1. Do you need support for Assetto Corsa Competizione? Please use the proper forum below and ALWAYS zip and attach the WHOLE "Logs" folder in your c:\users\*youruser*\AppData\Local\AC2\Saved. The "AppData" folder is hidden by default, check "Hidden items" in your Windows view properties. If you report a crash, ALWAYS zip and attach the WHOLE "Crashes" folder in the same directory. Do not post "I have the same issue" in an existing thread with a game crash, always open your own thread. Do not PM developers and staff members for personal troubleshooting and support.
  2. As part of our continuous maintenance and improvements to Assetto Corsa Competizione we will be releasing small updates on a regular basis during the esports season which might not go through the usual announcement process detailing the changes until a later version update where these changes will be listed retrospectively.
  3. If ACC doesn't start with an error or the executable is missing, please add your entire Steam directory to the exceptions in your antivirus software, run a Steam integrity check or reinstall the game altogether. Make sure you add the User/Documents/Assetto Corsa Competizione folder to your antivirus/Defender exceptions and exclude it from any file sharing app (GDrive, OneDrive or Dropbox)! The Corsair iCue software is also known to conflict with Input Device initialization, if the game does not start up and you have such devices, please try disabling the iCue software and try again. [file:unknown] [line: 95] secure crt: invalid error is a sign of antivirus interference, while [Pak chunk signing mismatch on chunk] indicates a corrupted installation that requires game file verification.
  4. When reporting an issue with saved games, please always zip and attach your entire User/Documents/Assetto Corsa Competizione/Savegame folder, along with the logs and the crash folder (when reporting related to a crash).

Is FOV only half the equation?

50 deg on a 40” 60cm away is good for me.

Probably as you say just too much change at once for the brain! If the fov really is calculated correctly and the corners didn’t look right then that is because you have now learned a distorted version of the tracks.

When I first went from arcade style fov to correct fov about 4 years ago I had to re learn EVERY corner. But very quickly I was faster, more consistent and hitting apexes like a beast. (Not in GT3 tho I am still rubbish in these :D )

Baby steps is actually how I got from 54 to my current 42, which I have to say is my happy place now.
Reduce it by 2 degrees and do a couple of races like that and keep going until you find the sweet spot.

I tried going from 55 to 50. It was ok.. I tried 35 again, nah not ready yet.. :)

I have a similar setting as yours in terms of tv size and distance and I remember my recommended FOV was also something like 32.
There's no way I'll get there, I just lose too much visibility and it feels and looks totally weird but I'm liking 42 much better than the +50 I used for years.

Once I found out about this whole FOV thing, I changed from some huge default value to the correct one and it was love at first sight. Had a pretty small screen back then so I used hood cam to not only see cockpit.

Then with a reasonably large screen (34" 21:9) I started using cockpit view with the cam shifted forwards...dashcam style.

Now with TrackHat, I ditched the dashcam style and use the correct camera position. If something obstructs my view, I just move my head and look past. It's perfect.

    My FOV is 28.

Setting up the right FOV is the most important thing on a pancake view.

    Full stop.

    Ignore it, and be slow.

Adjust it and fight your perception...

    Good luck!

    Have fun.

I fought it at first as well, but now I'm a total advocate of getting this right. I'm at 30 degrees on a 28" monitor. Felt wrong at first, but now it's so right.

Just to add to the conversation, when setting FOV on single screen, one idea that might help is to forget about the in game car cockpit, your cockpit is now your wheel and probably some android tablet for a dash and the screen is your windscreen. With proper FOV you will not see much of the inside of the cars, so you might as well forget it and enjoy a realistic view taking full advantage of the total screen/windscreen to see outside in front of you.
Now that I have VR, it is the only way I can tolerate playing in 2d, if really have to.

After a lot of practice laps I have now gone down to the correct 36 deg FOV. Once the brain excepted it and the hands & feet made the necessary adjustments it really starts to make sense. In the beginning I lost a lot of lap time and missed a few corners every lap however I have managed to claw most of the lap time back and cut out the mistakes. I might be a touch slower for now however I really like it and will stick with it as I know it will be the right decision in the long run..

    converted...

A question, would you still use 36 deg FOV, on say a 23" single screen ?

I started around 36, then gradually moved back up to 50 deg. on ACC, and for me, works better.

Prob not... I just swapped over to my 42" so it's helped the cause..

    I was on 80 on my 27" :eek::D

AC uses horizontal, 52deg is accurate here

I also feel like adjusting seat is also right because getting our position inb the rig isnt the same as the car we drive in the sim, setting up position to have the wheel allined gives huge immersive benefit, but still FOV has to be kept correct

Don’t be confused. It is vFOV in both AC and ACC.
Glad to hear it is working out for you :)
