1. Do you need support for Assetto Corsa Competizione? Please use the proper forum below and ALWAYS zip and attach the WHOLE "Logs" folder in your c:\users\*youruser*\AppData\Local\AC2\Saved. The "AppData" folder is hidden by default, check "Hidden items" in your Windows view properties. If you report a crash, ALWAYS zip and attach the WHOLE "Crashes" folder in the same directory. Do not post "I have the same issue" in an existing thread with a game crash, always open your own thread. Do not PM developers and staff members for personal troubleshooting and support.
  2. As part of our continuous maintenance and improvements to Assetto Corsa Competizione we will be releasing small updates on a regular basis during the esports season which might not go through the usual announcement process detailing the changes until a later version update where these changes will be listed retrospectively.
  3. If ACC doesn't start with an error or the executable is missing, please add your entire Steam directory to the exceptions in your antivirus software, run a Steam integrity check or reinstall the game altogether. Make sure you add the User/Documents/Assetto Corsa Competizione folder to your antivirus/Defender exceptions and exclude it from any file sharing app (GDrive, OneDrive or Dropbox)! The Corsair iCue software is also known to conflict with Input Device initialization, if the game does not start up and you have such devices, please try disabling the iCue software and try again. [file:unknown] [line: 95] secure crt: invalid error is a sign of antivirus interference, while [Pak chunk signing mismatch on chunk] indicates a corrupted installation that requires game file verification.
  4. When reporting an issue with saved games, please always zip and attach your entire User/Documents/Assetto Corsa Competizione/Savegame folder, along with the logs and the crash folder (when reporting related to a crash).

Controller Recommendations - Alternatives to XBox 360 Gamepad

Discussion in 'Chit Chat Room' started by Flying Penguin, May 30, 2014.

  1. Hi All,

I'm currently using my trusty old XBox 360 controller via the MS USB Gaming Receiver and it's working pretty well, however it's been going since 2007 and is getting a bit dog eared now and I suspect that it's nearing the end of it's working life.

So I'm looking for some alternatives and I'd appreciate any suggestions. Currently my biggest gripe is the inability to use the triggers as a separate axis, but otherwise I quite like the style. A full wheel/pedals set up is not practical for space and portability reasons, so current options seem to be:
    • Razer Sabertooth - Good quality but a biblically long cable will get in the way as I use a laptop
    • Logitech F710 - Not sure about the PS3 style or the quality
    • Thrustmaster GPX /GP XID - A bit confused about the versions!
    • Another XBox 360 controller
    Any recommendations appreciated....

    Thanks,

    Jamie

Don't touch the razer sabre tooth. They are badly made...the right analogue stick works for a couple of hours then starts goin crazy...had 8 of these..everyone has bust within a week..stick to official m$ joypad...reliable

As you might guess from my Avatar ( :p ), I recommend the good old Namco neGcon.
If not using a racing-wheel, this is the only alternative imho! The main reason is the steering, which actually IS steering and not fumbling around with small Sticks.
From an ergonomic point of view the neGcon isn't that good, the X360-controller fits much better in hand, but I got used to it.
It works perfectly in e.g. AC and Race 07 but needs some workarounds in other racing games as GRID 2, NfS-series (means using the X360 controller emulator).
But the neGcon is only designed for racing-games and is hard to get nowadays.

Another guess (actually it's a fail!) is the RaceRoom Driving Controller.
Fail because it doesn't have analogue triggers for gas and brake! I mean, how can someone create a race-controller without these? o_O

Personally I would get another Xbox 360 controller as personally I've never felt a more comfortable controller (not even the Xbox One). You could also use the PS3 controller using software called MotionInJoy (although I prefer the 360) and I believe the PS4 controller is compatible with the PC and I've tried that in a shop and thought it was really good.

  7. McNappa - That's worrying, I had only seen decent reviews of the Razer

Ishigami - That sounds like a sensible plan in the absence of obvious alternatives

T'PAU - Perhaps a bit left field for me? ;) If I see one going cheap I might pick one up for schmitz and giggles :)

    Thanks,

    Jamie

  8. Have you managed to get the trigger axis to work separately? That's the single biggest reason I thought it worth looking for alternatives...

    Thanks,

    Jamie

Yeah the trigger axis have always worked independently. Do you mean you have to have two brakes or two accelerators?

  10. No, I mean that Windows and AC recognise them as one (Z) axis, the impact being that you have to fully release the brake before it will recognise acceleration and vice versa. It's an official 360 controller.

Now you shouldn't generally be trying to accelerate with the brakes on, but it's the principle of the thing :)

Oh I see. I think I've had that problem before but I don't think it was with the Xbox controller. Only thing I can recommend is reinstalling the driver, trying someone else's controller or trying it on someone else's computer to see what's at fault. Does it happen on all games or just AC?

  12. It's a known limitation of the implementation of the Windows XBox 360 controller drivers, there are workarounds for the wired ones (e.g. XBCD), but there is no known workaround (afaik) for the wireless variant.

Well mine is wireless so I guess I shall have to thank magic for that

I use my ps3 controller for some games, works very well

  15. Hmmm... I feel a little silly. Just fired up AC and held both triggers down, only to see the expected behaviour of it straining against the brakes. It's definitely reading both, though that's the first game it's ever worked properly on. Time to go away and think again.... They definitely share an axis but it seems to read them correctly.

I have wired and wireless xbox360 gamepads and both are same good.
But you should wait for xbone controller if u want to get gamepads, this one is way better in every aspect than 360 gamepad IMO.

    or you consider a wheel^^

  18. Hi Shaddix,

I think that's got to be my best option, based on responses here.

Unfortunately a wheel would be too impractical for various reasons, so isn't on the cards for the next few years at least.

    Thanks,

    Jamie

I'm hoping they will do a Xbox1 wired for PC, .. that would be my choice, but I never heard if they plan to do it ,
i'm bit skeptical about wireless and also you need some silly USB key most likely, ...

Yes you will almost certainly have to use a USB adapter, and Microsoft will squeeze every penny for that, but it's not the end of the world. What are you skeptical about?
