Why is there no crowd, no audience or ppl watching the race? Lack of interest?

 

british GT isn't as popular here in Belgium compared to the WEC, F1 & Spa 24 hours. Also a lot less commercials/PR about it.

 

I used to attend British GT in the mid 2000's and it was frankly one man and his dog which could be considered "a crowd". Really desperate spectator figures.

I gather its somewhat better supported now, but I haven't been since 2007.

So instead of imagining to be on a Blancpain-event I will just pretend to be on a British GT-event. Keepin it real.

 

What on Earth is that whining noise in the first video clip?

 

Gearbox. It's a dog box which has straight cut teeth and they make much more noise. The good part of this is that this kind of gears are much stronger and can handle a lot of abuse.

 

The bad part is that it is likely to drive me crazy.

 

If you have a car with manual gearbox, imagine driving it in reverse at 100 km/h. It will whine too. The reverse gear in normal cars also has straight cut teeth, not helical like the forward gears.

 

you can hear the same thing in the Z4 GT3 if I'm not mistaken and also in other cars (touring cars etc, ...)

If that's the case, then it may not sound as bad in AC as I fear. I can certainly live with the Z4 GT3 sound. Maybe it just sounds exaggerated in that clip because he is idling his way down the pit lane.

 

All cars with a dogbox (straight cut gears) have this whining sound. And almost any racecar has a dogbox cause it can handle much more power.

 

Yupp. Exactly why I never drove the Z4, till I installed a sound-mod that reduced it and got a louder enginesound.

I know, but most of the time they are combined (dogbox with straight cut).

You just don't see that many dogboxes in street cars where comfort and ease of gear chancing is necessary. Also the maintance on synchromesh boxes is a lot cheaper than on a dogbox which is good for the customer. But a synchro can't handle as much power as a dogbox.

And when a dog box get applied it's mostly the case in cars with a lot of power and where comfort of ease of use isn't that big of a deal for daily driving. Also chancing gears in a dogbox must be done much faster and in a more positive way then when using a synchromesh box where you have all the time of the world to put it back into the gear you want.

 

most anoying (in a good way ) is probably M3 GTR wait for longer straight (0:43)
