1. Do you need support for Assetto Corsa Competizione? Please use the proper forum below and ALWAYS zip and attach the WHOLE "Logs" folder in your c:\users\*youruser*\AppData\Local\AC2\Saved. The "AppData" folder is hidden by default, check "Hidden items" in your Windows view properties. If you report a crash, ALWAYS zip and attach the WHOLE "Crashes" folder in the same directory. Do not post "I have the same issue" in an existing thread with a game crash, always open your own thread. Do not PM developers and staff members for personal troubleshooting and support.
  2. As part of our continuous maintenance and improvements to Assetto Corsa Competizione we will be releasing small updates on a regular basis during the esports season which might not go through the usual announcement process detailing the changes until a later version update where these changes will be listed retrospectively.
  3. If ACC doesn't start with an error or the executable is missing, please add your entire Steam directory to the exceptions in your antivirus software, run a Steam integrity check or reinstall the game altogether. Make sure you add the User/Documents/Assetto Corsa Competizione folder to your antivirus/Defender exceptions and exclude it from any file sharing app (GDrive, OneDrive or Dropbox)! The Corsair iCue software is also known to conflict with Input Device initialization, if the game does not start up and you have such devices, please try disabling the iCue software and try again. [file:unknown] [line: 95] secure crt: invalid error is a sign of antivirus interference, while [Pak chunk signing mismatch on chunk] indicates a corrupted installation that requires game file verification.
  4. When reporting an issue with saved games, please always zip and attach your entire User/Documents/Assetto Corsa Competizione/Savegame folder, along with the logs and the crash folder (when reporting related to a crash).

Generic WHL 166. Who are you?

Welcome to the thread for the Weekly Hotlap Challenge 1'66 - Who are you?

This week's challenge is inspired by the film called "Ford vs Ferrari" or "Le Mans '66"

    Challenge
    Hotlap:
    Cars : Ford GT40 & Ferrari 330 P4
    Track: Highlands Long

I like films. The cinematic experience on a big screen is a great way to be told a story.

Motorsport and movies have gone hand in hand for decades. Paul Newman was a top Hollywood star but also a very accomplished racer. Shooting for the film "Winning" he caught the racing bug. He placed second overall at Le Mans in 1979, winning in class. He also won in class at Daytona in 1995. At the age of 70. :)

There have been other famous films too but the latest one came out last year, just before Christmas. It's named Ford vs Ferrari in North America & Le Mans '66 over here.

It could easily have been called "Miles & Shelby". Ultimately that's what it's really about.

I guess most people here will have seen it. Lots of folks who are into cars & racing history will know what happened even if they haven't seen the film.

I enjoyed it immensely and even my Mrs. was entranced at the end, despite having been dragged there with low expectations initially.

Anyway, if you've seen it, you'll have your own opinion. If you haven't, it's well worth watching.

    --

    On to this week's challenge.

We don't have Le Mans on console. For these cars I prefer a road course with a very long straight. It is an easy decision.

This gives a dilemma the WHL has never faced before. This challenge has already been (half) done. Hugo posted the GT40 on Highlands Long way back at #42. I decided to go with it though. These cars thrive here. We also have a ready made leaderboard of our own, never mind RSR.

In this case, @LeiF and I completely disagree. I find this car is turn... and catch it! Hang on for dear life at every corner.
Finally made it round, nerves are shredded!:D
Set up is stock apart from engine limiter, tyre pressures and shorter transmission.

Was trying to get exactly the same time for both cars. Ahem.
This car is much easier, got this on first "hot lap" with totally stock set up apart from pressures.

The sound reminds me of one the best eleven minutes of film ever made, "C'etait un Rendezvous"

I'm sure, being car inclined, everyone here has seen it, but it's worth a refresh, and it features cobbles::cool:

Count the gears and guess the revs for an idea of speed... it brings the beautifully coiffed hairs up on the back of my neck!:D

I remember this. I always thought the sound didn't match the visual.

    It looks slow.

Ponderously slow. Watch it with the sound off. It's Grandma driving to mass.

Yep I had almost exactly those speeds too, the Ferrari makes up for it in the corners I think, feels like you can throw it in a bit better whereas you have to be more measured in the Ford.

I would say on a track without a big straight the ford would struggle to keep up but here I think the GT40 has a slight edge.

Guys, regarding the film C'était un Rendezvous @moodyryder is correct. My father was french from Paris and grew up in those areas shown in the film.He watched it and straight away knew it was fake.He knew the streets like the back of his hand.He worked out some timings from various start and end points and there is absolutely no way that that Ferrari was being driven that hard, the maths did not add up.If I remember rightly,i'll need to look at again but i'm sure my father pointed out the reflection of blue lights in a shop window as the "Ferrari" goes by.
When I first watched it I was blown away until I watched it a second time and then rang my father who was watching at the same time and as they say rest is history.

So, I forgot to screenshot my 3.55.910. Either way, not very good laps to my standards. Still not sure about the tune ive got on it right now. I definitely am leaving time on the table at multiple corners not rotating enough to get back to throttle quicker. Also need to work on not letting the car get too loose on entry and over rotating (backing it in with too much rotation, catching and then going). Its definitely been fun relearning this track though. Very tricky to go really fast.

Think I will skip this week. I watched the film 2 weeks ago and tried the gt40 round norforshlife, even though I don’t know the circuit. It really is undrivable for me. After half hour I can’t get a clean lap here it’s just tooo long for me and the vintage tyres are not helping:(
    Good luck everyone!
