1. Do you need support for Assetto Corsa Competizione? Please use the proper forum below and ALWAYS zip and attach the WHOLE "Logs" folder in your c:\users\*youruser*\AppData\Local\AC2\Saved. The "AppData" folder is hidden by default, check "Hidden items" in your Windows view properties. If you report a crash, ALWAYS zip and attach the WHOLE "Crashes" folder in the same directory. Do not post "I have the same issue" in an existing thread with a game crash, always open your own thread. Do not PM developers and staff members for personal troubleshooting and support.
  2. As part of our continuous maintenance and improvements to Assetto Corsa Competizione we will be releasing small updates on a regular basis during the esports season which might not go through the usual announcement process detailing the changes until a later version update where these changes will be listed retrospectively.
  3. If ACC doesn't start with an error or the executable is missing, please add your entire Steam directory to the exceptions in your antivirus software, run a Steam integrity check or reinstall the game altogether. Make sure you add the User/Documents/Assetto Corsa Competizione folder to your antivirus/Defender exceptions and exclude it from any file sharing app (GDrive, OneDrive or Dropbox)! The Corsair iCue software is also known to conflict with Input Device initialization, if the game does not start up and you have such devices, please try disabling the iCue software and try again. [file:unknown] [line: 95] secure crt: invalid error is a sign of antivirus interference, while [Pak chunk signing mismatch on chunk] indicates a corrupted installation that requires game file verification.
  4. When reporting an issue with saved games, please always zip and attach your entire User/Documents/Assetto Corsa Competizione/Savegame folder, along with the logs and the crash folder (when reporting related to a crash).

Welcome to the thread for the Weekly Hotlap #92 - Ancient Technology

    The Challenge.

    Car: Porsche 908 LH
Track: Monza 1966 - Road Corse

    Assetto Corsa_3.jpg
    car.jpg

One of my all time favourites! I'm still so glad to see it in a game!

The Porsche 908 is one of the most legendary names in the history of motorsport. However, the LH variant doesn't share the glow and glory of his brothers 908/02 and 908/3, those famous little matchboxes that won the Targa Florio and the Nurb 1000km. The most famous moment of the LH?Losing the 1969 24h Le Mans by almost 2 seconds. But, there is much more to this car than just that foto of it a few meters behind the John Wyer's GT40 on Frace.
In September 1968, Porshe presented the LH to the world at Le Mans (the race was held in September due to national strikes in France in July) and the car almost didn't race at all. The reason?Well, Porsche was using rear flaps that, once the driver braked the car, they would rise to help in the braking. They were considered ilegal but after Ferdinand Piech protested against this, the race officials let the 908 into the grid.
The LH was a car built for fast circuits like La Sarthe and Monza, so this car doesn't have a long racing history. The smaller L variant raced with some sucess (victory at Sap in 1969),but the long tailed version LH is mostly famous for that 1969 Le Mans finish. It would also serve as base for developing a certain car that the world would know as Porsche 917...
This boy is not at all easy to handle! Foget about the flaps, they don't make for poor brakes that don't do much in slowing down the car. And it's a very stiff vehicle; not easy to go around turns and twichty tracks. It's an arrow made to go flat out straights, and in that part does it's job very very well.As it should: don't think less of this car because it only has 350 bhp; it only weights 680kg, which makes it a rocket.

    pist.jpg

We kinda have the unspoke rule of "classic cars=classic tracks", right? I decided to not brake that rule (for now, there are 2 more classic cars, perhaps 3, that i want to bring to the WHL in the near future) since Monza is the ideal for this car to be fully enjoyed, well, pack your bags and head to Italy! Why not to use the oval section aswell, since this car raced there? I truly was going to, but i feared for the guys using wheels,i'm told the FFB is insane :p The road version is fun too, less distance to race = more laps and chances to improve!

    The Rules.

    Mode: Hotlap
    Time of day: Free
    Ambient Temp: 26 Degrees
    Setup: Free
    Controller: Free
    Assists: Factory
    Stability: Free

If it isn't mentioned here then assume the setting is free.

Please make sure you have the ambient temperature set correctly, and that you are in hotlap mode, I really don't like disallowing times!

    The Deadline.
    Sunday August 19th 2018 - 21:00 GMT.

    How to take part!
To enter simply head into the game select Drive > Hotlap and choose the Porsche 908 LH and head to Monza 1966 - Road Course. Make sure you setup the session using the settings detailed in this thread and hit the track!

You can run as many laps as you like and update your times as often as you like, its simple :) All Platforms are welcome, it is all about having fun and enjoying Assetto Corsa.

To submit a time, pause the game and select 'session' from the menu and screenshot this page or take a photo of your screen and post it in this thread - Note all the information from the screen is required including temperature, mode heading and of course the car being used!

Feel free to post video clips and share information in here as well, but without the session screen your time will not be included (placing the session screen in a video clip is acceptable).

You also need to state the time and your platform in the body of your post, this should be the first thing you do, the image should then be placed below the text. It would also be helpful to mark updated times with Improvement. This makes collating the results much easier. Also,to avoid mistakes on laptimes, please enter them with the format x.xx.xxx. This format makes it easier to work with Excell.
A leader board will be collated from time to time, this will keep everyone up to date on where they currently stand...Unfortunately editing of posts gets locked on this forum so this post will not be updated.

Feel free to use the unofficial leaderboard but remember you still need to include the session screen in this thread to be included in the results.

Good luck and have fun ;)

Monday morning: A cup of freshly brewed cup of coffee in my right hand open my laptop and go to the AC forum, WHC# topic. Let's see what Hugo has planned for us this week.
It is really a great way to start my new week. What a good piece of reading. Good stimulation to jump behind the wheel and do some laps around classic Monza. Thanks for your effort!

Happy with this time so far. I think it is because of the livery ;)

You can thank pctm for that one. The only 908 livery I made in the pack is the 907 one. Speaking of pctm I hope he doesn't see this challenge as he is the 908 master, I always take the Ford when we race these cars. I'll give this challenge a go at some point, hopefully this evening.

Yep, I noticed your 'skinpack' this morning when I did a search on 908 at RD. All of them are great! But 'chauvinistic' me had to choose that Orange again...

It's a pretty massive pack, quality can vary quite a bit. I'm to blame for that, I go for quantity over quality for a lot of cars in there :D

Definitely Need to learn this track before I’ve any chance of improving.
I’m struggling with The last corner, is it a 2nd gear corner?
Also in setup I can’t change gear ratio,
when I change the “Gear sets”
From 1 to another number it doesn’t save, it just jumps back to 1.

@Lewisxbone : not sure if it is the best way to go but I take last corner in 2nd. Gear ratio default set1. I tried also several others but they made me all slower.

I need to have another crack at this when I get time, the lap after this one I gained .2 in the first two corners which is a huge amount then messed it up at the 2nd Lesmo corner. I left the improved first corner in at the end of the video :D

One good tip for anyone not already doing so is to use the end of the barrier on the right as a turn in marker at Variante Ascari. Another is to move the brake bias rearward until the rears lock first and then move it back forwards by 1 or 2 clicks. That way you aren't constantly locking the front. At least not as much. It will likely be somewhere around 53.5-54.5.

Like Lewis I'm baffled as to why we can't change gear sets. I can make the change in the setup menu, yet it always reverts back to gear set 1. It's frustrating to be redlining in 5th on the approach to Curva Grande.[IMG]

In fact Laughing Gravy the gear ration works when you set it from 1 to 2 , I have the same problem on ps4 pro .
The problem is when you come back in to the pits and go to your setup it will jump back to 1 so you will have to changed again .
Whit this car ( if I'm not wrong ) you can leave the gear ration on 1 .
Hope it helps and if not have a beer or two .

Looking at delta it's pretty much like I have a tenth to gain in every corner except for T1. Too bad it doesn't add up and you have to pull it off in one lap. :D

It took some time to "man up" (messing with the setup might have helped, but who am I to know it), but it's pretty good at 52. At 53 I was locking up into Lesmo 1 and interestingly in Parabolica my rear was coming around. Maybe higher diff preload fixed the sneaky rear, but again clock is my ultimate tuning tool, so yeah... might as well be placebo. :D

As long as it's on redline but doesn't hit the limiter it's ok IMO. I'm actually using first gear ratios. Of course the fact that you simply can't change it due to game bug isn't cool.

    Waiting for pctm's sub 33

It might depend on what sort of brake you are using. With a stiff load cell or potentiometer it might be easier to threshold near the limit with more rear bias. I need the stability of front lock up as I haven't the slightest clue how much brake I'm inputing until I hear a lock up and then (try) and react to it with my soft load cell. I think I was using 54.5 in the end, I tried 53 but with that the rears locked first for me. This car has waaaay too many setup options so I basically just added a little neg camber and turned the power up to 60 and the coast up to 40 and changed to 185mph gear set. I had the wings on 10 but I think that is default. Oh I lowered the car as well, no idea if it made it faster as I did it before I set a benchmark but just incase Max Power magazine turned up and wanted to take some pictures of my slammed ride.

When I find time to have another go I need to try and make my car more stable under braking and/or coming off the brakes into a corner. No idea how to go about it though.

So DFGT brakes > load cell. :D
Yeah mine is slammed too so we're about to fight for that front cover.
I loaded some older setup and it had wings at 7 I think, was slowly taking it down until at 4 I was like "it doesn't change sh..", changed to 0 and can't tell any difference on this track.
Power at max, coast at 25 and preload at 30 here. Preload hint says something about being more stable and resistant to rotate with higher values.
Unfortunately it doesn't say more less stable with lower values, just that it's more nervous. :D
