1. Do you need support for Assetto Corsa Competizione? Please use the proper forum below and ALWAYS zip and attach the WHOLE "Logs" folder in your c:\users\*youruser*\AppData\Local\AC2\Saved. The "AppData" folder is hidden by default, check "Hidden items" in your Windows view properties. If you report a crash, ALWAYS zip and attach the WHOLE "Crashes" folder in the same directory. Do not post "I have the same issue" in an existing thread with a game crash, always open your own thread. Do not PM developers and staff members for personal troubleshooting and support.
  2. As part of our continuous maintenance and improvements to Assetto Corsa Competizione we will be releasing small updates on a regular basis during the esports season which might not go through the usual announcement process detailing the changes until a later version update where these changes will be listed retrospectively.
  3. If ACC doesn't start with an error or the executable is missing, please add your entire Steam directory to the exceptions in your antivirus software, run a Steam integrity check or reinstall the game altogether. Make sure you add the User/Documents/Assetto Corsa Competizione folder to your antivirus/Defender exceptions and exclude it from any file sharing app (GDrive, OneDrive or Dropbox)! The Corsair iCue software is also known to conflict with Input Device initialization, if the game does not start up and you have such devices, please try disabling the iCue software and try again. [file:unknown] [line: 95] secure crt: invalid error is a sign of antivirus interference, while [Pak chunk signing mismatch on chunk] indicates a corrupted installation that requires game file verification.
  4. When reporting an issue with saved games, please always zip and attach your entire User/Documents/Assetto Corsa Competizione/Savegame folder, along with the logs and the crash folder (when reporting related to a crash).

Fast damper values

Discussion in 'Suggestions' started by FezzantPlucka, Oct 1, 2017.

  1. We have the slow damper values in the Car Engineer app, which are very useful, and thanks for letting us see them, but how about the fast damper values? Is it possible these could be added also?

I for one find it very useful to see that info when tuning my dampers.

    Thanks. :)

I don't think you can calculate a damping ratio or frequency from fast damping, since it's offset to start with by slow damping (so it's no longer directly proportional to speed, and the ratio would change at every speed of the damper)

Doesn't this design cause issues with fast damping? If a damper unit doesn't respond to pressure-spike and it always has to reach the threshold value in slow damping force before "blow-off", then it's way slower to reach the threshold point? Depending on initial slow damping values as well.

I've never seen any data to suggest real dampers work differently from that. So it must be ok.

If that's the case, force (=pressure) inside the damper would be linearly related to speed of the piston. In real world however, we have moving masses that won't reach infinite acceleration values, so it can't be linearly related..

For example where I see the issue: Hit a bicycle damper unit with a 10 kg sledgehammer (heavy input for the damper of it's size, similar to hitting sausage kerb or something at high speed) and see from the data the piston speed accelerated "through" the slow speed valving until fast speed threshold was achieved? Or will the pressure inside the damper rise sky high and the high speed valving opens pretty much instantly before much movement at all (not really affected by the slow speed damping values)?

Damper response curves look like this. There's no situation where moving a damper faster makes it respond with less force.

  8. TBH when I spoke about "tuning" the dampers I meant that in a somewhat loose way. I know that decompression values are always supposed to be higher than compression values so seeing the actual values on screen would help me to "visualise" how I've got the dampers set up. I tend to start out with rebound about 1.5x that of bump and go from there.

I don't think this would be a hard thing for Kunos to add to the Car Engineer app and would be useful (to me anyway). :)

The damper blow off is used on heavily damped cars (aero cars) so that hitting a kerb or similar high energy input, lets the suspension move (springs to compress) instead of launching the car to the orbit. I know this is not possible in AC (of yet) and even some official cars have weird damping rates (dunno if it's because of this).

Hmm... I think that'd only be possible with negative fast bump in AC.
