Very well put. I think the biggest part of being a conscientious sim racer is first being aware of this fact, and doing the best you can to minimize it. The graphics end I agree is a lesser factor unless we're talking about not getting a solid 60 FPS minimum...although AC has gotten incredibly smooth below 60 FPS than it used to be. The main thing I think is 3 screens vs 1. No over-the-shoulder view ability severely limits the graphics of the game because one simply cannot drive as one does in a real car. Here, quality is less a concern as how I personally allow the graphics to be displayed. Money notwithstanding, 3 screens are my goal eventually...just is no other way to perceive speed and drive competitively.

Hardware is a huge factor, and while I never underestimated the coding in AC, I felt at one point I was experiencing the most it had to offer...trouble was, I didn't realize I was experiencing the most it had to offer through an inferior FFB delivery system. Upgrade the system, AC went from being good to great. I am certain this happens in a great many spheres as regards rig, sound, devices, hardware, etc. Though I'm not a fan of DD wheels, I cannot imagine how much more accurate the experience would be on the forces end...bumps simply would transmit as they do in real life.

My biggest gripe about the motion rigs I've been in were the g-forces were not quick or intense enough, and their steering systems were far too light. Naturally, they do this because the general uninitiated public isn't prepared for the kinds of forces cars deliver at speed on these tracks...but to someone who is prepared for such forces, it makes it very difficult to enjoy the simulation at an event because it's just so damn unrealistic. I'll post pictures as I can..it was an SRT Viper set-up, entire car motion rig, 3 46" screens...pretty sweet setup. But the forces...so unrealistic, made judging Monza impossible because the g-forces were not there and the steering was impossibly light, one could not feel tyre load at all.

 

Getting upset about missing hardware, and misplaced holes...

I have a bunch of Ikea shelves from the '70s that are all solid wood... really nice, simple design. Fantastic stuff. Whoever invented pressboard did nobody any favors.

You should consider VR then. Even driving triples for me feels disconnected when I try it.
It's not for everyone, it takes time getting comfortable with.
