one of those cars. A spoiled Need for Speed 13-year-old-brat player would never touch this car in any game its featured. If he sees one in real life, he's gonna ask "what the hell is that?".When told this is the F1 world champion of 1963, he's gonna say "Pfff, big deal!". If,out of boredom, he decides to give this car a go in a game, he's gonna quit it very easily. After spinning when exiting the boxes, after locking the brakes and going off track because he braked too hard and too late, after spinning again many times trying to get out of the dirt and after loosing the car in mid-turn, he's gonna rage quit and say something"ooh this car is lame,it won't even brake, this is stupid!"
I know it,because i used to be this kid back in the days of F1 06, while trying to tamesome of the classic cars that game had.Yet,when growing up and knowing more about the history of F1, i started to respect much more the drivers and cars of the old days, and i think that happened to all of us who love the small yet powerfull old single seaters. They feel so pure and natural and serious and scary, all at the same time. They have charisma, which is something F1 lost in the last decade.
The Lotus 25 is one of the poud members of this list.Driven by the legendary Jim Clark (and Chris Amon,Mike Haillwood, among others), raced from 1962 to 1965 and took home 14 victories, the 1963 and 1965 (this one shared with the Lotus 33) World Championship.
195bhp may not seem much, but don't forget, this gentleman only weights 451 kg, so it's speed may surprise you. It's fast and quite challengig to drive. Using well the throttle during turns and being able to do some poweslides will be the key to be fast.If only i know how to do that :p

    Assetto Corsa.jpg

It's impossible to see anything related to Jim Clark without seeing the famous onboard footage of him in the Lotus 33 in Oulton Park and i would love to replicate that footage. But well, this isn't the 33, and we don't have Oulton Park in AC. Old F1 cars need to be driven in old tracks,to get that extra feel and Brands Hatch is the closest historic-non-historic track we have, because it didn't change that much in terms of layout. Also, it's a british track like Oulton, but most importantly, it was the home of the European Grand Prix in 1964.The winners?Jim Clark in the Lotus 25.Pretty fitting, right?

PS: 2 years ago,i was in a really bad place, so i used to spend quite some time listening to music and watching videos on youtube (mainly gameplay videos from racing games) to get away from the sad reality. In the middle of the bad thoughts and sadness, i saw a gameplay video of the Lotus 25 while listening to Simon & Garfunkel's Sound of Silence. Maybe because they are exactly from the same time period, the "combo" got stuck in my head, hence the title :p

    The Rules.

    Mode: Hotlap
    Time of day: Free
    Ambient Temp: 26 Degrees
    Setup: Free
    Controller: Free
    Assists: Factory
    Stability: Free

If it isn't mentioned here then assume the setting is free.

Please make sure you have the ambient temperature set correctly, and that you are in hotlap mode, I really don't like disallowing times!

    The Deadline.
    Sunday July 29th 2018 - 21:00 GMT.

    How to take part!
To enter simply head into the game select Drive > Hotlap and choose the Lotus 25and head to Brands Hatch. Make sure you setup the session using the settings detailed in this thread and hit the track!

You can run as many laps as you like and update your times as often as you like, its simple :) All Platforms are welcome, it is all about having fun and enjoying Assetto Corsa.

To submit a time, pause the game and select 'session' from the menu and screenshot this page or take a photo of your screen and post it in this thread - Note all the information from the screen is required including temperature, mode heading and of course the car being used!

Feel free to post video clips and share information in here as well, but without the session screen your time will not be included (placing the session screen in a video clip is acceptable).

You also need to state the time and your platform in the body of your post, this should be the first thing you do, the image should then be placed below the text. It would also be helpful to mark updated times with Improvement. This makes collating the results much easier. Also,to avoid mistakes on laptimes, please enter them with the format x.xx.xxx. This format makes it easier to work with Excell.
A leader board will be collated from time to time, this will keep everyone up to date on where they currently stand...Unfortunately editing of posts gets locked on this forum so this post will not be updated.

Feel free to use the unofficial leaderboard but remember you still need to include the session screen in this thread to be included in the results.

Good luck and have fun ;)

Guys, one detail: I've changed the limit time to 21h GMT. 22h GMT is already 23h in Portugal, and that starts to be a bit too late in the night for me.So,if you guys dont mind,i've change the deadlock.I'll upload the challenges earlier aswell, dont worry. In fact, this week you will have an extra hour, since it's 20h GMT and it will finish only at 21h GMT :p

Does anyone know what causes a car to quickly pull to the right when gearing down?
    And how to fix it?

Eg, 1st turn on here and when I gear down from 4th to 2nd gear the car instantly pulls to the right.

Very tricky combo but lots of fun again Hugo

I’d need Andy-R skills to get a decent lap time though

It's a good first attempt, mate. 1.5 seconds faster than my best effort so far. You've come back from the break strong.

I drove this car last week for the Chapman Revolution special event. I did about 5 laps, got bored watching the shopping trolley wheels locking up all the time so gave up. I wasn't looking forward to the challenge when I saw it, but I've changed my mind. I'm really enjoying it. The car is fun to drive and it's quite easy to correct mistakes. Now I just need to get faster.

    Thanks mate.
Yeah i was the same but after after a few laps I changed my mind.
It’s definitely a fun thing to drive once you’ve got used to it a bit and does feel good correcting it.
Just hope I can get some more laps in this week.
I’m just far too heavy footed with the accelerator, if it’s not fully down immediately after an apex I feel like I’m loosing time, which is obviously loosing me time
But can I stop doing it.......NO!!

I’m usually around 4-5 seconds off pace on a Monday so I’m sure the aliens will be in the 1:30’s in the very near future.

hope you understand me (sometimes english is a nightmare for me...) - i love your lap times, i love your improvement - dont tell me you are slow! :D:D:D

cheers and enjoy this incredible simulation and the community :) (but DONT tell me that you are slow.... *grrrrr*.......;);););))

I appreciate what your saying mate
but I’m just so eager to get to that next level which is why I get frustrated so much.

Eg, yesterday my first attempts at this combo was around 1:48-1:50.**

Why after after over a year and a half can I not just do a quick lap straight away
Like the true aliens on here can.
It’s probably my own fault because I don’t try other tracks and cars out in between the WHL’s so whenever there’s a new track/combo I need to relearn it first.
Also over the past 2 month I’ve hardly used my wheel due to our daughter arriving which I feel as set me back a bit (she’s worth it though)
And in that time a lot of you have improved so much which is brilliant to see.
So it’s more frustration than anything.

    hi lewis,

yeah, i can understand you. since last february i invested a lot of time in ac. and everytime when i think i am good, i am fast, i am a hero, i am unbeatable *cough*cough* - then comes some guy/girl and is seconds faster. half its frustrating, half its inspiring. now i can imagine how the other cart drivers have been thinking when schumi puts the old tyres from the litterbox(?) on his cart and was faster :p

Engine braking, it will overwhelm the rear if you change down at too high rpm without rev matching. Either change down at lower rpm or rev match to fix that.
