This is also Round One of the second mini-series “The Family Man,” which will run to the end of March and feature cars that I think would be good for ferrying the wife and kids whilst putting a smile on the face of Dad. March will be a bit less frantic than Feb, but no less challenging!

Not yet used in WHC, the Maserati Quattroporte GTS is a very big car so we need a big circuit!

The Quattroporte GTS is the top of the range, flagship Maserati and easily the biggest, most powerful, fastest saloon they have ever built. Except that it is built by Ferrari. It weighs just under 2 tonnes, without the family and luggage and is powered by a 3.8l turbocharged V8, which gives just over 520bhp from 6500rpm to the red line and a chunky 524lb/ft (710Nm) from 2250rpm.

Having owned a few powerful, big saloons, I know they really munch through the “consumables.” Anytime you go near a track, you have to be feeling financially on top of your game, or accept that you are going to nurse the car around to be gentle on your brakes and tyres. Luckily we don’t have that concern. But still, I thought I would have a quick look at the cost of a track day at Spa in your Quattroporte GTS, if you just went for it.
Conservatively, you would need at least two sets of tyres, (Pirellis x8, approx. £2170 with fitting,) using just under a litre per km, you would need to refill the 90 litre tank every 12 laps, (£120 super-unleaded) and you would need to visit your dealership at the end of the day, if they last that long, to replace worn pads and warped discs (approx. £1800 parts and labour.) So, conservatively, excluding travel, accommodation and cost of the track day, your bill could be around £4,500.00….
Have a smile about that as you mash it though O’Rouge, then stand on the brakes into Les Combes. It makes me laugh aloud!

Spa is an epic circuit, a great place to visit, but not much fun to walk around, I hope you enjoy the drive.

The recommended “Street” tyre pressure is 38psi all round but, trust me, if you were paying, you would be running them at around 28 and driving carefully!

How to take part - Hot lap:
To enter, select Drive > Hotlap, choose the Maserati Quattroporte GTS and Spa circuit. Please setup the session as shown below:
Mode: Hotlap
Time of day: Free
Ambient Temp: 26 Degrees
Setup: Free
Controller: Free
Assists: Free
Stability: Free
To qualify for WHC you must have the ambient temp set to 26 DegC.

Deadline: Sunday 10th March 2019 - 21:00 GMT.

You can run as many laps as you like and update your times as often as you like. It is all about taking part, testing yourself and enjoying Assetto Corsa. All Platforms are welcome.
To submit a time, pause the game and select 'session' from the menu and screenshot this page or take a photo of your screen and post it in this thread - Note all the information from the screen is required including temperature, mode heading and of course the car being used!
Please post video clips and share information in here as well, but without the session screen your time will not be included (placing the session screen in a video clip is acceptable).

From now on: Weekly Hotlap Challenge Championship League
How it works:
1. Enter the Weekly Hotlap Challenge as posted every Sunday evening and you will be automatically entered into the league table.
2. Your ranking in the final standings, posted on Sunday evening, will earn you points, as follows:
Place Points: 1st 14 2nd 13 3rd 12 4th 11 5th 10 6th 9 7th 8 8th 7 9th 6 10th 5
3. Every player taking part in a WHC, but finishing outside the top 10 will get 4 points.
4. Every player who is in the table, (ie has entered a previous WHC) but does not play that week will get three points each week.
5. Players that join WHC after next week's WHC#114 will be awarded 3 points retrospectively for every WHC missed. For example, if you enter WHC for the first time at WHC#124, your name will be added to the table, with 27 points, plus whatever you score in WHC#124.
6. Each week 3 bonus points may be awarded at "the judges' discretion". Criteria for earning the Bonus Points are not fixed but will include:
*An amusing pic or amusing post
* Any "very excellent" contribution to the forum/ group
*Significant effort and improvement (so either lots of times submitted, or a big improvement between the first time submitted and final time)
*Posting a brilliant set-up
*Continuous participation - loyalty to WHC
* Correcting mistakes by the administrator
* Having a disastrous Valentines
* Liking the leaderboard posts
OR anything else the judges decide worthy.

The updated Championship league table will be displayed in a new post in the Console Lounge each week.

7. Specialist Challenges will also feature throughout the season. These will be as monthly mini-series, for example Formula 1 February or Muscle Car Month, or nominated car types, for example the best driver in road cars. These events will be announced in the WHC Thread. The winner of each Specialist Challenge will receive 5 bonus points.

At the end of the year, the WHC before Xmas week, the winners will be declared -
* Championship podium
* Mini series Challenge Winners
* 1st place Contributor (the most Bonus points)
* 1st place Loyal Lapper (who has entered most regularly, most often, if there is a draw, Bonus points count, then Champ points)

Further to my thoughts in the opening post, I've got a nasty feeling and looking at the very kind wear indicators here, that if you were properly going for it on a Spa trackday in this car, you would only get about five or six laps out of a set of road tyres, the bus is so heavy.
In which case, 2 sets of tyres per am/pm session and the estimated cost of wear I mentioned above, could rise to around £8k, just for the day. I think you would also have to change the pads and possibly the discs at lunchtime too, but it's getting too silly too consider! Twenty six laps round Spa could easily cost you over ten grand, whatever the currency!

 

In which case you spend the 8K on a Abarth 595.Dad hoons around in the Abarth while the other half and the kids watch a few films in the Maserati. NO I'M NOT A SEXIST,its just a bloke thing

This thing seems to go where I want it to. Makes a nice change. Unfortunately now the Phantom of La Source is obscuring my view so further improvement is unlikely.

Wow. This thing can go pretty fast considering it's over two tons. Then again, Maserati themselves promote the Quattroporte as "the race-bred luxury sedan." Quite the statement if this simulation is anything to go by! Anyway, this month is going to be tough on me since I'm not wanting to think about a wife, kids, or being a dad. But to those involved with any (and especially all) of those, big salute!

and the new WHC with one month the same cars fits my needs not so much as the diversity before. so i participate but the family cars are not my first love. have fun everyone!
