1. Do you need support for Assetto Corsa Competizione? Please use the proper forum below and ALWAYS zip and attach the WHOLE "Logs" folder in your c:\users\*youruser*\AppData\Local\AC2\Saved. The "AppData" folder is hidden by default, check "Hidden items" in your Windows view properties. If you report a crash, ALWAYS zip and attach the WHOLE "Crashes" folder in the same directory. Do not post "I have the same issue" in an existing thread with a game crash, always open your own thread. Do not PM developers and staff members for personal troubleshooting and support.
  2. As part of our continuous maintenance and improvements to Assetto Corsa Competizione we will be releasing small updates on a regular basis during the esports season which might not go through the usual announcement process detailing the changes until a later version update where these changes will be listed retrospectively.
  3. If ACC doesn't start with an error or the executable is missing, please add your entire Steam directory to the exceptions in your antivirus software, run a Steam integrity check or reinstall the game altogether. Make sure you add the User/Documents/Assetto Corsa Competizione folder to your antivirus/Defender exceptions and exclude it from any file sharing app (GDrive, OneDrive or Dropbox)! The Corsair iCue software is also known to conflict with Input Device initialization, if the game does not start up and you have such devices, please try disabling the iCue software and try again. [file:unknown] [line: 95] secure crt: invalid error is a sign of antivirus interference, while [Pak chunk signing mismatch on chunk] indicates a corrupted installation that requires game file verification.
  4. When reporting an issue with saved games, please always zip and attach your entire User/Documents/Assetto Corsa Competizione/Savegame folder, along with the logs and the crash folder (when reporting related to a crash).

Total beginner to racing games/sims

@ Seox, Since you are new to SIM racing, I would recommend to you to pay close attention to the FOV you are using. Sit as close as you can to your screen and do not try to see too much, assuming you are using a single screen and cockpit view..
Most SIM racer, even experience one, are driving looking ahead through binoculars they would held the wrong way.
Coming from many years of console, although I have been SIM driving cockpit view with a wheel for a long time, I was alien to the advantages of a proper FOV as a ( the ) major factor for immersion and proper driving.
There is a lot of resources on the different forum on that subject, it will be time well spent to study the subject for any beginner, or seasoned but ignorant, SIM driver/racer.
Once you have it right, you will see that the perspective are respected, braking points are not that hard to figure, the turn radius make sense, following AI closely is easy and racing them is a lot of fun.
Once you have it right, you will realize that a lot of comments are made by people that do not how to use the proper FOV and blame the SIM, when they should get a better grip on the perspective they are using
Have fun, it is a beautiful adventure. :)

The nice thing about rFactor 2 was the fact it had the Skip barber car and track so you could watch skips instructional video and then practice in the same car track. I was able to learn a lot by watching that video and then going into the skip barber car.
It's a pity there isn't an open wheeler like that skip barber car or the F.1600 in NetKar pro. They're good learning tools, not so much good racing cars but if you can master those type of cars the rest can come easy enough.

I have no advice that has not been mentioned already. Had to say how warm and fuzzy this thread made me feel though. :D

P.S Laps. Then some more laps. Maybe a some more laps. Then maybe you are ready to do a few more laps, once you have done that do a few more laps. Now you are ready! Do more laps;)

Very interesting and informative video! Thanks for posting.
I was like "yeah, I know that, I know... I know... oh wait, those two knowledge suddenly fit together and discovering a new one" :)
Finally I'm better understanding the car setup and it's influence regarding oversteering and understeering and weight transfer.
And cannot stop reading the Speed Secrets book written by a great person who covered all the knowledge from another amazing persons ;o)
And can't wait for another book :) But for now I am at the beginning.
    Maybe a tip from a mid-skilled simracer:
I always tried to brake hard and late as possible all the way to the apxex to pass the turn "faster"
Later I found the magic of the car balance and started to modulate brake pressure a bit before the "turn in" point and release brake slowly to the aphex to get maximum possible "track out" speed. Enabling the "ghost car" can be useful too. For example iRacing have a great indicator of sector times and a bar showing constantly if you are currently slower or faster. Something like that could be used in AC later too I hope.
Next, downshifting is also very important. First start braking, wait for revs go low, then start downshifting and for the beginning turn on the auto-blip feature under summary / realism (assists).
Again from my personal knowledge I found that with better (proper) throttle blips I'm able to brake much more efficient. At the start I very underestimated the braking factor and many years later I found where I lost most of the seconds at the end :) Oh and load-cell brake can do a lot as well. There are some mods for G25/27 pedals, you should go at least for this if nothing else: http://www.gtplanet.net/forum/threads/g25-g27-nixim-brake-mod-maximized.168631/

  5. I can give you one advice. In every turn take an object (a tree, a fence or something) and remember always at X distance from it brake. That's how you can remember the braking points.
