Lemans prototype (lmp) - are they coming?

Are there any plans by Kunos Simulazione to introduce modern prototypes (LMP2 and LMP1) into the game?

I already know about the Toyota, but could it have been canceled due to complications with the accurate implementation of the car's hybrid system (same goes for Audi R-18 E-tron)?

Are manufacturers like Oreca and Onroak out of reach?

 

I'd only be interested in them if we can have something close to accurate performance and energy recovery systems modelling.

 

From what I remember a couple of weeks ago URD pretty much mentioned that they modeled the TS040 for Kunos. They were already doing the paid prototype mod and have done multiple cars for Kunos already so it's a pretty obvious choice. I'm sure Kunos could add a way to reset the ERS system at the beginning of the lap if they wanted to, but the R18 etron from URD just uses a massive battery pack right now instead which really can't deplete. I would guess this is really the main thing holding them up. There's also the major issues with getting a lot of accurate data which teams aren't really going to want to give out on a fairly recent car.

 

Not sure, if I would recommend URD. If you would download URD mod, you would see... it is not AWD, there is no recovery system. And also real LMP1 driver tried URD mod and said it is sux... There is LMP1 mod - convert from another game - it is so so... ISo URD mod is just something with rear wheel drive. So, I hope Kunos would do LMP1 themselves.

 

Probably doing only the 3d model, and the rest will be created by Kunos.

 

Rene Rast also has also said PCARS is the best sim there is. And as Quf said, URD only does the model, Kunos does the physics.

 

Good news, because URD doing very good 3d models, but terrible physics.

 

Even though the driver said the URD mod sux, he probably didn't recall that it was a HUGE WIP. IF the driver said that, he's pretty short-sighted. Plus...minus the currently inaccurate physics, it is a highly well done mod, esp. considering the small team working on it.

"Accuracy" is such a relative word: some use it to define why they prefer one simulator over another; others use it to prove how one car in a game was modeled better than another and so forth. But the problem is...what exactly is accuracy? Let's bring a little psychology into the argument for a moment:
Is accuracy just a term? Is it a system? Is it how something runs? Or how something feels? The truth is that we all define accuracy differently, based on our own set of criteria which, if met, constitutes an accuracy. For example: there is a Wiki about Assetto Corsa which contains a foolish critique that basically states how real drivers stay away from Assetto Corsa because it's tyre model is inaccurate compared to the other game. They site various reasons such as telemetry harvesting, data, the math codes, etc. The article's argument can be clarified in the following way: AC is inaccurate based on so-called inferior code. However, this is a relative argument when one considers that better/more complete math only satisfies mathematical theory, and cannot make a computer simulation drive better. We all know that driving though including math depends largely on the felt experience--something math explains but does not make. In other words:

The most mathematically complete sim in the world could theoretically be the worst feeling one.

Other such arguments have their counter-arguments and prove that the notion of "accuracy" depends on your vantage point and personal criteria.

And regarding the URD mods, the same logic holds true. While we have no experience driving such vehicles as LMP1, LMP2, Formula 3, let alone even "tamer" cars like GT3, GT4, etc., we do drive. The experience of road driving and possible track experience with road cars does help to inform, if only on an incomplete level. By this criteria, I think the URD mods worth experiencing, even if mathematically they are incorrect. So for the future, if we don't get an official LMP1 car from Kunos, we still have URD, who understand the relativity of "accuracy" and have decided to provide us with a pretty cool model.

 

Some things very easy to understand... You dont have to be a PRO to open data file and take a look whats there. Is it just RWD car without any hybrid system.

 

Right, I answered that issue: some sims are mathematically more detailed, as are some mods, either because that's the way they are, or (as in the case of URD) the model is either incomplete and there isn't the access to certain data.

 

I would love to see more LMP1 and LMP2, I've driven few of them (which sadly couldn't be released) and they felt really quite nice. Planted like GT3 but so much more faster
