Why no waiting in gear at start line ?

Hi guys,
Loving the game apart from the usual, much complained about issues which I won't go into here as they seem to be pretty much covered elsewhere.
Anyways, the issue I'm having is when you're on the starting grid, revving your engine in readiness for the lights to go out, I can't select a gear until they go out ?
I'm on PS4 with the T300 wheel and TH8A shifter and T3PA pedals, and no matter what car, whether it's sequential or manual H pattern, I can't seem to get away cleanly. In pCARS you can hold the clutch, engage first gear (manual or sequential) and either feather it to control wheelspin, or just dump it and hold on ! The way it's implemented on AC is poor and very difficult to get a good, clean start. I must add the only driver aid I'm using is factory ABS, everything else is firmly OFF as I want the truest experience, which sadly isn't happening due to this clutch/gear engagement issue.
I'm hoping it's something that can be patched out along with the other stuff as I don't want to go the route of using auto clutch as this will ruin the realism of what's shaping up to be a great racing sim.

 

This has been patched in the PC version with the introduction of false starts fairly recently (it wasn't a bug, just a design decision). The console version is a bit behind the PC version because of the verification process through Microsoft/Sony (also the retail version was signed off a while ago) so I'd guess that functionality will come to console in the future as well.
