Car Classes

Since improvements of Ai, I've been well.... using it.

So the car classes in AC is a bit useless as we seem to have street & race cars. Then tags but imo its messy.

Has anyone managed to successfully organise all their cars in CM to competitive classes? Once this is set up its possible to just select random/same class era & get some good grids instantly.
I attempted this & created individual classes for most of the faster road car & race cars but it wasn't perfect but i also created my own categories for each class, it wasn't perfect but it was much easier to manage than the vanilla. Unfortunately they all reset when i did a verification in steam.
So i start again, just wondering if anybody has a good method for this? Choosing street car categories was not so easy but i think race cars is generally straight forward apart from some older cars.

 

Ignoring some of the more obvious combos here is a list of some cars that are fairly similar pace and era off the top of my head, these go back across quite a few builds so some might not work quite so well in the current build.

Older cars
Alfa Romeo GTA > Porsche 718 RS60
Ford GT40 > Porsche 908LH

Newer Cars
Mazda MX5 NA > Toyota AE86 (AE86 best with restriction)
Abarth 500 > Alfa Romeo Mito
Alfa Romeo Giulietta QV > Audi S1 > Mazda MX5 ND > Toyota GT86 (GT86 and MX5 best served with minor restriction)
BMW M3 E30 S1 > Toyota AE86 Tuned (AE86 best with restriction)
BMW Z4 (S1?) > Lotus Elise > Nissan 370Z
Alfa Romeo 4C > Lotus Exige 240R > BMW M3 E92 > Ford Mustang (Mustang is a little off pace now)
Lotus Evora GTE/Evora S S3 (not sure which in current build) > BMW M4 Akrapovic > Porsche Cayman (or maybe it was Boxster)
Lotus Exige 240R S3 > BMW 1M S3
Chevrolet Corvette Stingray > Porsche 911 Carrera S
Audi R8 V10 Plus > Mercedes SLS

Thanks that a big help, i've gone about just setting grids up & saving those instead of breaking up the car classes as it means i'm less likely to lose them again although ocd part of me wants to set them all up properly. Ive added some of the better mods to pad things out a bit. I've spent the last few days racing these combos & had some fantastic races & discovered some new favorite cars.

 

Glad some of the suggestions were useful. 1 combo in that list that doesnt look too close anymore is the Lotus 240R S3 and BMW 1M S3.

Hopefully some more people can chime in with similar era car combos that work well. A track specific combo that should work in terms of lap time Lotus 25 and Maserati 250F 12C at Monza 1966 Full Course. The Maserati's will be much faster on the straights but could be fun.

The Evora GTE Carbon or Exige V6 Cup would probably match the Corvette and 911 Carrera fairly well.

If you like mod cars then the Lola T70 Chevy can race with the Porsche 917K, the Porsche is slightly faster over a lap.
