1. Do you need support for Assetto Corsa Competizione? Please use the proper forum below and ALWAYS zip and attach the WHOLE "Logs" folder in your c:\users\*youruser*\AppData\Local\AC2\Saved. The "AppData" folder is hidden by default, check "Hidden items" in your Windows view properties. If you report a crash, ALWAYS zip and attach the WHOLE "Crashes" folder in the same directory. Do not post "I have the same issue" in an existing thread with a game crash, always open your own thread. Do not PM developers and staff members for personal troubleshooting and support.
  2. As part of our continuous maintenance and improvements to Assetto Corsa Competizione we will be releasing small updates on a regular basis during the esports season which might not go through the usual announcement process detailing the changes until a later version update where these changes will be listed retrospectively.
  3. If ACC doesn't start with an error or the executable is missing, please add your entire Steam directory to the exceptions in your antivirus software, run a Steam integrity check or reinstall the game altogether. Make sure you add the User/Documents/Assetto Corsa Competizione folder to your antivirus/Defender exceptions and exclude it from any file sharing app (GDrive, OneDrive or Dropbox)! The Corsair iCue software is also known to conflict with Input Device initialization, if the game does not start up and you have such devices, please try disabling the iCue software and try again. [file:unknown] [line: 95] secure crt: invalid error is a sign of antivirus interference, while [Pak chunk signing mismatch on chunk] indicates a corrupted installation that requires game file verification.
  4. When reporting an issue with saved games, please always zip and attach your entire User/Documents/Assetto Corsa Competizione/Savegame folder, along with the logs and the crash folder (when reporting related to a crash).

Generic Weekly Hotlap Challenge 167 – How to get your hans stuck.

Discussion in 'Console Lounge' started by Totall Wrytoff, Feb 22, 2020.

  1. Welcome to the thread for the Weekly Hotlap Challenge 167 – “How to get your hans stuck”

This week’s challenge is inspired by WHC’s most longstanding and humourously saucy participant, who in turn was mightily impressed by the way BMW promoted the handling of their new SUV, the X5.

    Challenge
    Hotlap:
    Car: Porsche Cayenne Turbo S
    Track: Zandvoort
    upload_2020-2-22_17-54-19.png
    upload_2020-2-22_17-55-1.png
We’ve never used the Cayenne in WHC and whatever you think about SUVs, the Cayenne, even if pug-ugly, (tee-hee, he’ll not mind,) is a remarkable achievement. When it was launched in 2003, it was as fast as an M3 around a race track.
The the car we have in AC is 2015 update of the 2014 second generation Turbo S Cayenne, which brought major changes to the body and interior over the launch model, as well as upgraded engines. This is odd, AC was released in 2014. The 2014 model “only” had 542hp. The specs we have, 562bhp and a mahoosive 590lb/ft (800Nm) torque, are those of the 2015 car. These very respectable numbers are supplied by a 4.8l twin-turbo V8. That output would be a joy if the car weighed, say 1280kg, the weight of a proper car.
But, the Cayenne weighs more than DOUBLE that!
This week is inverse bonus week, two car weights for the engine of one!
    2,565kg, officially.
So you can bet, in normal conditions, with passengers, you’ve got nearly THREE tonnes. That equates to roughly the weight of a KTM Xbow on each tyre. And we’re going to throw this thing around a narrow, bumpy, up-and-down track? Makes your eyes water!

The idea was to replicate the X5 at the Nordschleife. So, the Cayenne is the obvious choice of erm, car. But many people find the Nords a bit of a struggle, and we’re doing a long circuit this week, so, what’s like the Nordschleife?
    Easy, Zandvoort.
Oh come on! It’s got blind turns, bumpy, off-camber, undulating corners and it’s got its own sort of Karussel in Hugenholzbocht. (Say that @Neilski!!) I should also mention it has some fabulously named corners. I like turn 6, which sounds great, said aloud with a mock Dutch akshent and I think it is an example of a trochaic tetrameter, but wouldn’t argue. Also turns 9, 10, 11 and 13…, because that is fine marketing, especially for turn 9. Wow! That’s a word you just don’t see these days!
    upload_2020-2-22_17-56-11.png
There are many things to note about this week’s challenge.
Firstly and by far the most excitingly, is Sunday 3rd May 2020. An F1 race around Zandvoort! Amazing, on every level. Even Moodyryder might tune in for that one! He’s due to set the combi that weekend, I reckon it picks itself!
Secondly, this combi is ideal for all of those with a pathological hatred for rubber. Absolutely ideal.
Thirdly, although I’ve shown the car in Purpurite Metallic, the interior is gross. Basic White, despite looking like an un-badged ambulance has by far the “nicest” interior. You can’t see the outside either.
Another thing is, although you can disable TCS and stability, there’s still EDL (electronic limited slip diff) which distributes the power around the four corners. It behaves like a nervous Mum with an adventurous toddler. If you get bored of hot lapping there is a second prize for the longest time you can keep the EDL light illuminated. Without really trying (NB full tank of fuel) I managed a continuous light from turn 7 to the straight after Vodafoneboch.
The Cayenne does well around Zandvoort. You have to even grudgingly, admire what Porsche has achieved. It is in fact, outrageous. Bear in mind though, as you approach the first corner for the first time, three tonnes at 140mph has the equivalent energy of 100kg of TNT. With great power comes greater responsibility!

Speaking of which, back to Hans and why we are here, and thanks again to Laughing Gravy for the inspiration!

Fun starts at around 52 secs in.

To be better than most people, you’re aiming for a 2:04 or less.

Street tyres, poor things, like 42psi.

Nice combo, I just could not drive another Highlands lap... :p !
Similar to the Alfa Giulietta you need to have precise throttle control, but you can power it out of the corner nicely.

That's a lot of planning ahead TW. I don't know what this life has planned for me next week let alone at the end of May.

Having said that, one thing I won't be doing is watching F1. If they were driving at their limit then I might give it the time of day.

As it is it's like watching my Mrs trying to increase her Eco percentage in her runabout.

MotoGP is no better. 25 laps of tyre preservation then we'll have a two lap sprint at the end.

    Erm, no.

Rose tinted glasses and the early '90s.

Rainey, Schwantz, Senna, Prost, Mansell, Lawson, Doohan and loud engines and grid girls and cigarettes and Salzburgring and the smell of two stroke in the morning.

And I was only 20. That probably has quite a lot to do with it.

We need to get rid of tyre preservation in F1 and Moto GP.It's getting all too frustrating. While we're at it bring back splash and dash in F1 pleeeease. We all want to see every driver/rider get from A to B as fast as possible:mad:
The next thing we'll be seeing Lewis and Valteri using there new aviation style steering wheels to perform overtaking literallyo_Oo_Oo_O:eek::eek:Joking aside, that's some pretty cool tech:D

    ROFL! I like it :D
I remember a season (must have been some point in the 80s) when Piquet and his BMW team decided to start races light on fuel, sprint away, and then come in for a top-up. That was seen as quite daring at the time, if I'm remembering correctly (which isn't entirely likely, tbh!), and it certainly spiced things up.
These days, the rot has set in sooooo far that I no longer care that I can't watch live F1 for free.

I don't remember that splash and dash i'm going to have to find some more info.We need cars going up in flames and drivers driving off with fuel hoses, all done safely of course:eek:
I was the same last season, although i did watch the replays even though I knew the results. But the excitement is dwindling away.I just hope Ferrari and Redbull can keep up with Mercedes this season.

It was 1982. Gordon Murray came up with the plan at Brabham BMW. They were copying what had been going on in America in CART for years. Murray had had talks with Rick Mears in 1980.

Rick Mears was CART's star turn at the time. He tested with Brabham in 1980 and was close to Piquet at Paul Ricard, where he'd never been before. Then they went to Riverside in California and Mears humiliated the F1 future World Champion.

He decided to stay in the USA with Penske. American open wheel racing really meant something then.

Murray & Brabham introduced pit stops into F1. It became the norm until the FIA banned it.

With entries still to come, the top 3 are all faster than the best time registered prior to this event.
And @365gt and I are only warming up....

I think there's a @59.5 in the digital ether, so here's a Monday night leader board...

    ... with @GoodGame.eXistenZ monstering it,
    @F1415182235 with the afterburners on,
and @DriverModFTW deservedly up there on the podium, with a time 2/10ths faster than the previous WR.

Safe to come out now everyone.:)

    DriverModFTW Hardcore Simmer

Yea..I just looked with that hint. At least I know my place by now haha. I would have to practice every single day for a couple hours for at least a few months consistently before I could realistically compete with the fastest here. That would be the only way to get close to enough hours to make up for my overall lack of sim experience the top guys have. I think I'm around 172 hours on assetto and my 1 year mark for PC comes in may. Being I started on xbox, add that and I'm probably around 200 hours in about a year. Not nearly enough to challenge and compete with the likes of the elite here. One of these days though..that's what i tell myself haha..I just have to keep at it.
